    The Travel Cost tree in the faction Excursion branch is arguably entirely useless considering that anyone who knows what they are doing, and flying regularly, are using PI airstrips to fly at a minimum.



    I would dare say that probably no faction out there would have this tree set. There might be a off-chance that some faction actually has this as an option, but I do not see why there should be because even the Standard cost of flying is miniscule.

    The suggestion thus, is to consider changing this to Travel time reduction instead. It could be 2% per level, up to a maximum of 10% travel time reduction.

    If 10% is "too much", even 1% per level up to 5% works, which would makes this tree a more viable option instead.



    If you like flying, then this would greatly help you in your flying journey.

    If you don't like flying, it still helps you because FASTER REHABS!

    This should be on top of any flight time reduction due to airstrip, WLT or BCT.

    Immediately this sounds like an obvious and easy win. I myself have thought about travel time modifiers in the past, even in relation to this exact scenario. However, it's never felt quite right to me...

    I've always been against adding additional modifiers for travel time over the existing four methods, something there makes me quite uncomfortable - it doesn't seem right, when we already have the four different travel methods and many modifiers for travel capacity. I feel like this clashes quite poorly, but I can't explain why exactly.

    I was thinking I could get behind a small 5% travel time reduction, but after some thought that still feels wrong - any direct modifiers to travel time do. Maybe I fear this will close off potential future update ideas, or maybe it's because it feels like there's already the maximum amount of things effectively modifying travelling (Travel time with different methods + Travel capacity modifiers). Maybe it's because I already feel that travel times are as quick as they should possibly be - and mustn't be reduced any further.

    This really was just meant to be a filler upgrade, it wasn't even meant to be useful currently - maybe it will be in future systems. It's currently there literally just for flavour, to fill out the branch a little. If factions aren't upgrading this, I wouldn't call it an issue that needs solving.

    Of course at the time we were designing faction trees, we had discussions whether to add a 'travel time reduction' branch, and we didn't back then.

    If players really want it to be removed for some reason, or indeed if there are any different ideas relating to travel upgrades, we can arrange that, but I can't get behind replacing it with this. Sorry I cannot provide more of an answer.

    This should be a general up to X% across the board, which then makes it such that factions would actually have to consider whether this might be a viable option for them to spend some respect on. I think even a slight flight time reduction would make it much more relevant than the current setup.

    Definitely a more useful option. 
    Even the factions with less respect and generally members that would potentially benefit from this, would be putting their respect into steadfast and toleration before reducing flying costs.

    The only drawback I can see with this is that players who are going for the ‘time spent in the air’ merit will be a little annoyed as it would now take them longer to achieve if this branch was active. I guess it’s a toss up between making money by bringing product home quicker and spending more time flying. 


    It’s a good suggestion and I can see where it can be helpful. But maybe it should be refined a bit.

    They'd still get it anyway. Will still be spending the same amount of time in the air, but they get slightly more "income" from flying.
