The words "collateral damage" is literally marketing, because it doesn't sound as bad as civilian casualties, people literally thought about this to make it sound better than it is and got paid for it.

    Bush did it
    Obama did it
    Trump did it
    And Biden does it.

    Styledcurve [2493033]

Their is an ocean of difference between civilian casualties and targeting civilians purposefully.

We do that. It is sick and I disavow it , yet I'm aware of just how freaking often we do it. At home and abroad.
The result is the same, there is no excuse.

The US has 'carpet bombed' since world war 2.

They claim to be more 'disciplined' in their target selection now.

They do try to 'do the right thing' But they still have it wrong. Big time.

The US screwed up vietnam so bad it isnt funny big time. Their carpet bombing was a big injustice. All this time later there are still people getting cancer because of agent orange. Not so good.

I saw a news article a number of years ago. The US has dropped more bombs in afghanistan than they did in vietnam.

The US carpet bombed afghanistan. And there was little/no target selection ie making sure they bombed the bad guys instead of civilians. Not so good to say the least.

When the US 'select targets' to bomb a lot of the time they really dont have a clue. They are just hoping its a 'good' target ...

Some of the time they do get the right target. Other times they dont ....

More civilians died because of US bombing in Afghanistan than died in the actual fighting on the ground. A LOT more ...

    It isnt good enough.

I live in the UK. The US's attitude towards 'collateral' damage overseas IS NOT good enough. Nowhere anywhere good enough..

They carpet bomb to get 1 or a few bad guys and kill 50 civilians when doing it ..

    Pathetic.

Guess if you're the top dog no one can stand up to you

I am english and i like the USA.

But their attitude when conducting 'military adventures' overseas stinks BIG TIME.

It just isnt good enough at all.

Imagine what someone who doesnt like the US feels .....

Terrorists dont grow on trees .. They are brainwashed by 'preacher' men to 'fix' injustices which are happening... ie lots of civilians dieing...

Since world war 2 every US 'military adventure' has ended in a LOT of people being VERY unhappy with the US.

The US should just back off and maintain a defensive position. NO 'adventures' at all because it causes more trouble than its worth ...

    Al-Naqib [2248212]

This airstrike just radicalized someone though. We pretty much just saw the birth of a new Taliban fighter.

    dunmugmeh [538353]

It will be used in 'recruitment' videos for years .... The same with many other incidents which received less/no publicity ...

The US are shooting themselves in the foot every time they act without proper intelligence ...

The US did carpet bomb Afghanistan.

They where trying to get the right target when they launched that attack. They got it badly badly wrong ....

Imagine how bad their errors where when they where just 'hoping' to get a good target ...

They launched hundreds/thousands of bombing missions because 'it looked right'

Most of the people who died where civilians. 10s of thousands of them ... maybe more.

Its not good even thinking about it ...

    EddieLee706 [1591144]

    Military intelligence is a joke.

Those at the top of the pyramid call the shots.

The military pulls the trigger and drops the bombs.

If they want to kill folks with no impunity. There is nothing that can be done about it.

Have to bring "democracy" to everyone.

The US refuses to be a member of the ICC, but demands other to play by its rules.

Like you said, it's nice to be the big dog until you've bitten off more than you could chew. US is/has been declining the past 20 years and will be replace on the totem pole soon.
The US have always been far too 'aggressive' when using their air power. This has always been the way since world war 2.

They drop the bombs so they dont have to send soldiers in on the ground.

They do really try to hit a good target with their bombs. But a lot of the time they are just hoping to hit a good target ... They think they know what they are bombing and in all probability they do hit a good target. But sometimes mistakes are made in haste or they are just guessing.

There is a lot of arrogance going on. Most of the time they do hit the right target. But 10-20% of the time they dont. Lots of innocents die when they get it wrong ...

They like to take risks with target selection. Because they think its fine to take risks because its happening thousands of miles away from home ...

I briefly mentioned Vietnam further up. What went on there was NOT good enough to say the least. Gung ho. Carpet bombing. Agent orange is still causing cancer and birth defects today.

The US carpet bombed Afghanistan as well. A lot of it on hope of hitting a good target.

I wouldnt be surprised if over 100000 civilians died in Afghanistan due to the carpet bombing.

Risky missions to get the bad guys despite civilians being there.

    • 2007/03/04 - Shinwar Shooting - A US convoy was attacked by Taliban, while fleeing they shot at virtually everyone for a 25 km stretch, killing 19+ and injuring 50+ including children under 10. Journalists who came to take pictures were then threatened by the US soldiers, "Delete them [your photos], or we will delete you". The investigation concluded that they acted appropriately, and were even rewarded with ribbons and a Purple Heart.
    • 2008/08/22 - Azizabad Massacre - A "victory" as proclaimed by the US, killed 90+ people including 60+ children. US security contractor ArmourGroup, supplies two criminals with money and weapons in exchange of security. They started fighting among themselves for control of money and weapons. An airstrike was called on these warlords which resulted in a bloody massacre. US initially claimed ONLY 5 civilians were killed.
And these are just a few.

    Stop the ethnic cleansing.

When I first heard that they had discovered and eliminated the person responsible for the airport bombing at Kabul in less than 48 hours, I was immediately skeptical. They had either (A) known it was coming and did nothing to stop it (which has happened in the past with the USG), or (B) recognized how bad the situation made them look and quickly tried to find a scapegoat with possible ISIS-K ties to pin the blame on - this way it's damage control because they get a "win" out of the deal.

Instead the USG kills an aid worker and his entire family due to insufficient intel and firing from the hip because they dropped the ball and the world took notice.

As i discussed further up. The US has always been far too gungho when launching bombing missions. A lot of the time they really are just hoping its the right target. That is not good enough.

really is not accurate. When your targets use civilians as shields 24/7, things like this will happen regardless of how much "intel" you have.

So saying America is just "hoping" or "guessing" does not really work here. They are more than likely bombing targets at times there will be the fewest amount of civilian deaths

But you get my point. The US just see the target and want that. A lot of the time they arent looking so much to see if there are any civilians there.

It isnt the way to do business. It generates fear and hatred of the US and thats not so good.

Forum signatures make my eyes hurt so i have turned them off.

US is/has been declining the past 20 years and will be replace on the totem pole soon.

    dunmugmeh [538353]

    SaintLuke [2220265]

really is not accurate. When your targets use civilians as shields 24/7, things like this will happen regardless of how much "intel" you have.

So saying America is just "hoping" or "guessing" does not really work here. They are more than likely bombing targets at times there will be the fewest amount of civilian deaths
That's not completely true, they see some people loading water tanks in the car and guess it is material to make bombs and blow a whole family up. That happened not that long ago.

I think you would be surprised, they do indeed tend to look to avoid civilian casualties. We are talking about a military that has gone out of its way to try and ensure nobody but the enemy is somewhere by passing around warnings to the civilians...knowing damn well chances are the enemy will get word and leave as well.

    PipeHitter [2687718]

When I first heard that they had discovered and eliminated the person responsible for the airport bombing at Kabul in less than 48 hours, I was immediately skeptical. They had either (A) known it was coming and did nothing to stop it (which has happened in the past with the USG), or (B) recognized how bad the situation made them look and quickly tried to find a scapegoat with possible ISIS-K ties to pin the blame on - this way it's damage control because they get a "win" out of the deal.

Instead the USG kills an aid worker and his entire family due to insufficient intel and firing from the hip because they dropped the ball and the world took notice.

    dunmugmeh [538353]

As i discussed further up. The US has always been far too gungho when launching bombing missions. A lot of the time they really are just hoping its the right target. That is not good enough.
I 100% believe this was an attempt at damage control. The withdrawal was a cluster right from the get go, and the attack was carried out because they saw US troops were vulnerable because of said situation. They knew it was going to reflect poorly on the administration, so they found someone quick with "possible" ISIS-K ties and shot from the hip so they could say "Look at us, we got the guy who planned the attack!". It pops up as Facebook clickbait, the sheep all throw thumbs up and care hearts on it, maybe say "GJ Mr. President" and scroll on trying to find out what kind of fruit resembles them the most. There are people who don't understand this was the same incident.

They literally had mistaken water bottles for explosives, that means they assumed something and were wrong about it, it was a guess. they even wanted to stay silent about it but the New York times revealed it.
