I'm interested to know who everyone thinks is the absolute best guitar player.  Doesn't have to really be "the best," just someone you like the best, otherwise everyone would just say Eric Johnson.

I'll say Fred Mcdowell.  Although he was always against Rock and Roll, whether he likes it or not he helped influence rock and roll forever with songs like Good Morning Little Schoolgirl.

    No doubt.

2 of the finest in the world will be onstage together late this year.

Jimmy Herring and John McLaughlin. I've seen Herring solo, with Panic and with ARU and he will not disappoint. McLaughlin is other-worldly and will be his farewell US tour.

In my heart, the best will always be Jerry Garcia.

       - Never saw 'Schoolgirl' live, but Jerry played it in the early years

Yeah, I really like Jerry Garcia.  Sadly my two favorite songs of his aren't even his songs!  Whiskey in the jar is an Irish folksong and Knockin' on Heaven's door is Gun's and Roses I think.

Written by Bob Dylan. But covered by several artists. Clapton for sure, as well as Garcia and GnR.

Cocaine, also a cover song written by JJ Cale.

Cale is worth your time to listen, he rarely toured but wrote some great songs

I'll pop back here later and link a really good vid, but it's a whole set if you have the time

Two different styles. I rather like Clapton's version, a bit more fuzz in that hard down beat, and Clapton does love to growl when he sings some songs.

Here's that link, but it's a full set so save this for when you have some time. There's likely two other very well known songs Cale wrote that may surprise you, but I won't spoil it here...

I'm actually pretty surprised.  I think I like Cale's version better!  It's got a bit more funk in it, while Clapton's is hardly reminiscent of it.

There are many, many I would call great. Joe Perry is no exception.

The added bonus there is how well they fit together. You don't last that long without a good relationship.

Yeah, I am pretty sure there were a few different people who played in the band at a single time for Aerosmith.  I've just always thought that Joe Perry played the more prominent roles in their songs.

Is it cliche to say Jimi Hendrix? If he was still with us, imagine what that could have done to the whole industry.

Plus, he could play with his teeth.
