YOU IDIOT! You have wax in your ears or what? I said no weapons and no armor, and you go out and use it anyhow. What, did you think everyone would hear bang bang bang and assume your car was backfiring? You made me lose my bet and lose face with my friends, I trusted you so much I even put my money on you! How do I get that back? I know: you transfer $250,000 to my account and we'll call it even. Or do you want me to send some of my muscle to convince you? Grrrr! If you were a horse I'd take you out to a field and shoot you in the face.
mission was :- Defeat Skar with no weapons or armor equipped
- Agent standing decreased
English isn't my language, so I think I missing something when teacher learn me about " and " and "or"...
I beat Skar with no armor but weapon equiped, then I failed the mission...
bug or something wrong or a bad programmed line...
I would get comments from admins about this...thanks in advanceLast edited by Evwa on 05:40:02 - 22/02/16 (8 years ago) -

You interpreted this as being a choice between:
1) using armor but no weapon
2) using a weapon but no armor
I sympathize. I can see how it might be understood this way by a non-English speaker, the "or" giving a suggestion of choice, in a programming language sense.
The mission summary might be better phrased as "Defeat Skar with neither weapons nor armor equipped", but then Duke is not exactly renowned as a model grammarian.<-- Please report this URL to -Clansdancer if you see it -->

Posted on 09:47:33 - 22/02/16 (8 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkEnglish is a strange language at times, but in this case the "or" is a continuation of the the initial negative in the "no" (such continuations are commonly used in "modern" english" as an abbreviation of traditional / grammatically correct "neither X nor Y" proposition), indicating that "you cannot have any weapon or armour equipped" (see - that just worked in the same way), as opposed to "you cannot have any weapon equipped, but you can have armour equipped".
Even if you're not a native english speaker you should have considered why it would even mention armour there if there was no restriction on it, so it should have rung a few alarm bells.Last edited by Butters on 09:52:17 - 22/02/16 (8 years ago)I like apples doo doo doo...

IMHO it will be less misleading (considering quite a lot of active players are not native English speakers) if the wording was:
Defeat XXXX with neither weapons nor armor equipped
Or am I wrong? I'm pretty sure some players already knew that English is not my 1st language, so I apologize in advance if I'm wrong.. XD -

But Torn has issues with that specific UK English (gonna assume that is UK-specific, in America we wouldn't say or like that) verbiage they use in multiple places. Just last night there was a pretty big issue with how they were wording some bets which made them incredibly misleading. -

neither weapons nor armor works
another would be to say be completely unequipped, or have no equipment -
