    Hey y'all!

Every day you see players getting tossed into federal jail for multiple accounts. Most of them are probably players who are trying to run multiple accounts, however a portion of the players intended to restart their account but failed to do so properly and ended up in federal jail.

Why you would restart is up to you, I'm not pushing you into restarting, I'm simply showing you what the process looks like and what you need to do in order to follow the rules of Torn.

Start by clicking on the miniature profile pic in the top right corner of the screen, then in the menu you can click on settings to go to the preferences page (not very consistent wording eh). In the very bottom of the preferences page you click on the close account tab and then you will see a red button CLOSE ACCOUNT - press this to begin the restart process.

Now your access to Torn is quite restricted. You can watch a timer tick down from 14d 0h 0m 0s and you have two buttons below it, one is to cancel the deletion process and return back like nothing ever happened and the other one lets you complete the deletion process. The button that completes the deletion process is grayed out until the timer hits 0d 0h 0m 0s.

You do have access to the chats so you can say your last goodbye, but as soon as you update the page or logs out the chat will be gone. You could basicly keep your computer running for 14 days so you never lose the access to the chats but since the chats are lost upon updating the page it's not really intended to be used in that way so use discord or something to keep in touch with your Torn friends for now.

Alright, so 14 days later you gain access to the delete button and once you press that your access to the account will be lost. For now. Not forever.

You see, when you delete your account you will get one last message from torn and it looks like this:

The account deletion process has now been completed for XXXX [XXXXX].

We've just emailed you with a confirmation, and then deleted your personal data from the account.

Should you wish to regain access in the future, we're providing you with a unique recovery key which should be kept safe.

This is now the only thing linking you to the sanitized account.

    XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

You can now create a new account if you wish.

Please be sure you only ever have access to a single undeleted account or you will be in breach of our rules.

    Thank you.
You are now free to create a new account, you may use the same email as before and everything will be alright, you can receive the news letter for 250E even if you used it on your previous account with the same mail just two weeks ago. So enjoy the new account knowingly that you will not end up in the federal jail for multiple accounts.

Okay then, say that after a year or so you miss your old account, then what?

This is where the mail you received will come in handy, on the Torn website you can click on the recover account button, then enter the recovery key and click okay and suddenly you find yourself in federal jail for multiple accounts since you now have access to more than a single undeleted account! Come on, lets do this properly shall we.

The same rules apply as before, so you need to do the 14 day deletion process on your new account and once you actually delete it you may do the recovery process to gain access to your old account.

    The minefield (aka Torn Rules)

So, you are not in federal jail for multiple accounts - that's great - however that's not the only rule Torn has to offer.

With a fresh account you notice that you have $750 in your pockets and that's it. That will not fund your first happyjump oh no... But hey, you are a clever one, you had billions of $$ on your old account so you sent the cash to a friend, waited 14 days, then told your friend to send back the money to your new account!

Hooray, hand in hand you two dance around with no regards to the large sign "WARNING! MINEFIELD! DO NOT ENTER" and you hear a sharp noise and the ground trembles and the next time you open your eyes you find yourself together with your friend behind locked doors safely secured in the federal jail.

Alright, so what you two did is called middlemanning and is against the rules. You are not allowed to intentionally transfer currency or items from your old account to your new. Sell some losses, go hunting or take pictures of your feet and photoshop in a gun and someones name so you can call it art and sell it for a billion (uh, ok maybe skip that feet part.. or?) or whatever legit activity you want to make some money.

So, what are you allowed to do with your old account then, can you attack it?

Yep, it's no longer considered your account so you may attack it, leave it on the street, mug it, hospitalize it and bounty it. Note though that if you mug it for unreasonable sums then the case can be made that you are trying to sneak around the rules and you will probably land in federal jail. If you want to know if it's fine to mug the target, toss ol' Bogie a pm and follow his advice.

Anyways, while your account is deleted it will count as being inactive, so it's a good idea to join a job where you are unlikely to be removed due to inactivity and also you will gain free refills so if you want to return every halloween to have a blast with 50 refills then that can be done, just note that every time you switch between accounts you will have to wait the 14 days to do so and this will not benefit your new account in any way, so this should only be done if you really enjoy the event.

    Best of luck!

Good guide for letting people know what not to do when restarting, but this ending paragraph kinda goes against all purposes of restarting as well as sounding really iffy. If I were planning to restart, I wouldn't even consider accessing the old account, ever. By switching accounts for event, you're effectively wasting 28+ days of your new account to return to the old account for some event attacks that have no intrinsic rewards since you'll be going back to your new account (which did not participate nor able to gain any benefit from the event) afterward anyway. This begs the question: why would someone even bother?

Restarting your account is wasting time and effort by itself, so if you are prepared to waste time by restarting it's not that far fetched that someone would be interested in wasting some more time to be able to enjoy an annual event.

It's not intended as something you should do to "win", it's merely an option thats availible.
