The car is not a beast until tuned, a standard supra is pretty feeble, and the lag from the standard turbo/s is stupid and my mates lost races he should have won due to this. The only thing that makes the supra a beast is the tuning capabilities, the engine is extremely strong and can be tuned EASILY to serious power. It starts with good torque and will rev high enough to keep immense speed in each gear. But, big power in a supra isn't always ideal.
Like this one for example:

This Supra had only 820 bhp, but it had a smaller 1.8L 3S-GTE from an Mr2 in it, bored out to 2.2L. It sat further back and the weight was distributed even better with it closer to the middle, and a lot lighter. It ran pretty decent against the 1300bhp Veilside R34. It's still good for 200mph+. Traction wasn't an issue as the 2JZ lump due to the positioning and weight of the engine. I still believe it could beat 1100bhp+ supras to 170mph ish with no ease at all.
Also, a Supra... for rally? It has been done yes, but never that good. Stability of these cars with fast cornering was horrendous, they should stick to straight lines, or WIDE open spaces for drifting. Still, my dream car nonetheless.
I used to own a Nissan 180zx Turbo (S12 Silvia), the 1989 special edition one with the front spoiler and bonnet bulge. Only had 174bhp (135 standard) but my god it was a beast. Rigid body and superb looks just made me fall in love with it instantly. The way it took corners sideways too, didn't have to do too much work to it to keep it sideways and stable either, them cars are just built to go sideways I am sure!
