Vista, California: A five-year-old girl is winning hearts of people after she sold cookies and hot cocoa to pay off the lunch debts of 123 of her classmates. Katelynn Hardee, a kindergartner at Breeze Hill Elementary School decided to help her friends when she overheard a parent say that she was facing difficulties to pay for an after school programme.
When Katelynn talked to her mother Karina about it, she told her that they should be kind to people and help them whenever they can. The girl then decided to set up a stall along with her mother on December 8 and spent her Sunday selling cookies, hot cocoa and cider. The mother-daughter duo collected $80 from the sales and donated the amount to pay off the lunch debts of over 100 students at the school.
"Everybody is just so proud and happy and other students are already talking about ways they can also make a difference. It goes to show that even one small, kind act from a five-year-old can mean the difference for someone in their life," Lori Higley, the principal of the school, told CNN.
The five-year-old is now planning to pay off the "thousands of negative accounts" at schools in the Vista Unified School District, Karina said. The initiative is called #KikisKindnessProject.
Other students and staff at the school have been motivated to join hands with Katelynn. They will host hot cocoa and baking goods stand on Saturday to raise more money and help other students pay off their negative school lunch accounts.
The money raised will also be used to help support school programmes that will be removed due to low budget. "It's all about kindness. Especially this holiday season, and with everything that's going on in the world, we just need a little bit more kindness out there," the mother said.Kaizaki defeated the dried up witch and got her prince in the end.
