For a week straight ive been waking up in the middle of the night. There's a red bulky humanoid standing by the edge if my bed or sometimes by my door staring at me, one time he walked towards me from my door and vanished right before got to the edge if my bed. Once this week there was also a black humanoid figure but he disappeared after a few seconds

Sleep paralysis does sometimes result in you seeing figures.

I suffered from sleep paralysis for two years - I would experience it three times a week.
    I often saw figures.

Then in 2011 it just stopped.

I get it once every 6 months now at most

After reading Communion by Whitley Strieber I had a dream that an Alien was at the foot of my bed and reached out his "extra long ET finger" and touched my toe. It sent a shock wave through my body and it woke me up. The Alien wasn't at the foot of my bed but my leg was numb to my knee. Freaked me the hell out. What else freaks me out is that I still remembered the name of the book... I read it when it was published! 30 years ago! I didn't recall the author's name... I had to look that up. I don't read books like that normally... it gave me the creeps.

It's not surprising. our memory is a weird device. if we picture a memory, even if it is not ours we can imprint it as our own.

and the memories we have are morphed over time because every time we recall the memory, it gets rewritten with the details we recall or add in as we try to recall it. I have to personal examples... I worked for a hotel chain and during hurricane Anthony I got a call that a woman was looking for a room and was stressed out because she was supposed to be heading home to Florida but was stuck in California because of the hurricane. Our town was sold out but I got her into an accessible room that we don't usually sell just in case we are overbooked. I was convention groups coordinator and wouldn't normally do personal reservations but she had my number because she was trying to coordinate a convention. It was completely random that I even got the call. When she got there she called my office and was really upset because she had just learned her house had been all but destroyed in the storm. To cheer her up I sent up a gift basket. Well... depending on who's story you believe she was either assaulted by the room service attendant or she made the entire story up in order to sue for money for a new house. Security had me write down my entire recollection of the event with times and all the details I could recall. I did. A month later they approached me and asked me to rewrite it out because they had lost it. So I did. I swear to you both times I wrote it, I put every detail I recalled and absolutely believed every detail I wrote. I recalled dialogue, timelines, the gift I sent, and what department I charged it to.

Years later when I was leaving the company the security director gave me a file that had both of my handwritten accounts in it. They were SOOOOO different!! The second one was so much more filled in with exonerating details for the company. I did not lie on purpose. I was shocked because I honestly with all my heart believed that my second accounting was completely truthful and almost identical to the first. So I asked a psychologist friend of mine about it because I just couldn't believe I could be so wrong. He explained that every time I remembered the incident I would probably add little "what-ifs" or "if onlies" to the story. Over time those little thoughts were embedded as [art of the memory of the event.

I also have a story that I have told a million times about my dad and his time in Vietnam. The only problem is that it wasn't my dad's story it was my Godfather's story... over the years I somehow confused who the star of the story was! I have complete memories of my dad telling the story!! it wasn't my dad... it was my Godfather! They both were in Vietnam and in the same service so it was easy to confuse them. Our memory is only as accurate as our last remembrance of it.

So... you read a story about extraterrestrials and then over time your recollection skews just a bit... you dream about it once or twice and all of a sudden it is imprinted in your brain. it feels real because it is a memory... it is just not an accurate memory.

Last night I dreamt I fell asleep at the wheel and almost drove my daughter and I into a lake. She got upset with me and said I'm always doing things to put her at risk like that. It cut deep and I felt immense guilt.

I wasn't watching a show which inspired this, I didn't eat anything funny before bed, I just had this dream which was really disturbing in how vivid and emotional it was.

I don't have a daughter. No children, single and am not planning a family, looking for a relationship and I haven't even dated or slept with anyone in quite some time. I'm not worried about having kids, I frankly don't think of them and they don't have an impact on my life. It was just a dream, no matter how real or deep it felt.

Anyone who has or anticipates having a child would probably read into this dream a lot deeper than I did and may believe it means something more. Nevertheless in this case it was just a dream.

Sleep paralysis may just be sleep paralysis, though usually people would describe the feeling of being unable to move before the figures they see. The terror comes not being able to move which leads to hallucinations about threats. The OP's experience seems to be centered around figures, not paralysis, but is so casual I don't think it's a description of anything more than a one time dream and they're extrapolating the experience to give it more awe. I could be wrong but that's what I am feeling.

All that being said, what is 'just a dream?' We and science like to pretend we understand the brain through and through, but there are several key elements we fail to be able to prove with certainty:

    1. Where does consciousness come from?
    2. Why do we need sleep?
    3. Why do we dream?
    4. Why do we go insane if we don't dream for too long?
    5. Why do all life forms sleep, including plants?

There are many speculations and even some strong educated guesses, but we do not have definitive answers to these questions. Disclaimer: some people will argue some of these questions have definitive answers, but no, definitive means we know for sure and the answers won't change. We understand a LOT about psychology, the brain and dreaming, but our science is still largely speculative on these questions.

Here is something easier to think about.

    Is it more likely;

advanced life from other worlds or dimensions visit average people repeatedly in the night and are never caught, despite slipping up enough to be seen multiple nights in a row,

    or

Our minds are complex things we don't understand and occasionally show us things we don't consciously expect to see?

Your sleep paralysis is being caused by the figures you are seeing, they are interdimensional beings and they have taken notice to you. have you been studying any conspiracy theories to anyone that may have some foot to it?

Your sleep paralysis are weird :p

Now, more seriously, i never had such sleep paralysis with dreams crossing into the real world. However, sometimes, i wake up and for 10-20 seconds i feel i can't move. And the worst is when this happens while the cover is on my head and i start feeling like i can't breath.
I know it's also a form of sleep paralysis but i HATE IT. I'm even conscious of the fact i'm having a sleep paralysis and start waiting for my muscles to start moving to get out of under the cover.

    Ever happened to you?

Edit: about normal dreams, did you ever dream of a video game you were currently playing? It used to happens to me at the time i was really addicted to games. I wasn't even dreaming i'm in the video game. I was dreaming that i'm just playing it XD
I would wake up and feel so awkward and question my life choices :p

Whenever I've had sleep paralysis, it's always involving a window.

I become semi awake and I realise I'm staring at the window in absolute terror and I can't move.
I think I'm usually expecting a face to pop up at the window or something like that. It never does, of course, and after a minute or so I'm able to come round enough to realise I'm being silly and/or turn away from the window.

That's happened two or three times in my life.
