That's right, good American muscle. I love the styling of these older cars. Chevy, Ford, mopar - I admire the beauty in all of them haha.

However I am very much a mopar fan above all.

I recently bought myself a 1972 Plymouth Duster (twister package). The car has a 3 speed in the floor with a slant 6. This will be changed in my rebuild. I do a bit of Photoshop work so I'm in the process of creating renderings of the car's paint that I am thinking about going with. This will be my long term project AND EVEN IF YOUR NOT AN AMERICAN MUSCLE KIND OF GUY, THERE IS SURELY SOMETHING RESPECTABLE IN THE RESTORATION AND PERSONALIZATION OF SOMETHING THAT WHENEVER YOU GET INTO IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE A KID AGAIN! After all that IS what it is about.

So i will post the ideas and concepts of my build as they come in.

The first one being the sluggish slant 6 will be replace with a hand built 440 6 pack. Disc brakes will be put on all around and the suspension/differential will be upgraded to accomodate the newfound power.

That is ofc the long term goals. I have yet to do all the metal and fabrication work to get the body back to its formwr glory. Hope you guys look forward to this build as much as i do.

Will upload the first set of pics tomorrow and then the rendering of the paint when I get that finished.

Feel free to talk about any car projects you have going (American or foreign). I look forward to hearing your car love stories!

So are you upgrading to the period-correct 340 or going with something else?

I am actually putting a 440 into the car. I thought about doing the 340 but as I have no intention to sell the car and I already have a 440 laying around, that is what I will be putting back in it. However, it does still have the original slant 6 that went with the car and I plan to hold onto all original parts so that if I do part with it or decide otherwise I have the ability to restore the car to its original state.

But yeah, the 440 is what I have my sights on.

Thanks haha. Its by far the most I have spent on a car and its the one that will require the most work. But when its finished it will hit a burnout like a knife cutting warm butter...

I'm really looking forward to it. Although my z project will be no more but the car is luckily staying in the family (I am selling it to my dad)

I am slowly working on the paint job rendering and once I finish that I may render or draw the seat design I am thinking about doing.

But as far as the build goes it is all ideas as of right now.

Got to save up a good bit of cash and then I plan on doing the body work, rebuilding the carb, replacing fuel pump/line, and servicing the breaks but then it will at least be a good looking, road worthy ride.

Once that stage is done it is back to saving up money until I can put that monster 440 into the car. When I get to that stage I will upgrade the suspension (front and rear), put disc breaks on it, and a whole load of other mods that will truly make this ride my dream car. In the end it will look stock from the outside but will be the ultimate sleeper on the inside.

Gonna be hell of fun! Also going to hurt the bank a little bit haha xD

You went for a great choice using a 440 in it. That's for certain.

That's the only problem with muscle, absolute money sink, but worth it in the end!

    I think im in love.

For a color, look for a race car green. My dad used to have a duster and it was sooo nice with that color. Another that looks really nice is the candy apple red. Something thats a real eye catcher.

Althought I am a TRUE CAR ENTHUSIAST, I will always LOVE my Jap cars from the 90's. BUT, the early 70's cars just make my pants wet.

Totally understand that. I have a 1986 Nissan 300zx for one of my toys but I will be selling this car to my dad to fund this project.

I was thinking of doing like a "sassy grass green" or gloss black with a white roof and a gold stripe (the original color of the car).

I will create a number of renderings so stay tuned and I will even mail you them if you wish.

I am simply IN LOVE with this car and what a bad ass stance it has!

I'm a Mopar kind of GIRL.

I've owned many 66 Dodge Darts. The sturdiest and lastest longing car ever built and almost bulletproof. But I broke one.

I've also owned several Mopar muscle cars. 1972 Dodge Challenger with a 340 , Hurst Pistol Grip 4 speed A-833 transmission, 1969 Dodge Charger, automatic with a 440 Windsor, 1969 Satellite with a 383, 1969 GTX with a 6 pack 440 (I've laid down 2 block burn outs with that one, sideways).

I would highly suggest you go with a small block motor if you drive twisty, mountain roads. The big block 440 just makes your car way too front heavy. Go with a 340 (if you can find one, last year built was 1973. The 360 isn't a bad motor but wouldn't be close to original).

Lemon Twist would be a better color with the black bumble bee racing stripe on the rear. Just my opinion!

edit: Almost forgot the reason I lost my license...my 1972 Dart Demon. 340 4 speed.

Just curious if you have the original build sheet for it. Take out the back seat and look under the springs, it should be there. That will tell you the exact parts that were used for your car. Including color, motor, everything.

Be careful removing it. It will be rather brittle.

Some good suggestions. I'm still working on the paint renderings as I can but trying to save up as much money as I can before going back to college (which means taking work when I can get it haha)

But I have contemplated the 340 as it would give me a bit more room. I just have the 440 that came with the purchase of the car as well as an automatic trans (which will be sold even if I put the 440 in it because it's not how I roll haha).

So I'm still looking at all the options.

I also have ordered a few parts to try and get the car driving on the slant 6 and when I get it running I will certainly share a video, although a s6 isn't anything to dream about.

Today I went and pulled of the carb of the slant 6. I decided that I would get it driving (so rebuild carb, check braking system, replace hoses, get new tires) before I progress in the build. From this point I will tackle the metal work.

Also I have been trying to settle on whether I want to go with a black interior or a white one. May even do a combination of the two. Really want to go white but worried with how dirty it may easily get.

    Any thoughts?
