I've got the start of a cross-over between Star Trek and The Oliver that I had been thinking about doing :) DCDark had given me the name for the ship a while back - like, January, December last year... Here's the notes I'd put together for it so far!

The Zeta: Known by her crew as Lucky Number 7, or 'The 7' for short.

Run in Episodes, such as, 'The Zeta: Episode 1 - journey to the center of the universe'

You receive a flexi-screen note slid under your door. It glows a faint, electric blue with the symbol of a phoenix. You tap it to open the note, and the message begins.

The captain of the ship Zeta wants you on board for her maiden voyage. You will be joined by 5 other crewman. Your mission? To explore the galaxy

So! I have continued to work through this idea :) Since DCDark4 helped me flesh it out I wanted to wait util he's unfedded so he can take part. But, that may be a very long time - so instead this will launch sometime after the completion of the Far Lands RP :)

Strange2 is helping me in an advisory capacity! He already started with is post about potential pitfalls so I'll respond to those first.

1. This will take place in an melting pot sci-fi universe - we will draw from inspiration wherever we may find it :)

2. I'll be playing the captain, and veteran RP peeps will be offered set positions (Dr, Sci officer, Engineering etc - 5 positions total) I will be playing the captain and steering the story / ship but I love collabs!

3. This will take place on a single ship. I am nothing if not experimental, so we will have multiple RP threads going at once, representing rooms people can move between as their characters move throughout the ship (i.e. The Zeta - Bridge, The Zeta - Sickbay, The Zeta - Away Team etc)

4. This is not going to be a hard boiled sci fi, this will be loose and easy sci fi just like Star Trek or The Oliver etc. Emphasis will be on character interactions and solving the puzzle of the episode by working together as a team.

Sounds great to me! Don't know if you need to credit me when you are doing all the work though.

I suppose the only thing I'll point out is a logistical issue. I don't really see the need to divide it into multiple threads. That sounds like it could be confusing to my small brain, lots of clicking around to see where things are. Additionally, I feel it would clutter up the front page of the forum.

I do understand that one thread means posts can get buried but if we are clear on locations I don't think it'd be a large problem.

Certainly back in the day we had threads where people were on different continents simultaneously, so I think one ship and away teams should be manageable.

Sure, that's a fair option. The more I think about it, I'm not terribly concerned. A long as we are reasonably thorough in our readings and try to keep our posts clear, along with the ever important shooting a dm when confused, I feel it'll end up alright.

And I do worry about clutter a little bit, just because there are only so many spots on the front page.

Oh, and I like the ship on the left. The one on the right reminds me too much of the Enterprise. LOL

So... update. I spoke to Yazi, and he doesn't think he'll be coming back to Torn anytime soon :(. I'm sad about it, but it is what it is. Dark is still temp banned, and he is focusing on RL as well. I miss those guys. Great RP'ers. But I do hope they will return to Torn someday.

Also, I am thinking of using my stock perk to promote the RP forum with a graphic banner. Draw in some fresh, new blood. Muahahaha! Any thoughts? Things it should say or feature?

Better to focus on what you have then what you don't. There have been many times in this forum's history where we would've killed to have 7 active posters.

That being said, this forum has "died" many times, and does seem to come back after each of them.
