I'm sorry, why exactly do we need links for this?

Here is a more recent incident from July, where it's quite clearly stated that a plane could be shot down for "violating air space"

    https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202107/1228730.shtml

It's a question of whether PLA is right in claiming Taiwan as part of their territory.

    Hoch [1772040]

Sorry Taiwan is an independent nation. Shooting down such an aircraft would be a declaration of war and an international crime. Instead of backing down, they should have proceeded.

    Sagramor [1908287]

This is likely on the Hoch bingo card

1- Asks me if I'm okay with the threat of a shoot down - I am not.

2- Then proceeds to suggest that they should have proceeded even if it led to the shooting of a plane with diplomats.

You can't make up for stupid.

    Hoch [1772040]

    so live in fear
Fact you support the outgoing egomaniacal potus and his christian fundamentalist SoS provoking the potential downing of their own diplomats airplane is telling....

of an individual who is lost.

I didn't think most would need a booster. Did your Doc advise you to get one? All this booster talk is fairly new, and I'm not too sure where it all stands.

Nah, he only said it's possible, not definite.

I asked how soon, he said 8 months, which would put me in sometime in April.

I'm completely pro science, double vaccinated, and still wear a mask in busy indoor environments and medical institutions (pharmacies, hospitals, chiropractors etc.). However I'm 100% against government mandates to be vaccinated. Encouraging everybody to get it is one thing (86% ish at last check for everybody over 18 in the UK. Not bad at all). Forcing it on people however, sets a bad precedent. It certainly won't win any votes come election day.

I have no problem with any private businesses enforcing social distancing and masks and such, If I go to a pub for a meal and they require me to wear a mask if I leave the table then so be it. I either comply or go somewhere else. I choose to stay and put my mask on. It doesn't exactly cause a drama. A bit of fabric on my face for a few minutes while I piss won't do me any harm. It actually makes pub toilets more bearable to be in.

BUT going to the pub with somebody who hasn't been vaccinated for medical reasons, and watching them being refused entry (because they haven't got a vaccine passport) isn't fair in my opinion. I understand the logic, and it's probably the right thing to do, but it still isn't fair.

In the UK, Wales and Scotland are talking about enforcing such measures at 'high risk venues' (nightclubs, sports stadia etc.). Not in England though. We're basically going back to pre-Covid normality.

Fauci doesn't make law, and suggests things based on the best given information, at that particular time.

There are already "vaccine mandates". Both America and UK.

And we wouldn't have them in discussion, if everyone, or most people got them. 86% is 30% more than Americans, and UK and many other EU entities check for vaccine status at businesses. Here in America, that's seen as "encroaching on freedom". I just got back from Germany, and became more appalled at USAs lack of scientific trust and outright stupidness from the likes of people like brisky and others in this sub.

I think rejecting unvaccinated is totally fair. They are encroaching on MY freedom to do what I want. And they put others at risk. Endangering others in any other situation is bad and frowned upon, but in this case it's OK? Bull. I'd agree with you more if almost 90% of Americans get vaccinated. But as you can see, there is too much misinformation and holier than thou attitude going around.

When I'm talking about 'fairness', I'm talking about people who can't have the vaccine. Not people who think Bill Gates wants to microchip us and turn us into remote controlled drones just so he can recreate the zombie dance from Thriller. And like I said, just because it isn't fair doesn't necessarily mean it is the wrong thing to do.

In the run up to winter, Boris has said that anybody working in care homes needs to be double vaccinated, or lose their jobs (or be moved to another non-public facing role within the care industry). That definitely isn't fair for staff who can't have the vaccine for medical reasons. There can't really be exemptions made either for these people, since that would undermine the whole reason for bringing in the measure. However, not enforcing a rule like this would be unfair on the residents of care homes, since these are typically the most vulnerable people who need protection.

Either way you look at it, somebody can claim 'unfairness'. A decision still needs to be made. My only hope is the Tories decide what is best for the country, and not what is most likely to get them voted in come the next general election.

I am also only talking about this from the perspective of somebody here in the UK. I know things are massively different in the USA. With the old white conservatives over here, vaccine uptake was huge. Vaccine hesitancy is more prevalent in ethnic minorities. This still kind of points to a mistrust of the government. We just have a different 'wing' as the establishment.

I'm completely pro science, double vaccinated, and still wear a mask in busy indoor environments and medical institutions (pharmacies, hospitals, chiropractors etc.). covid magically disappear as soon you sit on the table and eat. and covid will magically appear again as soon you leave your table. so yeah. better wear mask.
For me, putting a mask on causes no problems whatsoever. If the pub landlord wants me to wear a mask when I get up I will. I'd rather be in the pub having a pint. He doesn't like people dancing on his tables, so I don't do that either. We don't put drinks on the pool table.

His house, his rules. If we don't like it, we can always go somewhere else.

Irrelevant. Wearing shorts and trainers to a nightclub won't cause problems either, but it won't get me past the bouncers on the door. I could stand outside and protest that they are taking my freedoms away since they are forcing me to wear clothes I don't want to wear. That would just result in me being cold and sober at 3am.

Its not exacting 100% harm reduction. Its attenuation.
