Been a minute. Recently had a vacation, took my acoustic along and managed to play a little, even played for my family abit which was cool i was abit drunk and rusty but they enjoyed it anyway and it felt pretty good to play infront of more than a couple people, maybe would have been much more nervous if sober lol.

Slowly starting to get back into the groove playing some more, im out of practice and my fingers are soft again lol, usual cycle.

Got myself a project though i wanna learn the acoustic intro to fade to black, started it about an hour ago and it feels pretty decent already, alot more practice required though.

Tribute sounding good and fade to black also, really chuffed with myself.

Lets talk about strings! Acoustic is needed, been playing tbe guitar around 8 months and its the strings from factory, Daddario EXP16 strings, nice sounding strings but very rough on the fingers, i put coated strings on my tele and i like them alot. So thinking od going for the Daddario XS strings in a light(12/53) guage.

    What strings do yall use??

Started learning Just got paid - ZZ top. Really funky awesome riff but actually pretty tough to try get down and accurate, will be a good thing to learn for me though, will help me with my solo and rhythm playing technique

I put Ernie Ball Md/Light 80-20 on last time, but it's been a brutal year at work so once again I'm finding excuses to be out of practice.

Can't say I like them any better or worse than D'Add strings.

I tune a half step down since it fits my ear, esp on the high B/E

re; gauges. I play all range of gauges. Eventually when your hand strength builds up/dexterity (maybe it has since first post), you can start exploring different gauges for different sounds and tone- or can just stick with one that’s comfy. Usually heavier gauge are naturally suited for tuning down, and sometimes lighter gauge for other way (played a guitar that was tuned to open B with a custom set of strings to be able to tune the guitar up to that). Either way I’m a big advocate of finding personal tone and feel through strings/technique and hand strength/dexterity before lathering on the effects.

-I have a strat that I keep half a step down tuning (Eb) with Earnie ball .013/14 gauge high E String to .058 low E. Big fan of SRVs tone. This one I really need to keep playing to keep callus built up to play it. Sometimes I do need to use a bit of super glue to keep skin together but it’s worth it for the sound. No doesn’t hurt my fingers. This guitar I play clean, only slightest bit of an overdrive through a tube screamer pedal. The mid range thick tone definitely comes from the strings and fingers with this guitar, action on guitar is higher because of the thicker strings

-Have an acoustic which always has d’add exp 17s - used elixirs in the past if I know I can’t change em or if I take it travelling

-have a modded telecaster with humbucker up front that I usually just put Ernie balls/GHS/SIT strings on it ( go as low as .09 High E if I’m playing Zeppelin/rush/rolling stones or other rock stuff, but right now I have .010 - .050 on there playing in a lot of drop C/B - messing around with some metal music and other industrial sounds like Rammstein.

Depends on what I’m feeling at the time but the strat def takes some time to get back into if I Stop playing it.

I honestly havent played much at all, been spending far too much time playing games on my PC haha. I did play a little at the weekend but my fingers are pretty soft now, il need to kick myself in the ass and get playing more again soon. Just been enjoying doing nothing after being so busy for the past half year

I've been playing guitar on and off for over 20 years. I am mostly self taught and always hit walls and ended up stopping for a few years. I'm not bad but could be a lot better if I stuck to a practice schedule. Also I was a heavy gamer for years but quit it to read and play guitar more.

The other year I got 8 guitar lessons and it opened up everything. Now I understand some scales and a bit of music theory. I can jam along to any track in key. That's all I ever wanted.

My advice would be to get some lessons. You could figure it out on your own with YouTube etc but personally I struggled with music theory online. I need to ask 100s of questions to help it all make sense.

I'm about to book a block of lessons for this year because I have a lot of questions and I don't know anyone to jam with. My guitar teacher has a very similar taste in music and around my age, so he's pretty cool to jam with.

Never give up. Its a skill for life.

Hoping to get playing again soon, had kind of a crappy past few weeks. My girlfriend lost a close relative, so thats been abit tough and busy to deal with and One of my dogs died, he was 14 though and there was no sickness, kind of sudden, he seemed like he would live for a couple more years atleast. Ofcourse i have been working alot, work has been crazy, i work in a hospital and its seriously over crowded right now, alot of stress.

Hopefully soon things will calm down abit and i can get myself playing again for proper, i have picked up my acoustic and played little bits here and there but very scruffy, i have everything down mostly its just sloppy as helllll and my god my fingers are killing me after 5 mins. Il need to start on my telecaster for a couple weeks before going at the acoustic
