The problem with going to youtubers for your confirmation bias, is they are also biased. Wonder how many edits there was to show this... Imagine all the people that didn't say this was offensive on campus, and did say it was in the hispanic neighborhoods... What is the point of this? Just to show how easy it is to gaslight people? Is this what counts as a researched study in this day and age? Are all students guilty of misunderstanding what cultural appropriation is because six Mexicans disagreed with six students on a phone recorded video? f**k the scientific method, school would have been so much easier if we'd have been able to use the YouTube method instead. Actually, I thought he was just silly. It wasn't offensive or "normal". It was obviously an act. But then, I'm older. The first group who were offended were all young students. The group that thought it was ok was all old men. What's considered offensive versus ridiculous often lines up with a generation and their cultural views. But I'm guessing you're not looking for a real answer.

Well, I am actually Hispanic. Not Mexican, but closest to it here. I don’t care. Go off. I have a ruana and my dad has an old hat that wouldn’t go amiss on that dudes head. It’s fine, and if that’s what someone wants to wear, great! Share around the culture. The problem arises when it is down our of bad faith, like in the case of the video, or if other people who are relevant to the culture don’t like it. White saviours aren’t exactly the most qualified but still, take their opinion to mind as you are around them. Now, if someone else from my country didn’t like some gringo wearing a ruana or a poncho or whatever, then good. They’re allowed, and it’s valid. Just like I don’t think me wearing a kilt and pulling off a awful Scottish accent would be liked by every Scotsman, but maybe some would find it funny.

My mental health improved and I started reading books. I've only been left wing for like a year and half of that was as a pseudo leftist socdem breadtube type. Thankfully I got past that when I stopped getting info from YouTube and started getting it from more rigorous sources.
