Demodex, are actually mites rather than lice.

Whats even more insane is that there are mites that have evolved to live everywhere..  humans, plants, soil, there are even species of mites that have evolved to live on insects.

EDIT: Lice have mites also

Working in health care has taught me many terrible things about diseases and human suffering. I have seen families with diseases such as Huntington's that have a 50% chance of passing it on to their offspring and many of the family ended up in long term medical care as they slowly died terrible deaths. Unable to eat or communicate and their bodies burning massive amounts of calories due to the constant movements that they had no control over. Ignorance is bliss sometimes. 

Mites are the lesser of terrible things.

In some species, such as dogs, Demodex mites can populate to the point of mange, which is potentially deadly. On humans, Demodex spends most of its time helping us out by eating dead skin cells, but they can over-populate to the point of blepharitis, an itchy, uncomfortable ocular condition.

So are they comensal or parasitic? That depends...in proper balance they're a friend, but if the cutaneous or immunological environment changes they can show their true colours as opportunistic pathogens.

Fortunately, they're quite easy to control. I don't spend money on fancy eyedrops. If my eyelids are red and itchy I apply a small amount of mild castile soap twice a day until the condition goes away. 

At least someone you know is getting some play.

Three men are prisoner in a cave with there arms shackled above there heads, they're whole perception of reality is based on the shadows on the cave wall in front of them.

Until one day one man is released and allowed to travel freely outside the cave.

Once outside his eyes burned from the light, he struggled to comprehend objects in front of him for what they were, instead drawn to the shadows they created.

Eventually the man's eyes adjusted to the truth of the world and he saw things for what they were.x
Upon the revelation the man went to the cave to free the other two men.

Sadly when the man entered the cave and stared at the shadows that once were his life he no longer saw what they were instead just illusions.

He insisted upon the men to come outside and be free, however the two men refused the truth and resorted to violence kicking the man away calling him insane, laughable.

The man left the two men prisoner inside the cave understanding there was no way of forcing the truth onto the men.
