What do you guys think of the San Francisco mayor going out to the nightclubs and not abiding by their own city's mask mandate? It appears that California politicians have a habit of not following their own mandates that they set forth to their citizens (see: Pelosi at the hairdresser, Newsom at the French Laundry)

Do you think politicians are above the rules for us lowly citizens? Do you think the rules have gone above and beyond what is absolutely necessary?

    No whataboutism, thanks

I've been encountering maskless of late. They are intentionally trying to frustrate others, by not only going maskless but intentionally coming up and brushing up against you and trying to inspire a confrontation.

Folks don't realize how close they are to serious injury when they do so.

As someone who has a compromised immune system, with two children whom also get sick rather easily, I have worn a mask throughout all of this, even when NY was lifting the mask requirements and everyone was falsely claiming to have been vaccinated in order to go maskless in certain places. I declined the vaccine when I was put ahead of others due to my health status, and I declined it when it became available to everyone, but I will not lie about receiving it just to go maskless and potentially get sick or get others sick. I can't speak on California specific policies and mandates, but I know NY has been pretty crazy with a lot of overstepping all over the place. I think the way politicians around the U.S. flaunt their disregard for laws, policies, mandates and general decency is abbhorant. This goes far beyond, and started way before COVID. They do whatever they like with no real recourse, only to be re-elected term after term, perpetuating a cycle of corruption and abuse of office. Authoritative powers are abused from city council positions across the country all the way up to the top, President.

Many politicians are and have always been hypocrites now and in the past.

Some of them are arrogant and disrespectful.

The power goes to their heads and they do whatever they want to do.

Left wing, right wing, politicians in the middle. Some of them are just arrogant and it has always been like this.

Sometimes the arrogance is really really bad ie corruption.

Forum signatures make my eyes hurt so i have turned them off.

A year later y'all are still on about one guy not wearing a mask once lol. Must not have anything substantial on him.

Meanwhile a metaphor for basically every week in the republican party...

Good to know you're OK with double standards. This post isn't about one person. This post is about all politicians not following their own mandates.

Please keep the thread on topic.

"not following their own mandates that they set forth to their citizens"

did she make that mandate? if yes thats for sure hypocritical.

Like CNN that right wing facist media outlet telling lies about her

Washington (CNN)San Francisco Mayor London Breed is defending herself after flouting the city's indoor mask mandate, criticizing "fun police" for raising questions about her recent appearance at a live concert where she was seen dancing and posing for photos without a mask on.

In video shared on social media, Breed, a Democrat, was seen last week dancing and singing along during a concert at San Francisco's Black Cat nightclub, where members of the R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné! were performing. In one video, a maskless Breed can be seen dancing for more than a minute without a drink or food in hand, and photos show her posing maskless with attendees and some of the artists.

Breed is not the first California Democratic official to make headlines for violating their own Covid-19 guidance. Last year, Gov. Gavin Newsom attended an unmasked birthday dinner at the elite Napa Valley restaurant The French Laundry while urging Californians to stay home and avoid gatherings outside their households to stop the spread of Covid. Newsom, who later apologized for attending the dinner, went on to survive a recall election last week that was instigated in part by the imbroglio.

Here's an extract from a novel (science fiction), "The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson.

Ask yourself, is it worse to have high standards, try to meet them and occasionally fail?

Or is it worse to have no standards at all (and thus always "succeed")?

    Excerpt:

"That we occasionally violate our own stated moral code, Major Napier said, working it through, does not imply that we are insincere in espousing that code.

Of course not, Finkle-McGraw said. It’s perfectly obvious, really. No one ever said that it was easy to hew to a strict code of conduct.

Really, the difficulties involved—the missteps we make along the way—are what make it interesting. The internal, and eternal, struggle, between our base impulses and the rigorous demands of our own moral system is quintessentially human.”

—Neal Stephenson, The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer (2000)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Diamond_Age

Here is a larger passage, for context:

It's a work of fiction...? Your comment makes zero sense as related to my post.
