Here is the Googledoc in Table Form Below

Link to regular googledoc: CLICKABLE LINK TO GOOGLE DOC(Warning a 40+ pages of text)

The post below will contain the FAQ and should answer roughly 99% of all questions ever asked about the Army. The other 1% can most likely be found in the Googledoc mentioned above. Any attempt to read either would be much appreciated.

If you like the Guide please feel free to like the very first post of this thread (Hint: it is this post) because it actually shows outside of the thread.

Thats some nice info...Its a long post and I don't know if anyone has talked about this...It says that the army is not the best way to get stats if you are active, but the other options they give that gives more bs than army requires the player to spend they'r E in order to get more stats but while in the army its calculated only the jp bonus. You still have your energy to train along and not only this, you also don't have to use drug or booster cd in order to get the gains from the army...wich means you can get your bonus from the army (may be lower than other jobs) but you still can train and do jumps a top of the army bonus...is it taken in consideration to affirm that the army is not as good as other jobs? I still have little base stats to calculate, but I feel like a double front training is better than relly only on the jp bonus... not sure if i'm missing something important or if I made myself clear since english is not my native language and math is not my area...what do you guy's think? It sounds a good deal to me to train other stats in the gym and get def from the army
Thanks for the question. The biggest problem with your explanation is that you can do everything you wrote even better in Company. A good example is do everything you are doing now in that example you provided, but in a Fitness Center.

Also, any other company will pay you more wage, has arguably better specials (they don't have to be only battle stats specials) to grow your character better, faster, and cheaper.

Let me try to explain again as clearly as possible my thoughts on the Army.

    Only reasons Army is good:
Being inactive for months or years, because you cannot get fired; and 2 Merits.

I don't consider being inactive a good play style and I do not wish to encourage others to play this way for the health of the game. It's a major reason why I've discontinued updating the guide until a major change to Jobs is done by Ched.

Major reasons why Army is BAD
1.) Change that increased the Happiness Cap to 99,999, for most this means the time they are below 1 million of any battle stat is now very very short. Army was only good when the alternatives were either just as slow, expensive or did not exist. Remember job points are only at max 10 per day and in a company you get 10 max without having to rank up.

2.) You can only be in one Job/Company, and so new companies for low battle stats like: Adult Novelties , Sweet Shop's are very powerful early on and also it's a lot easier to get work stats from director trains.

3.) All Torn City Jobs (run by NPC's shown below) are only good for merits and actually significantly slow the progress of your growth. You should aim to spend the least amount of time in them when going for the permanent Perks/Merits. The only exception to this rule is a revive game play style.

For others please refrain from posting or bumping this thread if at all possible.

fyi I self reported to see if I can sticky this post to the top.

Disclaimer: All statements below are based strictly on user data only, therefore is subject to error. Please use at your own discretion.

    Basic Info & FAQ

    Q: What is the Army?

Is is one of six jobs available by default starting at level 1. Most players join to either spy stats or with the intention of using job points on Bear the Brunt job special. Below is a table that shows requirements and when specials unlock. Source

Q: Should I join the Army?

    • With recent updates the Army is not the fastest or an efficient method of obtaining stats and is not recommended for most players as it gives the worst possible return on time/job points.
    • It is only recommended for players who tend to be inactive for long periods (i.e. vacation) and/or cannot log on once every two or three days, or for other reasons cannot hold any other type of job/company.
    • For the other 99% of torn who actively play the game, it is strongly recommended that you refer to the table below and join a player run company that best suits your situation.
Company Type (Best options near top)Daily Gains (@ stat cap of 50m)
10* Gent's Strip Club (Dex Only)~109,980 per 600E spent traning or ~1833 Dex per train
10* Ladies Strip Club (Def Only)~109,980 per 600E spent traning or ~1833 Def per train
    10* Restaurant~295,000 to any stat (requires 16 30e cans or 5 FHC's)
    10*Farm~138,000 to any stat
10* Fitness Center100,000 to Strength + ~550 to any stat per train passive
10* Game Shop / Candle Shop~99,000 to any stat
    10* Furniture Store100,000 Strength
Any 10* Company basic energy job special~59,000 to any stat
    ArmyCapped@ 35,000 def or 25,000 str

Q: How long does it take to reach General position?

    • At least 40 Days worth of Job Points to promote yourself from Private to General.
    • Recommended ways to gain work stats are: Join Player run companies & pay for extra director trains, or join the Education job.
    • Refer to NikolaTesla's City Career Fast-Tracking Guide for more details.

Q: When do I get job points?

    • Around 18:00:00 - 18:03:00 Torn Time

Q: How much Defense / Strength will I get using ( X ) of Army Points?

(Note: points are used in "bulk" and not one at a time)

    • Estimate your gains using the table of player data in the first post. Table at top of page is organized by descending order of starting defense or strength.
    • Warning: using the special Brute Force for Strength gains yields roughly 30% less stats per gain compared to the defense special and is therefore not recommended.

Q: Is it better to use my Army Points one at a time or in "bulk" (all at once)?

    • For the best results use your all your Army points at one time.

Q: What is the most Defense or Strength I can get per point spent on the Army special?

    • with a starting Defense of 50 million you will get Defe3500.5 per Point

    • with a starting Strength of 50 million you will get 2500.5 per Point

Q: What is the most Strength I can get per point spent on the Fitness Center special

    • With a starting Strength of 50 million you will get roughly 10000 per Job Point

Q: Does Happiness make a difference when using Army Points?

    • No, there are only two factors which affect your gains: 1.) Your starting applicable stat, either Defense or Strength and 2.) the Amount of Job Points you use on the associated job special.
    • For example if you wanted to use the Defense Special "Bear the brunt" only your defense before spending any points and the amount of Army Points you use on it will affect your stat gain.
    • Post by Ched for Proof

Q: Which special is better for me the Army or Fitness Center?

    • As a broad rule of thumb it is generally recommended to use the Army special while your starting applicable stat is below one million.

    • For example when using the Strength Special w/ a starting strength of 12.5m : 1 Point used on Army Special = 1 Point used in a Fitness Center
    • This means if you have 12.5m Strength you should seriously consider joining a Fitness Center.

Q: What do most people do in the Army?

    • They use 1,100 Army Points and raise their defense to around 25,000 before spending points, to gain about 1m Defense to bypass low gains early on.
    • It's highly recommended that you calculate your own playtime/job points/money/stats growth potential and compare it to what you would gain in the Army as most often the Army is not the best option available to you.

Q: How long does it take to get 1.25 million Defense through the Army?

    • about 4 months (if you start with about 25,000 Defense at the General Rank)

Q: How long would it take to get 50 million (stat cap) Defense with just Army Points?

    • It takes about 13,928 Army Points to go from 1.25m to 50m using only the Army Special

    • Saving 13,928 Army Points takes 1,393 Days or roughly 3.8 Years (@ General Rank)

    Q. How long does it take to get 50m Defense in a gym?

    • From 1.25 million defense If you spend 1500 energy to train a day, w/ 4500 happy, +2% gym stat gain,in a 7 dot gym or better it takes about 65 days.

    Q. What is an efficient way to train battle stats?

    Q. Stat Increasing Company Specials : Quick Comparison Guide (See Variables At Bottom of this post)

Company Type (Best options near top)
    Daily Gains
10* Gent's Strip Club (Dex Only)
~109,980 per 600E spent traning or ~1833 Dex per train
10* Ladies Strip Club (Def Only)
~109,980 per 600E spent traning or ~1833 Def per train
    10* Restaurant
    ~295,000 to any stat (requires 16 30e cans or 5 FHC's)
    10*Farm
    ~138,000 to any stat
    10* Fitness Center
100,000 to Strength + ~550 to any stat per train passive
10* Game Shop / Candle Shop
    ~99,000 to any stat
Any 10* Company basic energy job special
    ~59,000 to any stat
    Army
    Capped@ 35,000 def or 25,000 str

    Notes:

The list above assumes that gym train % increases are calculated similarly to steadfast faction perks.

Companies with +% gain per train(Strip Clubs/Fitness Centers) can greatly outperform other w/ enough energy supplements like Xanax, FHC, Cans, Newsletter bonuses, Books ect.
    **Variables for above calculations**

    • 10* company ranking
    • Georges Gym @ 10E per train
    • All Capped Stats (50 million)
    • +8% gym gains from perks
    • 4500 Happy (Gains from happiness are from before happiness changes and limit increased to 99,999)
    • 600 Daily Energy Use

Just a question, I have 490 points atm and will use them on 10k def at 1k army points so i'm about 50 days away from using them.
I have a faction member who is usually joking around but he said it's being nerfed and removed and whatnot. I remember the conspiracies pre-respo so i think he is going off of them, but can someone confirm or deny if army points at being nerfed in the near future? Thanks

Please understand when asking a highly subjective question like this all you can get as an answer is going to be an opinion, based entirely on a guess unless you somehow manage to get a response from Ched directly.

    So here is mine:

I highly doubt that any changes are being made to the Army.

    Reasons:
    • RESPO will probably already take over a month to fix
    • 50 days is a relatively short period in torn
    • Army seemslike it's already in it's 10-star form (compared to other starter Jobs)
    • Don't see why Army would get nerfed since Company specials are already much stronger
    • Have not read any argument with solid reasoning behind a nerf
I had hoped my very own post of a turn-in after RESPO would quell any mis-informed claims like yours, but I guess it's worth answering just one more time for reassurance.

One little caveat: Ched does like to make un-announced changes so I can still be totally wrong, just weigh your risks and options accordingly is all I can really say. I still stand behind my belief that no changes will be made at least in the next 6 months if at all.

Yeah that's all i was looking for lol. an opinion.

Just now i had another member use 800 points in strength on a base of 45k. He only got 40k from it which adds more fuel to the it's already been nerfed argument :/
I was in the same boat as you that we wouldn't see a change to the army but i think we just had one recently, after your 17th of july turn in.
I personally will wait until i see someone else turn 1k points in on a lowish base def before i will do a trade in, but thanks anyway man :)

Will trade all points in for strength - but only if anyone is interested in results. (Otherwise I'll just keep stocking them up like I have been for oh so long :P )

Will be getting happy to about 2500.

(And no I really don't care that everyone knows my current stats - I've got something like 80k cash on me.)

    Gain = 3,191,572.1666

Gain PER POINT = (approx) 1512.59

So I don't know exactly what that means, but I have an assload of strength now, so cool.

    Hi there maledict.
Thank you for the guide. After the changes were made to the Army job a good while back, I'd lost interest and viewed it as a nerf.
Might I ask an opinion/check my understanding of the guide with you?
If you had 25k army points and something like 1k defence, what would you do?
The closest case I see to this is MoboHojo's result.
If I'm doing the maths right... 14286 points in one go (assuming that hits the cap per train) would get to ~50mil gain. Probably missed a key point there. Maybe a bit more on top?
Any logic to training defence up to a point in the gym before that, with maxed out Happy, or otherwise?
Say you also had some pretty lacklustre strength too. A modest 30k. I understand that the strength gains are less effective, but if you already had the army points?

    Thanks,
    Phoenix

If you are looking for bigger Army Point spending data then I'm sorry but everything in the Guide is what has been given to me so there isn't any other data that I know of

You are correct in assuming that the least amount of Army Points to gain ~50m Defense with a base defense of 1,000 would be 14,285 job points. However, I'd probably go with a slightly more conservative estimate but really either way your looking at like a 47m gain at the very minimum if you use 14,285 Army Points on 1,000 Base Defense.
If you really do have 25,000 Army Points there is absolutely no reason to train defense up at all unless you somehow wanted to save Army Points for spies or something.

Lets say you spend 14,285 Army Points on Defense @ 1k base and gain 47-50m defense. That leaves you with 10,715 points left to spend on Strength with a base of 30k.

IF the next closest data is correct:

    By lalalo [1165850]
    Army Points: 4200*
    Str Gain:7,600,000*
    Gain Per Point: 1,809.52
    Base Str: 1,000*

Meaning with at the very minimum you will get approximately 19,383,435 Strength for spending 10,715 Army Points on a Base Strength of 30k. I'd ballpark a gain of anywhere from about 19-25m Strength according to the data that is available on strength gains.

So to sum it all up:

If I had 25,000 Army Points to spend I'd spend 14,285 Army Points on Defense Special to Gain 50m Defense, then spend the remaining 10,715 on strength. Quit the Army and start making money in a company or a better stat special like Fitness Center or Furniture Company.

Brilliant. Thanks for bringing this back. Been wanting to go back to the Army but it's also nice to actually make a bit of money from a job. Ah well, pros and cons eh :) Anyhoo thanks for reviving this and the work you put into keeping the list!
