Be gay. Do crimes.

Personally I think it is deeply insightful. And quite frankly I think you are a bigot. In the words of Kanye West, 'I'm a creative genius and there's no other way to word it."

Posted on 03:07:41 - 17/12/23 (9 months ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkFirst, you changed the quote. That's not being honest, and when it comes to the needs of the poorest in the world, honesty is important. Quote it accurately.
Secondly, if you say you care about the needs of every stranger more than your cup of coffee in the morning, you're fooling yourself. You don't and cannot even begin to understand the needs of even 10 strangers, let alone a world full of 8 billion of them. You'd like to pretend you care about their needs, because you want to think charitably of yourself, and you want others to think charitably of you. But it's only an abstraction - an abstraction most people, including myself, share. But one recognizes it as an abstraction when one actually visits a hopelessly impoverished country and begins thinking about what one could actually do to help them and realizes one can actually do nothing outside of sending them money, and even that arguably does not help overall, because it just inflates the currency and drives up the prices for everyone you haven't sent money to. If you really care, then go visit the third world and devote the rest of your life to helping those poor people find ways to build their economy from the bottom in spite of all the corruption and violence around them. -

Posted on 01:45:39 - 18/12/23 (9 months ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkYou're taking a very individualist interpretation of a meme that has a portrayal of Karl Marx. Karl was not the type to suggest people go on mission trips. He was writing about and advocating for structural change in economic society. The comic has him asking a question and then bearded chad replies. Bearded chad is responding to Marxism, not just the individual standing in front of him.
Also, Bearded chad does not go into an explanation about the need for collective action, or the fact his own material comfort is also precarious due to the lack of a robust welfare state, making individual sacrifices still dangerous. He says (let me make sure I get it just right)
"I value my morning coffee more than your needs."
Which sure sounds a lot like the equivalent of saying f**k you, I've got mine.Be gay. Do crimes.

Marx ideas had a lot of influence, and still have today. Marx himself not so much.Last edited by Capgros on 15:05:39 - 18/12/23 -
