as everyone knows, you can not send money to players with your own IP, for fear of multis or playing against torn rules. the only problem is that when players refer other friends or family in the area, they might want to send them a LITTLE cash to help start them out, so heres what i'm thinking. this might not work, but wouldnt it be acceptable to send a very small amount? (1mil maybe) this amount really wouldn't help them much in the long run, but it is a big deal for a new player. it will keep them interested in the game, and would add more players to the torn community.

at this point i see many flaws, this was just something to think about.
    discuss.

does that mean you have time to do 4 sluts on every one of those 2,930 cousins?

You would have to make 2930 different accounts and make 1m on every one of them, realistically that is not possible or worthwhile.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they keep laughing, then they start choking on their laughter, and then they go and catch their breath. Then they start laughing even more.

I would not mind if they made it 10 mill per month even, not like cheaters would benefit much from that until they got going in the game anyway.

Don't really care much if they implement this or not, but I can see why it would be usefull for some.

See the problem with this suggestion is if you let the established player avoid the IP block to send 1 mil to the new player then it would have to work the same way around where the new player can send 1 mil to the established player and avoid the IP block, this doesn't sound like a problem at first but if someone creates 100 accounts for their "aunt/cousin/brother/girlfriend/sister" then all they have to do is sell all the energy they already get from their 10 free refils for sluts and then send the cash to their main established account and don't try say they wouldn't do it because it isn't "worthwhile" because I seen a guy spend all weekend a few weeks ago create over 100 accounts just so he could spam global. On top of that how are staff suppose to police it? they would have to start checking every transfer log manually. Just live with the IP block, loads of us have been living with it for years and seem to be managing just fine.

Good advice is worth more than 1m in starting off the game. If they want money the option to donating is always there.

There is just no way this wouldn't be abused in some way.

    I like the idea.

The person who recruited me to torn gave me a DP and much cash to get started, if it wasnt for this I would not have continued to play torn. This advantage I received should be irrelevant of IPs, so put a limit in like OP suggests. We all know this game is littered with multis that are never caught out even with multiple reports and proof, so why not let a few new players get limited and regulated assisstance for the benefit of themselves, the torn economy and community.

I suffer from an IP block with my wife - I had 2 choices,

1/ make her a recruit of one of the many players who help recruits or
2/ make her my recruit and avidly encourage her progress!

I chose the second option, with advice funds can quickly become available (IRC and elsewhere). But the first option is available to those who want some quick cash.

I understand that there is a system that makes it impossible for a player to make several accounts and pool the money. I believe certain restrictions should remain in place, however, the number of people using university or other (semi-)public networks is increasing.

I would love to recruit some of my real-life friends, fellow students and family to Torn. Within the current system, I am doing the exact opposite because I would hate to risk penalties for using the same IP address.

Wouldn't it be possible to use a new type of restiction that allows friends to share while still making it impossible to create an army of multi's and abuse this. For instance:
    - Accounts with an age under # days cannot trade over the same IP,
    - The refills for starting players cannot be used for attacking,
    - Use donator payment info to determine wether an account is unique or not.

These are just some ideas. I hope this will give you something to think about and maybe work out a solution.

This is just a bad idea all around. The block is there for a reason. It is unfortunate that honest players are negatively affected by this. But the problem is the people who cheat not the system in place to prevent them from cheating. If you do not like that her keep that in mind in the rest of life of how things people do affect other people.

If you were to give a bit of a leeway like that it would be abusable.

    I fully agree with this.

I fully understand things like multis must be stopped, but its a true shame it denies honest players from possibilities. Also it counters the whole social aspect which kind of naturally comes with online group based games.

I think these suggestions are a really good starting point for setting up a system where multis would be made impossible, but options for friends/relatives/partners etc remained possible. Especially the part with the donator status. If players register 2 accounts with payment details, that pretty much proves they are 2 different natural persons, and therefor there should be no problem for allowing interaction between them.

It seems very highly unlikely to me someone who would be willing to create multis, would have acces to 100 different bank/credit card details.

Im curious to other peoples thoughts on this.

Isnt that a bit the world upside down? So because people cheat, we cant try to come up with solutions which would prevent them from cheating, but dont denie others from possibilities?

Also, how would that be abusable? I think payment details are pretty much the nr1 method of assuring players are natural persons for any company/game/purchase/transaction? So why would this be different for this game?

How accurate is the IP blocker? It blocks me from buying from a person in Turkeys bazaar. I live in the US. Seriously flawed.
