ISIS-K is looking to make inroads into Afghanistan. If they do attack and throw off the precarious "stability" of the Taliban’s coming to power, then it's very likely to be a bloodbath in the region.

Weird, I was told by the last administration that ISIS was "100% defeated".

    Was that a lie?

We were also told that the administration brokered a peace deal where, when we did leave, the taliban wouldn't take power, and wouldn't kill people.

    Was that a lie?

I'll have to admit, this is the expected part now. More chaos, more infighting among the sects,

This is the result so far from this attack at Kabul
There's Been An Explosion Outside Of Kabul's Airport, The Pentagon Says https://www.npr.org/2021/08/26/1031244804/kabul-airport-explosion-afghanistan?sc=18&f=1031244804

It'll be an interesting next few years in global politics as everyone deals with Afghanistan, the taliban, and it's surrounding region. I envision a heavier CIA precense in Pakistan, maybe Iran and Iraq as Russia starts their ol' "totally a democracy guyssss" march.

The world is already set with a new path, the SARS2 virus is especially enhancing that right now. It won't go well for countries like Afghanistan under taliban rule. The real near term question, is how and how many people are going to go down with them.

When did ISIS-K begin operations in Afghanistan?

The group goes by a few names — ISIS-K, IS-K, ISKP, which stands for Islamic State Khorasan or Islamic State Khorasan Province.
It has presumably been in Afghanistan since at least November 2014, when jihadists in Afghanistan and Pakistan pledged allegiance to the core ISIS group, said Riza Kumar, a research analyst at the Counter Extremism Project, a New York-based organization that maintains an extensive research database on extremist groups. ISIS-K was officially accepted by the core ISIS group in January 2015.

ISIS-K took its name from a historical region that covered much of modern-day Afghanistan and parts of Central Asia. It appeared in late 2014 in the eastern province of Nangarhar, where it retains a stronghold, and it also has a presence in Kunar province, the Afghan capital Kabul and northern Afghanistan.
It was formed by the disgruntled commanders of the Pakistani Taliban, or Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and joined by a few lower-ranked Afghan Taliban commanders and Afghan jihadist ideologues, said Abdul Sayed, an independent researcher on jihadism and the politics and security of the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.

They're a group of disaffected former branch of the Taliban.

Everyone needs to stop blaming Biden now for this ‘terrible evacuation’ or these unfounded claims that he is taking orders from the taliban by not extending the US’ evacuation deadline past the 31st of August. Clearly he knew something like this would happen and has his reasons for not extending it - he is protecting the american troops if anything.

He is protecting people by not rescuing them??? Other countries have sent groups in to evacuate their own citizens.. This is just the beginning of the bloodshed; yes you can blame Joe Biden.

    Orrrrrrrrrrr,

It shows the Taliban is smart enough to get a ally to do its dirty work for it. How did this suicide bomber get past all the Taliban checkpoints with a explosive strapped to his / her chest? After all the Taliban does run several checkpoints before the refugees get to the American controlled checkpoint. They have no problem beating/ putting people in the backs of trucks and driving away while beating them. I guess this guy knew the secret Taliban hand shake for getting past checkpoints carrying a bomb!

Doubtful that they are allies. ISIS views the Taliban as being a bunch of apostates and it is unlikely that this view has changed since they took power.

    He was briefed about everything.
