Posted on 15:07:35 - 20/09/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkDear Diary,
Today, we all laughed our booties off when we found out that D3vl thinks his farewell thread had upvotes because people were agreeing with his whining instead of happy to see him go!
At that point, our day was already guaranteed to be the best day this week, but then bogie put a little icing on that cake when he said that D3vl is like a dingleberry.
Can't wait to see what happens next in this wonderful thread. That's all for now.
Later Diary. Love you! Hearts!!! -

Posted on 15:22:03 - 20/09/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkOh woe me, people not liking product that is far worse then something that they already had beforehand? Imagine plumber just showing up one day and updating your home so only cold water comes out of faucets, you would be rightfully upset about it wouldn't you?
Now as for change itself, it is bad, no matter how you put it, the item one, its meh, some like it some dont, I dont like changes to how plushies look but its very subjective one, as for peoples profile pictures and galleries, its objectively bad, from images loosing resolution to having trouble with new cropping tool, there is very little good about it, of course its not and end product of the new system and we all hope that once finished it will be better then one we had before, but, some communication would be nice. Giving people heads up, calling it a beta and letting people opt in or out of it to test it would have been seen better by community.
With this thread we are expressing that this new change is affecting us in negative way and that devs would eventually do something about it, its not a hate post, just people being frustrated, a thing that sadly, very often happens when dealing with people, as someone whos been on receiving end of costumer service I do get it. Giving a some notes that things will change, what is overall plan would alleviate lot of problems people feel about these updates, hell, a roadmap would do a lot to ease people with these changes.
Overall, main worry is that people are worried that these changes happen and will remain as bad as they are right now, after all, "There is nothing more permanent then temporary solution." -

Posted on 15:23:26 - 20/09/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkThis is an update nobody asked for, and was not needed at all. Meanwhile there's dozens of threads in the sgguestion forum that get ignored.
This is different then them changing the in game images, we have no control over that. Our profile images our how we are able to express ourselves freely and we should not be hindered in that.
I enjoy and appreciate 90% of the updates here. If I want to complain about 10% of them I have every right to do so. I've donated enough money to this game to be able to complain. If you don't like it oh well. -

Posted on 15:56:06 - 20/09/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkMan, you all really need to relax a little. We're not total f**king morons here... Many old areas of Torn are being innovated upon with drastic improvements, this one in particular was upwards of 15 years old. We do this because we love Torn, because we want to improve it and future-proof it for the long-term. We're not trying to make things worse or make your lives more difficult. Just because one thing doesn't work quite as well as before, that doesn't mean you need to go berserk. We have a very consistent track record of listening to community feedback and quickly acting upon it, to improve on features after launch and fix the issues that different groups of the community complain about - that's why Torn is as good as it is now, and likely why you're currently playing it. You can trust that this exact same process will happen here too. Again, we love Torn, we want it to be the best it can possibly be - trust us, and have some patience. Just calm down, Jesus. I'm not enjoying this new era that we seem to be entering into, where everyone feels the need to cancel us with every change we make - that's going to get tiresome as there's a lot of changes on the way. If we begin to avoid taking risks due to potentially upsetting the community in any possible way, Torn's future will really suffer as a result. You are donating to the game, not buying shares.
My issue here is that you act ike they need permission from the players to change something.
It wont work, you can please everyone. -

Posted on 16:02:24 - 20/09/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI haven't gone berserk and you all are not cancelled. That would be silly. To put things into perspective; This has been an update that is unasked for by the player base. It took a process that was working well and made it clumsy to do. The end results are either blurred or have ugly black borders. There are no discernible positives from the player side of this. Personalisation matters in games; it defines us; the faceless player. It's our vision of who we are in the game. Many of us have imported personal pictures, memes or other work. Excellent artists have used their skill, time and effort to bring that vision to life for us. We have recorded our Torn Life in words of our choosing. Our attempts at visual self-expression and self-determination have been crapped on by The System ('Fight the Power' ;) Kindly put it right at your earliest convenience and have a lovely day. Ygaria_VarrI never said I had any form of control, but I am allowed to complain about whatever the hell I want. Whether I've donated or not. Which you say I shouldn't be doing.
"Like they need permission from the players to change something"
I don't know if you know this but the players make the game. Yes the devs build it, but without players there is no game. So I'm pretty sure the opinions of your playerbase do in fact matter. I bet all those bankrupt game companies thought the same thing. -

Ygaria_VarrPlayers are allowed to express opinions over changes. "If you don't like it then quit" is a dumb thing to say, because game owners don't want players to quit. Additionally, people are complaining because they want a better game to play, not because they want to quit the game. Complaints are an opportunity for the staff to rectify grievances.
In this case, it's obvious that the system should have been better tested before implementation, and the issues that people are identifying sorted out before ever getting to this stage. "They will fix it later" is not good enough, because it means that a system was released before the update was actually a finished product. But you are suggesting the devs should not be criticised for that because they work hard? They will continue to need to work hard to fix the shortcomings of ICS. So why was it released before the shortcomings were fixed in the first place? Was there an emergency with profile picture uploading that after 15 years it couldn't wait another month?

I was reacting to your "we didnt ask for this upgrade". -

Posted on 17:20:44 - 20/09/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkImplement the original system, problems solved. Noone asked them to "fix" it. Why don't they try looking at the 250+ rated suggestion threads instead. And I stand by that statement when there are all the ignored threads in the suggestion forum with the "right" amount of upvotes for them to be looked into and considered. Instead they push out this turd.

I agree people may complain. And in this case the complaints may be valid. But it sure will be fixed if anything is broke.
But people need to realise its very hard to see what a playerbase wants. Like the buttons, so much chaos and anger on the forums when the buttons were updated. But I am sure the majority wouldnt even care about those buttons lol. But you dont hear them on the forums screaming. -

Posted on 17:30:15 - 20/09/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkDo you see how you are talking? Ched is creating a game, and everyone is free to play if they want to. And you think Ched needs permission from the players to update something what is already 15 years old? Just take a break, if there are any problems, I am sure they will fix it. Nobody is dying. People just whine about freaking everything.. people went apeshit about some damn buttons. About some 3d images... Damn.. calm the f**k down people. Those devs are working their f**king ass off to create a game we play every hour of the day. And yet everything what they do isn't welcome here it seems. RELAX.Yeah feedback on suggestion forum isnt their best thing.
But also: these are suggestions. Even when they hit 400 upvotes it doesnt mean they have to implement the suggestion.
But they should give a proper respond to it, I agree. -

Why don't they try looking at the 250+ rated suggestion threads instead.Of course it is a paraphrase but when you say "Ched is creating a game, and everyone is free to play if they want to", the implication is "You don't have to play the game if you don't like it".
It may or may not be hard to foresee what players really want, but that's why responsible people give forecasts ahead of time, and beta tests when pushing updates.
You are repeating Chedburn's sentiments when you talk about chaos, anger, screaming etc, the same sentiments he had regarding 3D models. That only positive feedback is welcome and everything else is "unconstructive", "hysteria", "people who don't know what they're talking about" and in this thread - the only thread about the issue - "cancel culture" and brushing off complaints with "calm down", suggesting that people are irrational. Excuse after excuse after excuse why people shouldn't be listened to.
But the thing is that problem-spotting is a critical part of pushing updates to systems and when there is no public beta phase to get this feedback privately in advance then you are naturally going to get it on release, in the public forums.
