I sometimes don't like it though, because I may have my imagination going in one direction with a story, and then someone pops a visual and I'm like, "Oh. Well that's different." :D

A 4 man group can beat one experienced enemy no matter how better they are. That does nerf my character's insane ability to hit and crit due to him being squishy.

Level 1 DND characters can each handle (maybe) 1-2 goblins a piece. Once they gain experience/ proficiency in their chosen class(es), then they get powerful! My monk could handle maybe 2-4 low level enemies at level 5, at level 18 he could insta-kill a boss. So yeah, since all our guys are level 1, they'll be done in pretty easily by boars, wolves, or a couple of coordinated bandits.
