The more damage you make overall in the fight, the higher your chance of looting something becomes.

Is there a source for this? Never heard of it before, and just want to see clarification

    Scotty [531427]

In theory maybe but reality, this isn't true.

    cooksie [2152172]

Do you have a source for this? Considering the fact that "more likely to receive the loot" does not equal "guaranteed loot".
Well doing 70-80 odd npcs. Doing 75k-100k dmg on the majority. And only looting once. Managed to join the bunny 3 times doing over 200k dmg and one of the people who looted did 2 hits. So from my personal exp its just random who loots aslong as you make 1 damage hit you'll get entered into the lottery.

Great guide Hemi but needs a little update with the changing rules of Torn
With the changes to group attacks since you made this you need to wait for the counter to build up to get the distraction bonus and don't automatically apply for everyone in the fight anymore they have to make a offensive action before they count as being there and each offensive action you make resets the counter.
Hey there, thanks for your comment.

You are absolutely correct - in a normal group fight, you'd be waiting for your stronger buddies to make hits in between yours so you don't die right away.

In a fight as savage, greedy, and speedy as an NPC fight, the counter builds up on its own without much wait time. Before you can load your weapon to click it, 30 others have made a hit, and you're good to go again. In the off chance that your internet is really fast and as soon as your weapon loads you always see the numbers 1 or 2, a slight stall before hitting may help, sure.

In my opinion though, recommending people to wait for the distraction bonus to build up may cost them precious seconds that can be used for hitting, so I usually skip over that entire part.

In any event, I've added a section about the distraction effect, and updated an image of a more current fight.

Looting NPCs is one of my favorite things to do with my spare energy (rather, all my energy), so I've decided to put everything I know about this topic in one spot for reference.

Looting is when you and a group of people attack an NPC at the same time and take them down together for a chance to loot a variety of their treasures. At the moment, the only NPCs that can be Looted are Tiny, Fernando, Jimmy, Duke, and Leslie. Additionally, Scrooge is available to be looted during the holiday season, and the Easter Bunny can also be looted during April only!!!

    Possible Loots:

Tiny - Dumbbells, Six Can of Energy Drink, Can of Munster, Can of Red Cow, (more to come as fights happen)

Easter Bunny - Bunny Nose, Bunny Suit, Lucky Rabbit's Foot, Frying Pan, Ski Mask, Goodie Bag, Egg Launcher

Jimmy - Pixie Sticks, Jawbreaker, Concussion Grenade, Bread Knife ... TBC

Fernando - Feathery Hotel Coupon, Bandit Mask (clothing), Poison Umbrella (piercing weapon) ....TBC

Leslie- pair of Sweatpants, pair of Black Oxfords, String Vest (Clothing), Sand (Temporary), Riding Crop (Melee), Beretta Pico (Secondary), Nock Gun (Primary).

Duke- pair of Pinstripe Trousers, Classic Fedora, Duster (Clothing), Nail Bomb (Temporary) Madball (Melee), Homemade Pocket Shotgun (Secondary), Rheinmetall MG III (Primary).

Scrooge- Scrooge's Top Hat, Scrooge's Topcoat, Scrooge's Trousers, Scrooge's Boots, Scrooge's Gloves (clothes), Snowball (Temporary), Diamond Icicle (Melee), and Snow Cannon (Primary).

The quality of the loot depends on the NPC's loot level at the time of defeat.
From the moment they are out of the hospital, they stabilize at Loot Level I.

    NPCs have 5 Loot Levels.

    Level 1 to Level 2= 30 minutes
    Level 2 to Level 3= 1 hour
    Level 3 to Level 4= 2 hours
    Level 4 to Level 5= 4 hours

From the instant they are "Okay" it can take 7.5 Hours to reach Loot Level 5.
Level 5 holds the best chance for Looting more of the good weapons.

    Lvl 1 = 1 Looter
    Lvl 2 = 2 Looters
    Lvl 3 = 3 Looters
    Lvl 4 = 4 Looters
    Lvl 5 = 5 Looters

    Joining an NPC Loot Attack:

When it's time, on Duke and Leslie's profile, the Loot Level will be indicated as shown, except the I will be a IV or a V:

You will initiate the attack on them as you would on a normal player, and will be given the option to either start or join the fight.

Don't join too early (5 min+ before IV) or you might time out. (Here is what will happen if you hit too early when the NPC is not temp'd by the group).

Don't join too late (30sec+ after Lvl 4) or he will die swiftly. The lower their HP, the quicker they will fall.

On the bottom of the NPC fight screen, you will see their battlestat reduction %.
These will start at 100%, and decrease with each temp thrown.
Additionally, the Distraction Bonus may make a difference for you in timing your hits.

Here's a snippet of a typical NPC fight (excuse my lag).

Distraction effect is a fairly new change to group attacking mechanics.
To put it simply, the blue number that goes up is how many other people made a hit since your last hit.
The higher the number, the more distracted the NPC is, thus lower chances of him hitting you back directly.
In the image above, the only time I was hit back was when I clicked on my weapon when the distraction bonus was still at 1.
It is also clear that in between the time it takes to load the weapon image from one hit to the other, the NPC is already super distracted. When it comes to NPCs with lower total Health, I wouldn't recommend actively waiting for distraction to go up, because it will on its own, and because you can lose your chance at getting more total hits in/looting.

(More info on distraction can be found here and here.)

Keep in mind that NPCs still hit back when their stats are decreased, and no matter how strong you are, you might get killed and lose. If this happens, you can still receive loot (provided you landed hits with damage within the last 5 minutes before he died); if you're quick enough, you can med out and join again.

    Some helpful tips:

    • If you're low on the battle stat side, wait for stronger players to throw temporary weapons at the NPC, or wait for distraction bonus to go up. When his effective battlestats are decreased enough, proceed to attack (see visual above).

    • It is said that the more damage hits you land overall in the fight, the higher your chance of looting something becomes. The keyword here is still Chance. See this fight log: where someone gets a loot, from simply throwing a smoke grenade.

    • This means that your aim is to land as many hits as possible - use a meelee weapon when you are out of ammo and avoid wasting a hit on a reload.

    • If you stalemate and the fight is still going, you can choose to refresh and join again.

    • Keep a page open to your medical items in case you lose, med out, and join again.

    • If it says the fight is at max capacity, keep refreshing the page. Somebody will lose/stalemate, and you can join if you are quick enough.

    • Rinse and repeat this, in all of your fights, and you will eventually loot something!

When you loot an item, you will get a notification in your events that looks like this:

Additionally, it will be shown in the fight log after the battle is complete.

The hardest part of Looting is keeping track of when they will reach Loot Level 4, and joining on time!

If you're curious on when the next attacks are, you can find the exact times using this handy reference created by Kivou.
You can also download this script made by Lugburz to see loot times directly on your sidebar.

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, & HAPPY LOOTING!!!!

Even better for the extremely low stat new players then as it shows they have a chance of a loot drop, and can contribute just by using a temp such as pepper spray, smokes and flash grenades.

Helps them get into NPC attacks too even if they think they cant cause damage.

    All contributions do help.

    Cheers Hemi :)

Correct, if you get killed (within 5 minutes of him being defeated), as long as you contributed to the fight, you're in the running to get a loot reward. It's not necessary to hold your 25th hit to the very end, you can join once, do your hits, die/stalemate/whatever, and just keep refreshing the log at the end to see who looted.
