I'd have to vote eggs. An interesting fact about potatoes though, they hold more nutritional content than the overpriced, unsustainable, ridiculously trendy, poop-tasting, saponin-covered quinoa that all those health crazed yuppies eat. I laughed my head off when I found out.

Hmm as a standalone I'd say potatoe. Let's see how many egg potatoe ideas we can come up with and tally. Obvi nothing gross although I suppose there are weirdos who like pickled boiled eggs?

    The mighty tato:

    Roesti

    Gratin

    Baked tato

    Mashed tato

    French fries

    Curly fries

    Country fries

    Tato salad

    Hash browns

    Tater tots

    Fried tato

    Grilled tato

    Bbq tato

    Tato chips

    Boiled tatoes

    Adding: Tato cakes

    Phil-I-P [2035498]

Potato all the way for me. Also:

    Parmentier potato

    Dauphinoise potato

    Potato fontant

    Boulangere potato

    Potato wedges

    Roast potato

    Duchess potato

Potato footballs (loved them as a kid)

    Potato waffles

Also, there is a wide variety of potatoes you can use, each with a unique flavour profile. From big Maris Pipers to Jersey Royals. King Eddies to Red Rooster. Cypress to Desiree. Sure you can get eggs from different animals, but most are frowned upon. I might change my ming if I can sample a Komodo Dragon omelette mind...

And good luck getting salmonella from a spud.

    Edit: More spud dishes
Doctor Roy Curtiss. Microbiologist. Invented a vaccine that prevents salmonella in chicken eggs, and is used on over 18billion chicken per year. Salmonella is fairly rare unless the eggs are mishandled, or come from farms that don't follow recommended vaccine schedule for chickens.

I happen to know him, which is why I know that lol. But with that said, you may not get salmonella from potatoes, but eggs won't give you solanine poisoning, so it's kind of a mute point either way. Almost any food can give somebody a food borne illness if handle improperly along the chain from farm to consumer kitchen tables

Back in the times of Carem and Escoffier each fold in the chefs toque, or hat, stood for 1 way that chef could cook an egg. A minimum of 100 folds were required before one was even allowed to wear the toque.

So the egg. End of debate.

Do fermented potatoes count? The Irishman's dilemma...
Irishman's dilemma: Do I eat the potato now or wait, so I can drink it later

OT: gotta go with eggs, beats it by juuuust a smidge

I voted for the egg, just for a yolk,

I think the potato will win though,

    The eye's have it.

    (Sorry couldn't resist)

Instead we can just get poisoned because potatoes make toxins when exposed to sunlight.

Voted for eggs but both potatoes and eggs are good...

Actually I’m craving scalloped potatoes right now.

Though is that with or without the skins. Because usually it is the skins that have most of the nutrition.

I'd say the egg is useful as a component ingredient with a few standout dishes, like omelettes, and the potato versatile as a dish in of itself.  From soup to pancakes, baked, fried, boiled, and fermented.

    Have a Great Day!

Why are the votes still even when the answer is obviously eggs?

An hour ago I was hungry af and didn’t want to cook so I made a scramble egg in 30 seconds. I can’t even peel a potato in 30 seconds.

    Yes, I'm mental.

    No, it's okay.
