So i missed the delivery this morning. Damn heavy sleeper, although im pretty sure they just pretended to attempt to deliver it. Hopefully i get it tomorrow.

Decided to learn californication when it arrives, along with the solo. Seems a good solo to start with

Some bad weather near me has caused the delivery to be delayed until tomorrow. Pretty pissed off was excited to mess around with the new amp.

I did start californication though, doing the simple main riff then going to learn to add in the funky bass bit as im playing solo and it sounds cool

Yo! I started to learn about 20 years ago - just started with riffs I loved. Nailed a few, then expanded into a bit of theory. I would advise against a regimented practice routine of scales and the like - imo it makes a hobby feel like work, and who needs that? Go with the flow. You do you m80.

Thanks for the input! I dont really have a regimented routine, i just have a collection of songs and other riffs and noodles i know and i just play what i feel like in the moment, get bored then move onto something else or learn something new. Aslong as the guitars in my hand for atleast an hour a day im happy. I usually find myself playing for 2+ hours though

Got the amp yesterday! Its so pretty and f**k me its loud as shit. Was messing around with different sounds and stuff, however it just made me realise i gotta learn alot more to get the most out of it! Need to get more rock things down for sure.

Also ran through the californication solo, i know how to play it now just not very well. Didnt realise its so hard to get nice clean bends. Something im going to research and learn more about tonight!

All the way up to 11 hopefully and you get to agonize over which new pedals to add.

    Have fun!

Still playing. Havent really learned anything new, trying to perfect what i have so far. Ive really slowed down my playing, trying to get a nice groove going and trying to play with feel rather than instruction, its great, really lets me actually get some emotion out of my fingers.

F chord also getting much better. I can actually play barre chords down the neck with ease, its just the first fret i struggle to press down all strings. Working on swapping between F and C, finding that C is the easiest chord to swap with F as there is minimal movement compared to other chords.

Ronnie Wood is in the news over here a bit for cancer-free diagnosis.

Made me wonder if you've tried any open tunings.

    Gimme Shelter

Link is live with stud Mick Taylor, although he wasn't on the original release. Quite brilliant here.

And this thread depressed me.., total beginner here and still struggling to learn but if I can play any semblance of a tune after only a few months I would be chuffed. (Mate gave me his old fender for lols and I may as well use it)
Great read and following for updates.

Hey! I've been playing for over 20 years. I'm going to ramble a bit here.

I've had the privilege of learning from some excellent tutors especially when I started, and believe taking up lessons (be it classes, online, or books/dvds) can be hugely beneficial for motivation. No matter how you are learning though, always set yourself goals! You could say "today I want to be able to transition from a G to F smoothly, or, I know how to play the Crazy Train intro riff and now I want to learn to play the chorus within the next 2 weeks".

My first year consisted of learning basic songs and riffs; last kiss, and killing in the name come to mind. This got me familiar with reading chord charts and tabs. Learning different strumming and picking patterns help with rhythm. Throughout this time (and beyond) I always had one or two easy songs on the go to balance out more technical material that can be exhausting.

When learning any phrase, start slow until you can nail it. Increase by 4-5bpm then repeat until you can play the phrase at full speed with no mistakes. It's important to be honest with yourself here.

Overall, it's important to be having fun. Make sure you are stretching your boundaries but also ensure you include songs that you want to learn. A bit like Torn, learning guitar is a marathon. Keep up consistent practice (30min a day is better than a couple of hours once a week etc.) and you will be greatly surprised at what you can pull off.

Yer So Bad has some quick changes. 100% agree to slow down until it gets comfortable before going full tempo.

Not sure if it's been said yet, but I had to learn how to not squeeze the neck so hard.
