Handsome Guide to Crime Merits
-
Thread created on 21:39:00 - 24/05/16 (10 years ago)|Last replied 18:06:14 - 10/06/24 (2 years ago)The purpose of this guide is to outline and rank the total nerve needed to achieve all the Crime merits, taking into account success rate for a player with an decent Nerve Bar and some perks in Crime Success (more on this later). As such, it is not aimed at brand new players, and is not meant to be followed exactly from top to bottom, since anyone ready to tackle every crime merit in the game has already done a bunch of them.
If you've ever wondered "Which Crime Merit should I go for next?", then this Guide is for you.
Setup: I have my Psychology Bachelor for +10% Crime Success, but not my Federal Judge perk. I have 3 merits in Crime Success, my faction has only Enormity II, and I have every Crime Enhancer. I feel this makes me average in terms of Crime Success rate among active crime clickers, so the success rates I measured should be pretty ... average. Ifollowed Nash's Guide to Nerve Bardid Jackets, Thorough Robbery, Stealth Virus, then Warehouse Arson to get my NNB to 45, and many of these were measured on the way there. Regardless this is based on my own experience and by polling other similar players, so yours will likely vary slightly. But that's okay, the order of efficiency should still stay basically the same.
Approximate Success Rates:Nerve Type Crime Specific Success % 2 Other Search for cash Any 100% 3 Selling Sell copied media Any 100% 4 Theft Shoplift Jacket 100% 8 Drug Transport drugs Cocaine 80% 9 Computer Plant a computer virus Stealth 75% 10 Murder Assassination Mob Boss 75% 11 Fraud Arson Warehouse 95% 12 Auto Grand Theft Auto Parked 70%
There are a total of 95 Crime-based Medals and Honor Bars covered here. I didn't include the Honor Bar at 10k total Crimes, nor the Rank Medals at 10k and 20k total Crimes. I also haven't included Busting in this list, though I'll mention it again later.
For each merit, or group of merits, I calculated ...
Nerve Required for Crime x Number of Crimes for next Merit ÷ Success Rate
... to get the approx amount of TOTAL NERVE a player would need to achieve the merit. For example, for the first 3 Computer Crimes merits, you need 1,000 successes. Planting a Virus is 9 Nerve, and I measured the success rate at about 75%. So ...
9 Nerve x 1,000 Crimes ÷ 75% Success = 12,000 Nerve for 3 merits = 4,000 Nerve per merit
Then I ordered the list by Lowest Nerve per Merit to get this:Crime Count Num. Crimes Nerve Reqd. # Merits Nerve per Merit Theft 0 to 2500 2,500 10,000 4 2,500 Drug Deals 0 to 500 500 5,000 2 2,500 GTA 0 to 1200 1,200 19,200 6 3,429 Fraud 0 to 1500 1,500 17,370 5 3,474 Computer Crimes 0 to 1000 1,000 12,000 3 4,000 Theft 2501 to 10000 7,500 30,000 6 5,000 Drug Deals 501 to 1000 500 5,000 1 5,000 GTA 1201 to 1500 300 4,800 1 5,143 Computer Crimes 1001 to 5000 4,000 48,000 9 5,333 Fraud 1501 to 5000 3,500 40,526 7 5,789 Computer Crimes 5001 to 6000 1,000 12,000 2 6,000 GTA 1501 to 7000 5,500 88,000 12 7,857 Other 0 to 5000 5,000 10,000 1 10,000 Theft 10001 to 25000 15,000 60,000 6 10,000 Drug Deals 1001 to 2000 1,000 10,000 1 10,000 Fraud 5001 to 10000 5,000 57,895 5 11,579 Computer Crimes 6001 to 10000 4,000 48,000 4 12,000 Murders 0 to 10000 10,000 133,333 11 12,121 Drug Deals 2001 to 6000 4,000 40,000 3 13,333 Illegal Products 0 to 5000 5,000 15,000 1 15,000 GTA 7001 to 10000 3,000 48,000 3 17,143 Drug Deals 6001 to 10000 4,000 40,000 2 20,000 Totals 85,000 757,457 95
You'll have to figure out yourself where you are with each category and where to go next, but if you start from the top of the list and work your way down, you'll pile up the crime merits as efficiently as possible. Happy hunting!
Appendix:
Q: Crimes 2.0 is coming soon©, why waste time making this Guide?!
A: I want to have as many Crime merits as possible before it hits, since associated merits may be changing like they did for Networth.
Q: Ew why include Drug Crimes? They ain't safe!
A: This Guide doesn't recommend whether or not you do them, just shows how they fit into the list for merits.
Q: When can I do each of these crimes? At what Nerve Bar?
A: If you're just starting, I recommend using Nash's Guide or any other way (about 5000 jackets and 1000 Arsons, for example) to get to at least 35 NNB before taking a step back and then focusing on this list to chase merits. Once you're at 35, you should be able to reach the Success Rates I listed above and keep at least a 35 NNB even while doing the Drug Crimes, as long as you've got most of the relevant perks as well.
Q: That Success Rate for XXX Crime is wrong!! Your dum!
A: I got those numbers from tracking my successes manually, and from comparing to other players in similar situations. Then I rounded a bit for prettyness. The actual numbers aren't as important as the ranking. And I'm not going to re-do all the math with your custom success rate, so if you think your GTA rate is higher/lower than just move those lines up or down the list a bit accordingly.
Q: How can I improve my Crime Success Rate?
A: Psychology Bachelor (+10%) and Federal Judge Perk (+10%); put merits in Crime Experience (+30% max); and have at least one of each Crime Enhancer (+2% I think?) in your Inventory - not in your Display Case or Bazaar. See below for Enhancers and other necessary items for each Crime:- 2 Nerve Search for Cash: Pair of Glasses
- 3 Nerve Sell Copied Media: High-Speed DVD Drive
- 4 Nerve Steal Jacket: Mountain Bike
- 8 Nerve Transport Drugs: Advanced Driving Tactics Manual
- 9 Nerve Stealth Virus: Ergonomic Keyboard; Stealth Virus
- 11 Nerve Warehouse Arson: Wind Proof Lighter; Gas Can; Driving License
- 12 Nerve Parked Car: Screwdriver; Coat Hanger; Driving License
Q: What about Busting?
A: In theory Busting should be great for merits, at only 5 Nerve per bust and 250 Nerve per Merit for the first 4 merits. But due to this Busting mechanic, most average players in my situation can only get an absolute max of 4-6 successful busts per day, and the highest CE players can maybe get 10-12. That's 50 days per merit at a perfect pace for me, which is worse than most merits above. I recommend not even starting to Bust until you've completed your Law Bachelor for the +50% easier perk, and then just getting a few every day while continuing to work on the above list.Last edited by HandsomePants on 13:48:50 - 22/06/17 (9 years ago) -

Posted on 08:01:41 - 25/05/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linknice guide. I appreciated the success rates.
I would also appreciate a suggested nnb amount for each crime.
for example, from my experience:
steal jackets: 20 nnb
warehouse arson: 30 nnb
transport cocaine: 35 nnb
I wrote transport cocaine 35 instead of 30 because there is an higher success rate with 35 nnb. -

I actually recommend using Nash's Guide or any other way (just jackets and Arsons, for example :P) to get to at least 35 NNB before taking a step back and then focusing on this list to chase merits. Once a player is at 35, he/she should be able to reach the Success Rates I listed above and keep at least a 35 NNB even while doing the Drug Crimes, as long as most of the relevant perks are applied as well.
I'll add this note to the guide. Thanks again. -

I agree with everything in this guide except the busting part.
It's pretty easy to get the busting merit. I myself (at 40nnb) have 490-something busts).
I would've had closer to 1000, if I weren't so lazy. I only do 1 or 2 busts a day.
As long as your NNB is above 30 and your level above 25ish, busts are easy really. My tips for busting are to check that the level of the person you're busting is below you're own and the time is below 4 hrs.
Typically, new busters should start busting players at level 1-10 for -3 hrs in jail.
As long as you are careful about who you bust, you shouldn't fail it very much. I myself have a 80% success rate, mostly because I was carefree and started busting at a low NNB trying to bust players jailed for 6hrs+Last edited by 1898966 on 12:44:42 - 03/06/16 (10 years ago)

Posted on 13:25:50 - 03/06/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI admittedly don't have much busting experience - I quit after less than 50 - and I suppose it can't hurt to start early, as long as you're careful. But even so, it's taken you a whole year to get just 1 merit (almost 2) from 485 busts. And the entire point of this Guide is to order Crime merits by how long (or how much nerve) it takes to get them.
Let's take an arbitrary 300 Nerve spent per day, which is good for a mid-level player who this guide is aimed at. I probably use a bit more than that at 50 Nerve bar and refilling every day. Then even the worst merits on my list take about 20,000 Nerve or 67 days to get, so to beat that rate you'd have to succeed at 4 Busts per day (250 Busts in 62.5 days). And every bust you attempt is slowing down your progress to much more attainable merits.
I'm not saying your way is wrong, I'm just personally choosing to stay away from Busting until I can guarantee my highest chance at success, and until the merits from other crimes start coming a bit slower. -

Posted on 14:09:06 - 19/06/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkgood guide. note that this is a good "average" profile that fits most players. having maximum amount of CE boosters will improve the odds.
For example, if you have 10% from psych degree, 10% for fed judge, 30% from crime merits, the max on faction enormity and the enhancer, drug crime fails are somewhere between 1% and 1.5%, giving a success rates for drug crimes of close 98.5%. The fail rate seems to be a fixed limit, with the last few CE improvements almost eliminating the blues but having no effect on reds. -

Posted on 17:03:41 - 19/06/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkGood info, thanks. And yes I was aiming at average-to-good CSR, also assuming that as perks increased the order of the list wouldn't change much, if at all. It's possible that wouldn't be the case though, since some crimes definitely have a higher "best-case" rate than others ... perhaps after I reach that stage in perks I'll re-evaluate success rates and add another table. Something to do!

Posted on 06:24:21 - 16/07/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkList is pretty good, I still argue that including the Drug Crimes all over the place on that list while mathematically correct, is quite misleading, and could be damaging. At the very least the list should be split into 2 lists as I describe below.
To make this better (for the new/lazy folk):
The guide can aim to answer this question - Is it better to level your NNB to 60 before attempting to complete all crime merits? My hypothesis is yes in terms of efficiency as CE never caps, which then highlights the point of why Drug Crimes, and any high risk crime should be planned for accordingly.
1.) Find out how many of each crime it would take to get the avg player to 35 NNB (i.e. using nash's guide)
2.) State how good being in a 10* pub is for working on NNB (easily possible for anyone given the low work stat req's) and recommend alternatives which players should join to focus on raising their nerve bar/completing merits. i.e. what is the $ value of a +15 Nerve and a 25pt refill? vs market alternatives?
3.) List which crimes merits are earned along the way to 35 NNB using guide above, then diverge on 2 paths: Player A - does drug crimes till they hit the last drug crime merit they plan to ever earn or Player B - Ignores drug crimes completely for the rest of their Torn Career. Personally I think the very last chance a player has to make this decision I feel is when they just hit 60 NNB, beyond that point your talking about flushing years of work down the drain I feel.
4) I think that the transport cocaine success rate of 80% is based on a NNB of 35, any higher and I think its actually lower. I destroyed my 50 NNB, but don't remember if it was honestly better or worse than 80% at that CE. My gut tells me it was lower as it feels I only get Reds now at 35 NNB when my CE nears the point of leveling to 40 (but this is not based on any testing).
Side note:
It took me about 65 days to go from 6000 to 8,000 Drug crimes at a 35 NNB, according to the medal earned dates, which means with my modified nerve bar of 45 + about 24 beers a day I completed 30 crimes a day.
I joined a 10* pub 3 days ago, at around 8,730 which I will stay in until I hit 10k merit and will repost how long this takes me.
**update** It took me ~59 days to go from 8,000 to 10,000 drug crimes while in a 10*pub.Last edited by maledict on 18:37:30 - 07/05/17 (9 years ago)

But .. my response is: that's not really what this guide is for. I strictly wanted to rank all the Crime merits by how quickly they can come, relative to each other, and maybe provide some general conclusions drawn from that. But everyone who looks at this will have a different NNB, job, set of passives, financial situation, etc. .... and the ordered list should look almost the same regardless.
That way, people can use it to make their own decisions about Drug Crimes, or anything else. Me personally, looking at this table reinforces that I do NOT want to make a run at Drug Crimes yet. But some people may want to just get the first couple and then move on, I respect that decision too. It's my hope that Crimes 2.0 either removes CE loss or otherwise makes my decision the right one ... if not, then I'll suck it up and go back to them ASAP.
Re: Pub ... you get 30 extra nerve per day with the 10* passive. +15 when you wake up, and +15 if you refill nerve. If you use all your jps toward extra refills every 2.5 days ... then at a 75 nerve bar after passives, that's equivalent to another 30 nerve per day. So +60 nerve per day is pretty impressive. I use about 300 per day with refill and no beers atm, so that'd be a 20% increase for me. But again, working in a Pub would just speed along the merits, and doesn't really affect the order in which I would chase them.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing you get that 10,000th Drug Crime. 9,737 as of this post :D -
