    UPDATE made 12/08/2025
    WORK IN PROGRESS

The company guide for future Businessman and Businesswomen:
Hey everyone! I hope you’re enjoying Torn City!
This guide is something i really wanted to do, as the subject seems easy, but the more you investigate it, the more you understand how difficult having a company in torn is.

First How to open a company:

I'm just going to show you how you can open a company as i had a few players asking me that question.

First you need to go to newspaper.

    (Invalid img)

    Then select job listing.

Then you’ll be on the listing of all the company's existent in torn.

Select the type of company you’re interested in by selecting “Find a job” near the company type.

    For example, a Firework Stand.

Then you’ll be in the listing of all Firework stand opened starting by the top 10* companies in that type.

Afterward at the top of that page select “start a (type of company) company”.

Before opening a company normally everyone will tell you to have at least the bachelor's in business to start your company or to buy a company already higher in stars. For all the company related studies there is All Business Management courses ofc and 2 other studies The course MTH2280 helps increase company productivity by 1% and the course LAW2100 gain an increase in advertising effectiveness for your company.

There are also the perks in stock the 2 that you absolutely need are:

    • Tell Group Plc. (TGP) - gives you a significant boost in company advertising effectiveness.
    • TC Media Productions (TCP) - gives your company a sales boost.

there is a third one but it's optional as it's more for players that will use the company safe to stock a lot of money in it (the company fund is unlimited so you can put as much money as you want).

    But!

you can start without the business education as I did, it's harder and more expensive, and time consuming.

But I'm crazy and i have enough money in game to do so without stopping my training progress.

To be fair not exactly without any studies i had 4: (with this studies and stocks it works to maintain a 7* AN you’ll also need and avg of 120 effectiveness for your employees)

    • Introduction to business.
    • Communication.
    • Marketing.
    • Human resource management.

And the stock: TC Media Productions (TCP) - gives your company a sales boost.

With only those studies and the stock, I was able to maintain a stable 7* AN. Of course, if it’s for lesser stars you’ll probably be able to maintain it depend on the effectiveness of your employees. But as 0 education you’ll be able to go to 5* without a hitch it will only take more time specially if your employees aren’t effective enough.

This is the recommended edu to get from start to last.

    1- Introduction to business
(The two first edu are mandatory to start with, because most of the time we can’t always find players with 100 EE in their position, with those two edu we can take in less effective employees and have them at 100 EE)
    2- Corporate strategy
    3-Communication
(If the company is at 7*you’ll absolutely need the ability to be able to go over the RRP and keep your loyal customers.)
    4- Pricing strategy
    5- Product management
The rest of edu can be done slowly.
    6 - Statistics
    7 - Corporate finance
    8 - Logistics
    9 - Business ethics
    10 - E-Commerce
    11 - Marketing
    12 - Human resource management
    13 - Introduction to law
    14 - Media Law
    15 - introduction to Mathematics
    16 - Probability
    17 - Bachelor of Commerce

    • P.S: you should also ask about the AVG effectiveness of the employees pure working stats effectiveness not added with management and director studies and the settled in bonus, before buying the company.
It is also worth noting that the bachelors of commerce has no effect on sales, stars or profits.  It is only needed to purchase all of the upgrades for new companies.  Directors who only want to buy high-star companies do not need to train this right away, or even at all. Thx to Psilly [2117495] for noticing and informing me about a mistake i made in the list above and for insight.

Having all the business-related studies and stocks helps your company to get to 10*, it’s nice to have a 10*, and some 10* perks are incredible (for example the 10* in a Lingerie store passive access to business class flight). And it makes your life easier to run a company less stress, as it helps you get more effectiveness from your employees and boost the productivity for your company etc.

All of this is nice and everything to be honest you don’t really have to make your company a 10* to make money, to rank up its depend more in your employees than you, so the better stats they have the more effective they are and the more customers and daily income you’ll get, with that said you’ll be able to rank up naturally if you meet the conditions.

Some basics about companies in torn:

The number of trains you get every day and Job Points depend on the number of stars the company is at.

    A 5* company = 5 trains per day = 5 Job points per day.

Director's gain working stats depending on the number of stars. At 5* you gain the maximum number of working stats you can get; it won’t get higher at 6* or anything.

How does a company star up?

It’s roughly decided by the daily/weekly customers, and the daily/weekly income.

You also need to compare your company with other companies in one star higher than you. When comparing don’t go look for the top company in 1 star higher but more like the fifth before bottom or in the middle of the listing in that star level.

And you compare your daily/weekly income/customers to know if you have a chance to rank up or not.

But it’s not that easy even companies have XP, and that XP is gained by total sales made by the company, and the age of the company, the total sold during the company lifetime.

In general, the ranking up need some time you aren’t guaranteed to rank up every week.

This is an information shared by another player on forum while opening his company I'm sorry, I don’t remember his Game ID if I find the post again, I'll add it here.

    1* achieved in 1 day.

    2* achieved in 22 days.

    3* achieved in 36 days.

    4* achieved in 50 days.

    5* achieved in 72 days.

    6* achieved in 85 days.

Some other factors you have while managing your company:

    Popularity

Popularity is the percent of your weekly income compared to the highest weekly income of your company type, regardless of ratings.

I.E. If you make $5,000,000 compared to the best company which made $10,000,000, your popularity would be 50%. It's just a quick tool to see how you compare to other companies of that type, which useful for understanding how close you are to gaining a rank in the 10-star ranking system.

    Efficiency

Efficiency is probably the most important bar to keep an eye on. This displays how efficient your employees are on average. Ideally, you would want to keep this at 100% as much as possible. The efficiency itself is capped at 100%. However, the true value may be above this if you have over-performing employees: potentially hiding the ineffectiveness of other employees.

    Environment

Environment is based on the size of the staff room and the number of employees. Drug users and inactive employees will lower your environment score. To compensate, buy bigger staff rooms or hire cleaners and managers, since a low environment score can lower income by up to a third.

(This is a copy past from the official torn wiki, it’s already explained perfectly, i don’t need to put it in with my own words)

Also, the efficiency shown in the picture above is the global efficiency of your company.

How do you choose your employee's position ?

Well, for this question, it’s easy to find out. You should go to the job listing of your company type then view the top 1 company and view their profile, you’ll be able to check all their employee list and their position, all you need to do is to copy the same setting.

How do you choose the position for your employees to get the most effectiveness possible ?

For that you need to use torn stats.

You can find a tab for companies, and you’ll be able to view your daily stats from the moment you owned the company, you should at least log in once after your report time, to fetch the data into torn stats, and track your company progress.

Then you can find the employee details section in torn stats, there you can see their potential effectiveness for each position. You can also do some simulations on torn stats, to know what kind of working stats your employee will need to get a certain amount of effectiveness, with working stats alone.

Now how can a company make profit?

    First way to make money:

you can sell trains if you have a stable company at 5* or more and could get 1 employee with less stats required or not as effective as your other employees you should sell trains the price per train is 300k to 800k depending on the type of company, the number of stars, the company perks, and the number of trains per day.

you can also put taxes, in general in 10* Adult novelties, employees give 1 e-DVD per week as a tax to their director, it's roughly about 144m a month. (only an example because if you read this guide, you most probably don’t have the business bachelor and other studies, to be able to have a 10* AN and put an e-DVD taxes to your employees).

You get trains for each star you have, so a 7-star company can give 7 trains a day.

you can also get more trains if the company have some special position as HR officer Trainer, you’ll get 1 to 3 more trains.

Second way to make money with a company :

it's to buy low star companies and make them star up and resell them for a higher price but for that a lot of variables are needed specially if you don't have the bachelor's in business etc...

First the average employee's effectiveness with working stats alone

The Daily costumers and the daily/weekly income of the company and you need to compare with the other companies to see the rank of the company in it star level.

Also, companies have XP and that xp is gained by age loyal customers (costumers in companies are game generated) and that loyalty is shown by the popularity of the company.

And without education it's hard to rank up its depend on the employees so you need high stats employees at least 3 times the required stats to be able to have a decent stock sold every day Also depending on the type of company you can either pay them a salary or not in an AN if it's at least 5 stars you don't have to give them a salary because they can get 2 e DVD a week so it's roughly a bit over 1m income a day

Third way to make money with a company :

Opening high daily income companies but those companies cost a lot and the salary for employees is set at 25 times the highest stats the employee have or 5m a day as a max possible salary, or even sharing the daily income with your employees (something like 50% for the company and the rest equally shared with everyone)

    (Invalid img)

Also, a company like a Logistic management company the daily income is more than decent, and the price to sell is worth it, but to open one it’s expensive as hell, it’s more a company for someone who already made money with the two other ways I wrote before.

    Part 2:

    Advanced knowledge about companies:

If you’re just starting your journey in the company business don’t read this section as you may get confused.

Selling the company to the game:

    How does it work?

So, the selling price is 75% of the cost of all upgrades + 5% of the total income made by the company in its lifetime!

That 5% is the most important factor, especially for companies such as an Oil Rig, Minning Corp, PSF, LM etc. that have a weekly income of hundreds of dollars. Because the older the company is, the more the potential price will be high.

For example, a high star Oil Rig will make more than 100m per day. The director let say his profit or his margin will be 15m a day. But in reality it’s 15m + (100 * 5%), so each day instead of making 15m his potentially making 20m, that’s why in a lot of guides or even other directors will tell you to check the price of sell back of the company before selling it to a player, as in the lifetime of the company, it was making more money in value that what you think.

For low budget companies selling to the game is nearly pointless as the daily income will be much lower compared to an Oil rig for example. The company business is a bit unstable the prices go up and down randomly. That's because there isn’t any sheet for prices for companies, each director chose a price that think for him is the best. Usually, directors either sell their companies to make profit, to change the type of company they are managing, they don’t have enough rl time to stay as a director, or they are just bored of managing companies. And this is why the prices could crash anytime.

    Why is this knowledge advanced?

Well, some players use the fact that the sell back of the company is 75% of the total cost of the upgrades + 5% of the total income, and the potential of the company that’s a bit outside my scope of knowledge but I believe that the last 20% of the price is linked to this potential. This potential refers to the highest ranked and earning company in that specific company type. So, what you can do is to open an Oil Rig, recruit players make the company get as much in daily income as possible and check the sell back price to sell if you are on profit before selling it. Why I'm telling you this, it’s because you’ll probably get a hard time selling a low star Oil Rig for a good profit to other players. Also, it’s a question of time too, there is a need to calculate the profit you’ll make after a certain amount of time from the money invested, but I don’t think that the numbers could be worse than bank investment with full merit. This is something I want to work on in the future but for now it’s still only a theory that needs to be proven.

Threshold for effectiveness in company special companies' positions:

    The threshold is as followed:

    100 EE

Managers: compensation of messing stats between 33% to 38%

    Trainers: 1 train generated

    Marketer: No data available

    Cleaners: No data available

    150 EE

    Managers: No data available

    Trainers: 2 trains generated

    Marketer: No data available

    Cleaners: No data available

    200 EE

    Managers: No data available

    Trainers: 3 trains generated

    Marketer: No data available

    Cleaners: No data available

    Manager compensation:

As you may know managers compensate for the missing effectiveness an employee has, this compensation is only WORKING STATS related, director edu and merits, settled in bonus aren’t applied here.

Managers have a capped effectiveness they can compensate and that’s 30 EE.

Manager compensation can’t go over 30 EE no matter how many managers you put in the company.

THIS ONLY TRUE FOR 100 EE EFFECTIVE MANAGER FOR 150 EE OR 200 EE I DON’T KNOW. Didn’t have the opportunity to tested out.

Manger compensation is between 33% to 38% and the maximum they can give in EE is 30.

2 managers compensation is between 55% to 58% and the maximum they can give in EE is 30.

    Trainer position:

Trainers generate an extra train for the director to use every day.

A trainer can generate 1 train at 50 EE, but you can only have one trainer at 50 EE.

If you have a trainer at 100 EE you can put 2 more trainers at 50 EE and 3 trains will be generated.

It's working like a mentor system, so for every 100 EE trainer you have you can put a 50 EE trainer and generate an extra train + another trainer at 50 EE.

BUT! If you only have 2 trainers at 50 EE you will only generate 1 train!

I'm gonna be the 'harsh critic' here and say you're not qualified to make a 'How to Company's Guide'. You have neither the experience nor the knowledge of the nuances. There is a lot of misguided and incorrect information that could stunt a player's growth.

If your aim was to make a 'How to Create a Company Guide' - from the view point of the actual buttons to click to make one, then cull it down and keep the screenshots.

I'm not trying to discourage you from creating guides in future, but you really should get a more sound understanding of the subject matter before purporting to create a guide of this nature.

Happy to discus further via PMs and mails (although I'll be travelling over the next month and will have intermittent internet access).

    Best of luck.

Can a company be robbed? I want to add some of my own money into my bosses company but I don't want to do that if someone can steal it, either from outside or within the company.

yes it can by a software corporation perk, they take 1 - 3 % of the money in vault, but it cost 250 JP, if the money your going to put inside is less than 1b it should be fine.

it's just a general idea for players to not think that their companies will rank up every week. It doesn't mean it's a rule or anything. It's also depend on when you start your company is it a monday or a sunday before the report. you could get your first star by starting a company sunday, and make a sale. then the company will directly be 1*.
it's normal that their is a difference on age when ranking up also depend on wich day you opened your company, at early stage.

I like this guide alot. Im training a new director and it explains alot of the stuff i dont want to type out or send a wiki link for, but also gives me room to guide my way and not have to correct an ass ton of bad info. (just some things i disagree with)

    What's a goon to a goblin?

Keep in mind i rarely buy a company at 10* already unless its a great deal. Keeping this in mind I have a bunch of experience starring up companies, and from my experience star time greatly depends on industry, and also the game plan for a 10* verys based on type. Im not the greatest writer in the world but ill try to write how i determine star time for a company type and hopefully it makes sense. And this is all my opinion.
    .
When determining the length of time it will take to star a company we need to look at a few factors one is how many companies are there of that type, two how much money it makes it makes per day in comparison to others. That's the easy part most people get, but if you go look through the company profiles you can see how old other companies of the same type are. With this data you can see exactly how long it should take to star up if you are viewing a young company, or conversely how much ground you need to make up if all the 10* companies are old af. For example a farm is a business i wouldn't personally touch due to the amount of top end experience at 10*, no 6 month or one year old company is gonna compete with all of that steady years on income gaining experience so you'll probably get stuck at 8-9* for a long time. All of this being said i was able to predict up to 7* for my pub as far as when it will star up on day one. (i was off by a week on 7 it came early)

Lastly i know the part about "Efficiency" was copied from the wiki but i actively discourage people from using those bars up top. Kind of a hot take but if you line up you employees with some good reason and logic that bar is not always gonna be right unless you only employ monsters in comparison to the positions stat requirement. For example lets say TornPlayerName has 330k work stats with 100k man 130k int and 100k endurance and your business doesn't need intel. You'd be stupid not to make him your manager (excluding big companies) but he will not be as efficient as he could be because intel is his main stat you and we should technically be utilizing intel from an efficiency standpoint.

Hi again ! and thx for the time and the reply ! me too i don't really want to have a 10* only if i get good offers for an 8*/9* with potential to go to 10*. My main business is to flipp companies. Buying small 5* companies with good perk at 7* then resell it, as i find that the ROI from buying and reselling companies is more intresting at my NW lvl i guess, so i could try to get into much better companies later on.

and yes i agree with you it's useless to have half ineffective employees and the other over effective just to get and overall effectiveness at 100%. as you said if an employee is it effective it will affect the sales so it's not worth for a director. i'll change it and add under the screen shot from the effectiveness of my previosu employees to explain that.

For the star up of a company what you said is true. I just put a rough estimation for players to understand that a company is not bond to rank up every Sunday, so they don't get depressed or disappointed if the company don't rank up. But it's true i should add more details and more info about it.
For unpopular companies ranking up is much easier than popular companies like an LS/ AN or even a candle shop. I had for quiet some time a 6* candle shop to make it rank up to 7* without ruining yourself it took a few weeks before it got to 7*.

Thx again for your insight !
