New York Style
Philadelphia Style
Chicago Pie Mush
Will go over each for the uneducated
New York Style - This is what most think of when they think "Pizza" big ol' slices most similar to Italian, and the stuff you get at Costco
Philadelphia Style - This is the other "Deep Dish" pizza, but with the sauce on the bottom where it belongs, cheese on top, and toppings above that. These are usually cooked in smaller sizes to prevent the cheese burning issue on top that the people in Chicago couldn't figure out before dumping a vat of sauce on top. Usually have a fair amount of sauce but a very thick layer of cheesy goodness with the usual toppings. If you order a larger one sometimes you'll find it's actually multiple smaller ones together, again to solve the cheese burning issue. These are often cooked in square shapes, and are objectively the best pizzas.
Chicago - Pie - They decided to ruin the good name of Pie instead of pizza, while pizza doesn't deserve to share a name with this monstrosity, neither do Pies...poor pies. - This is usually what people think of when they think "Deep dish" because of the heating, the cheese is beneath it, and the ingredients are in a vat of sauce. This is to cook the ingredients and melt the cheese without burning it because it's so thicc. This is again, basically a vat of sauce with drown out flavors.- Which Style Pizza is the best?

Posted on 14:15:45 - 27/03/23 (2 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkfor anyone interested, speaking of shape and thickness, the Philadelphia one is also a common version of pizza here in Italy and, at least in my case, it's the classic grandma's pizza.
not my favourite though, as i'm more on the New York style side, which is the norm of pizzeria's pizza which are based on the Naples style ones.
anyway those are just pale imitations of the greatest pizza ever, the Pizzolo (or whatever is called in the other countless places in the world where they have come up with it) -
