Moved to er... food and cooking.
Your friend is wrong, so very wrong.
I'll eat an entire apple, including the core, and people think that's a little odd... but kiwi skins... no... even I draw the line here.
Eating kiwi skins?

When I heard of it. I thought yeah, why didn't I think of it before? It's perfectly edible. No appalling taste. Nutritious. Easier. Cleaner.
I tried it once. And it's better with skin, because it's more fibrous in your mouth and richer taste. The flesh of the kiwi, is more sour and soft.
If you eat it whole, it gives you more to chew, makes it feel like you're actually eating something and fills you more.
You don't taste "hairs" at all. I don't understand how eating it without skin has become the standard way.
Maybe it comes from a time when fruit was not cultivated.
A lot of fruit in general, like the watermelon (see pic, bottom right), used to have much less flesh and less taste, and the skin often inedible because it was too appalling or not digestible.
It's also fun to just stand there with a kiwi and take a bite out of it and eat it like an apple to get a reaction from people.
I don't eat it any other way now. -

I would never eat the skin of a kiwi.. they're endangered!
I also wouldn't eat the skin of a kiwifruit.. too furry.
I live in New Zealand. Kiwi is the bird. Kiwifruit is the furry fruit. :D

I thought a Kiwi was what people called New Zealanders.
Kiwi = New Zealander
Kiwibird = endangered bird
Kiwifruit = furry fruit -

Yeah, kiwi is a nickname for a New Zealander. But it's also the name of the bird.
