Re the Far Lands RP! Miche, 1429063002, Wood, and GrannySmoosh - This quick RP that took people out of their usual RPs so they could cameo together on a far off land was meant to just last a week! But here we are :D

Do we want to rush to an ending so we can get our characters back to their regularly scheduled lives, or do we want a few more twists and turns before we resolve this particular adventure? :)

We can have it as simple as Oh, look there we are yay lets go home! Or as complicated as crystals needing re-alignment or the Font of Magic currently being occupied by hostile creatures or people...or who knows what.

Whatchya think? Want more or ready to go home?

I think we need some more time in the Far Away. Percy and Anne seem to have things under control, despite Killer, Louie and Biggs shenanigans. ;) Also, I'm loving the Bath House RP! Great job on that one Akira!

I don't think i have a saying in this matter .

But I don't like the idea of rushing through, having fun is the main point.

Oh, thank you! I'm loving it - so much creativity from everyone. I'd been told it was a crappy idea with not enough juice behind it to go anywhere. It's been delightful to prove that wrong :)

Pine, another RPer, had started a pretty good space RP, but due to RL, the ship never really took off. I love all things 'outer space' and would be interested in joining something like that too. I'm just not so good at starting them off.

I've got the start of a cross-over between Star Trek and The Oliver that I had been thinking about doing :) DCDark had given me the name for the ship a while back - like, January, December last year... Here's the notes I'd put together for it so far!

The Zeta: Known by her crew as Lucky Number 7, or 'The 7' for short.

Run in Episodes, such as, 'The Zeta: Episode 1 - journey to the center of the universe'

You receive a flexi-screen note slid under your door. It glows a faint, electric blue with the symbol of a phoenix. You tap it to open the note, and the message begins.

The captain of the ship Zeta wants you on board for her maiden voyage. You will be joined by 5 other crewman. Your mission? To explore the galaxy

OR

Space Pirates, could always do space pirates, lets go steal shit Guardians of the Galaxy messy montage heist style

I like the first idea, but I don't really see the point of having it split up into episodes of player capped. I like the idea of a star-trekky journey of discovery, but the episode format was just so they'd have time to work on the next one. We can flow one into another. Maybe have it be mission, back to starport to resupply/relax, back out on the mission? Or maybe I'm just imagining you meaning episodes very formally when you've imagined it quite casually. I also suppose its your thread, so you can do what you prefer.

Anyways, I have seen a lot of space threads. Here are some pitfalls I have seen them fall into in not particular order. You are welcome to take any of them with a grain of salt.
1. Setting it completely within an establish universe: Alienates people unfamiliar, bounds RP within rules not designed for RP, generally limits creativity.
2. Being all on one ship, with no leadership: People argue over what the ship will do, ship ends up doing nothing
3: Being all on separate ships/planets/whathaveyou: Everyone meanders off to opposite corners of the galaxy, people lose interest.
4. Not clarifying your sci-fi. This is probably the most important, defining where the setting falls on the Space fantasy to hard sci-fi scale. Otherwise half the players are worrying about time dilation under warp, and the other half are force choking Gungans.

I swear I had more when I started writing this, but it is quite late here at the moment.

I've roleplayed in just one space roleplay before so I have barely any experience, but it was basically an Inn or tavern in outer space lol. There wasn't much to it as far as plot driving scenarios go but the social game was chef's kiss!

To add on to your mention of everybody being in one place versus scatter across the universe....what about some sort of competition or a two/three ships needed mission? Or even a race for treasure/bounties between two or three different ships. Maybe separate the characters so various developments and leadership can be played out but have the same goal?
