What to Buy When Traveling - UPDATED Sat 26/03/16

This is a simplistic look at what to buy when traveling. Prices are always changing, so some items may be worth more than others at different times, but generally speaking these rules hold.
First, it's always profitable to buy the "collectible" flowers and plushies, as well as alcohol and the blinding temporary weapons. Here they are by country:
Next, some drugs are profitable and some are not. Some are on the line (and I marked those as not profitable).
Drugs are trickier because the price in different cities is constantly changing (though not by much). So these prices are just a snapshot in time.
UPDATED Sat 07:06:03 UTC - 26/03/16
EDIT: I updated this to show lowest cost, current cost (26-03-2016) and lowest price in TC market (25-03-2016). Also profit per hour for WLT and PI airstrip. The "=" sign means the current price is a record low, but may not be the best profit item for that country.
Finally comes all the other items. Only buy these items if you want to keep them, or if none of the suggested items above are for sale. Even if profitable, these items may take a long time to sell, and you may not get the price shown.
Only buy the items on the LEFT when traveling. Items on the RIGHT are cheaper in Torn. Some exceptions: the price on pillows is fluctuating due to the missions, so you will have to check pillow pricing. The combat gear is shown on the RIGHT below because I do not have solid pricing in Torn. You will have to decide for yourself where to buy it. And some items in Dubai / UAE, like the gold-plated AD-47, I do not list here because there are none for resale.
UPDATED Sat 07:06:03 UTC - 26/03/16 - Biggest change is more items worth buying in Japan.

Posted on 03:51:06 - 16/02/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linklol, there IS a profit/hr column for the top section and the drug section, for WLT flying and PI flying. I didn't include them because prices on all of those items change so rapidly, the results would be misleading.
Here's an example of the top ranking (from about 12 hours ago), I have multiple linked sheets. Cost/hr is for WLT on this one.
EDIT: An updated what's hot list dated 18-13-2016. Note: this is PER ITEM. So if you can carry 20 items, multiply this number by 20. It looks like PI profit is roughly 70% of WLT profit, so multiply by 0.7 to get a rough idea of PI profit.
For example, $25,000 per item profit with WLT times 20 for 20-item carry = $500,000 per hour. Multiple by .7 to get $350,000, a rough approximation of PI travel profit on 20 items. That's $5M profit for 10 hours of travel and trading with WLT, or $3.5M using the PI.

Posted on 03:59:55 - 16/02/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkwhen Xanax drops to it's lowest price -- around $738K in South Africa, it goes to the top of the profit chart. But right now, Xanax is priced higher and so it falls further down the list.
The order of items changes, but the top 20 are usually the top 20 in some order. Profit her hour using a PI is slightly less, but the order is the same. -

Posted on 09:15:11 - 16/02/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkThere are collectors for most of the travel items, so if there's nothing else to buy you can grab some nodding turtles or whatever, as it is usually not a great idea to camp overseas and wait for items to restock. Buy some crap, cut your losses and travel home. But there are plenty of travel items that are impossible to sell at a profit too, like many drugs and weapons.Last edited by JussiJernkuuk on 09:23:22 - 16/02/16 (10 years ago)

Posted on 09:37:15 - 16/02/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkYup! If you zoom in, you'll see that nodding turtle is on the "buy" list, but only if there are no Stingray Plushies or Banana Orchid Flowers in stock.
Totally agree on weapons being hard to sell, especially now that the new accuracy/damage ratings are available. otoh, if you happen (by chance) to buy a weapon with a high ranking, it will be easy to sell to another player. If you get a low ranking weapon, your best bet is to sell it back to Al's Gun Shop. Then at least it will increase your credit rating with Duke (selling back to the game increases your credit rating).
The reason some drugs are not profitable is because those drugs are available as a company special (like ketamine), or arrive in drug packs as stock bonuses (like vicodin). The exception is Xanax, which retains it's value even though it's available as a stock bonus. The other "profitable" drugs can only be purchased overseas, so they retain their value.
Personally, I don't plan on buying any more weapons or armor until I see what the next enhancement brings. It's just too risky to get stuck with weapons or armor that no one wants. -

Posted on 20:35:24 - 18/03/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkQuick question, forgive me if I sound like a fool...
Why is having a WLT Block more profitable per hour than having a Private Island?
I can't quite wrap my head around that part..
Is it because of the property upkeep costs? -
