    2. Go home and use some plastic cup to measure amount of rice
    3. Pour into rice cooker thing
    4. Wash rice x2
    5. Put amount of water needed
    6. Place in the godly rice cooker
    7. Switch it to cook mode
    8. That is the way

Washing chicken spreads salmonella all over your kitchen where it would just die after hitting 165F*. Aside from whatever spices you use, hemoglobin is responsible for most of the flavor in all meat and washing meat removes/dilutes that flavor. If you dont want to eat dead germs and dont want to spead them all over your kitchen, wash your meat after you cook it. ?

Properly rinsing rice removes starch which gives you fluffier rice. Some people just prefer crunchy rice and their dentists love them. Rice is cheap and easy, and if you want good rice, splurge the $30 on a rice cooker. None of this minute rice in a packet microwave stuff. Thats only useful if you eat rice once in a blue moon.

*maybe, im not a scientist. Cook your food properly.

A rice cooker or just any pressure cooker, really. Or you could get good at cooking rice in a pot, I guess, but I haven't managed that yet.

    Absinthian [2263711]

Cooking it in a pot is really easy. Bring rice and water to a boil then cover and reduce heat to a low boil/simmer for 10 minutes. Turn the heat off and let it sit covered for 10 more minutes. It's basically following the rice cooker method but in the stove.

Don't lift the lid at all during the cooking process and you're good to go.
This exactly. My biggest issue with stovetop rice was timing; I let it run PAST the boil point before I turned it down and by then it was too late. Similar issues include uneven heating elements that produce too high or too low heat.

Another trick I've found is spraying the pot with cooking oil before putting in the rice and water. This helps.

While swimming through the forums, the controversial topic about cleaning chicken popped up…

which prompted me to have a discussion with my roommates about washing chicken.

It seems we are all on the same page - now it has come to my attention that some of my roommates

don’t clean the rice before cooking it … there are now new rules in place about cooking in the home. LOL.

I grew up using an electric rice cooker to make my rice, what do you use?

    OingyBoingy [2753672]

    Question though,

Do we need to rinse boil in bag rice?

Since when we boil it, we don't have to worry about it soaking up all the water before it's ready

    No.

Yes, and a fingernail amount of water above the rice usually makes for that perfect sticky rice in the rice maker.

I was my feet, brush my teeth, or take a bath if necessary. Then I ordered cooked rice online and wait.

    shyleenus [2772040]

ok , but hear me out - IT'S OVER $4 BUCKS FOR A CUP ( all the asian restaurants around me charge that ) with the amount of rice i eat, i'd go broke haha! i assume you either a: got it like that (im tryna get like you) or b: you don't a lot of rice

    BakaBon [294568]

I live in an Asian country where a plate of rice is less than half a dollar. With a dollar you can have a full stomach. (Rice only, exclude meat etc.)
!!!! that changes things! gosh i miss paying $4 for meals that last me days in thailand and laos! haha

I never really questioned why but yes I wash my rice. 3 or 4 times until the water isn't super cloudy. I've always told myself that we wash it to clean it off for w/e reasons may be.

Also, in Hawaii everyone has a rice cooker (pretty much 90% of our meals include rice as the starch). I'm baffled at the fact people cook rice in a microwave or on a stove. The only thing I knew about were those microwave trays of rice you could buy in the store.

Yall are animals for not using a rice cooker like a civilized person.

EDIT: I keep seeing it in the comments and I am legit trying this whole 'butter and salt the rice' before cooking it tonight. Hope it goes well with chili :D
