    RambleRocket [2200354]

whether elon invented anything or not, it doesnt matter, hes using his wealth to propel humanity to the next era, the next step, the space age. and has his sights set pretty high in that terraformation is probably a pretty mid to late space colonial age thing to do.

the advances we can get i cannot describe.... but think on going from the medieval age to the industrial age.... the life expectancy of humans increased a good 20 years and the quality of life improved.... so i believe musk is one of the more responsible good billionaires that can drag all of humanity up whether some of us see that now or not, his advanced will increase our quality of life and life expectancy and the survivability of our species. plus humans overpopulating this one planet will cause our lives to be worth less and life to get more miserable, we need to control our population which we cant do, the only other way is a offload and spread of population through many more planets.

    ZickyJackz [497258]

Thing is, Musk has invented. Maybe not in a way ol Cap believes. But he has a lot of stuff going on.

Falcon Rocket is one of his most impressive feats. A reusable Rocket. And an electric rocket engine.

Even one of his smaller creations, the "boring brick" is very cool. It's much stronger than normal bricks, and far cheaper. He would have them made during the making of tunnels and hyper loops. when you have to move a lot of earth anyway, why not make strong bricks for dirt cheap. (pun intended)

    Capgros [2088627]

there isn't lol, he is a fraud with a big mouth, that's all.

there is no evidence that boring bricks" are actually strong as he claims, he did some unrealistic projects for some cities wasting taxpayer money to be able to fund his rocket fetish, so despite everything you believe space X is still mainly paid by taxes

Elon Musk’s growing empire is fueled by $4.9 billion in government subsidies

"Tesla Motors Inc., SolarCity Corp. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp., known as SpaceX, together have benefited from an estimated $4.9 billion in government support, according to data compiled by The Times. The figure underscores a common theme running through his emerging empire: a public-private financing model underpinning long-shot start-ups.
“He definitely goes where there is government money,” said Dan Dolev, an analyst at Jefferies Equity Research. “That’s a great strategy, but the government will cut you off one day.”

funny those "free market" adepts are the first ones to hold up their hands when the government gives money.

    ZickyJackz [497258]

    "there's no evidence"

And what billionaire company doesn't take money from the Government?

Fraud with a big mouth, eh? lol You'd know a lot about that, would you?
Yeah, the truth will come out eventually, and Tesla shares will have a free fall, you know there are other car brands that make cheaper and better electric cars than Tesla. He is not doing it to make the world a better place, it's all ego

The way he treats his workers, he is the same as Jeff Bezos but more charismatic.

Edit: You literally take evidence from their own commercial, laughable lol.

    Thanks for the input.

    Capgros [2088627]

You realize he didn't invent any of those no?

    ZickyJackz [497258]

Some people aren't even worth the effort lol

    Capgros [2088627]

Why, even the article states the same, I think he is just some rich kid buying companies and abusing tax payers money to go after a completely unrealistic dream.

    ZickyJackz [497258]

I'm guessing you didn't actually read it? Where does it say that he invented nothing, and only bought companies and was abusing tax payers?

Cause it really only mentions companies He himself has made, Like Space X and Telsa. And Paypal, but he sold that.

    Capgros [2088627]

    He didn't make Tesla himself:

Tesla was founded (as Tesla Motors) on July 1, 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in San Carlos, California.[1][2]

    He bought it

    PayPal the same:

PayPal was originally established by Max Levchin, Peter Thiel, and Luke Nosek in December 1998 as Confinity,[11] a company that developed security software for handheld devices. It had no success with that business model, however, so switched its focus to a digital wallet.[12] The first version of the PayPal electronic payments system was launched in 1999.[13]

X.com was an online bank co-founded by Elon Musk, Harris Fricker, Christopher Payne, and Ed Ho in March 1999.[1] In March 2000, X.com merged with Confinity Inc., a software company based in Silicon Valley. Musk was attracted to Confinity because of its easy payment system. The merged company changed its name to PayPal. eBay bought PayPal for US$1.5 billion in 2002.[2] In July 2015, PayPal was spun off and became an independent company.[-Wikipedia

"there own commercial". That isn't their commercial, you ding dong. "what's inside" has been on YT for ages. It's a dad and his son, usually cutting shit in half to see "What's inside".

And I wouldn't call Musk charismatic. He's more awkward than anything. But he's seemingly using his vast wealth to help humanity forward. Know any others doing the same?

X.com was an online bank co-founded by Elon Musk, Harris Fricker, Christopher Payne, and Ed Ho in March 1999.[1] In March 2000, X.com merged with Confinity Inc., a software company based in Silicon Valley. Musk was attracted to Confinity because of its easy payment system. The merged company changed its name to PayPal. eBay bought PayPal for US$1.5 billion in 2002.[2] In July 2015, PayPal was spun off and became an independent company.[-Wikipedia

I never said anything about X com, he still didn't invent the rockets or anything, others are doing that for him, he is not a real engineer although he likes to call himself one, it's extremely simple if you have the money.

if PayPal started in 1999, how did he not buy it lol, from the same wiki page: The first version of the PayPal electronic payments system was launched in 1999.[13]

Don't make it easy for me please

    ZickyJackz [497258]

    X.com became paypal. Jesusssssss lol

    Capgros [2088627]

    The system was already launched.....

1999: Confinity launches first version of the PayPal electronic payments system.
2000: Confinity is acquired by X.com Corporation.

2001:X.com makes initial offering of stock on NASDAQ; firm is renamed PayPal Inc.

But it was not invented by Musk......That was the whole point no? He took something that already existed, that was my point from the start.

Oh look, more people giving Musk credit for "inventing nothing". How could theyyyyy. LMAO Just admit you were wrong. Goddamn.

He took something and made it something new, and better. it's like when a caveman took a rock and shaped it into a wheel.

You sure have a hate boner for Elon Musk. It's pretty damn amusing.

Boner for him? Nah, not exactly. I just think he is what billionaires should be. People who use their vast wealth and fame to help humanity. Even if it isn't "enough" help for some, its leagues better than what most rich f**ks do. You don't seem wall street or hedge fund f**kers doing jack shit to help people.

Does that even matter? Your claim was that he "invented nothing".

Again, He is filthy rich, yes. But he has done some good for humanity.

And what does it matter that his parents are "white"? Would it somehow be better if they were Arabian? Or Asian?

hedge funds and banks are the worst though..... they use their wealth to destroy businesses and short markets and create fud so that their shorts make money, thus pinning down businesses and destroying peoples lives and costing peoples jobs all so they can increase their holdings.

Well, it kind of shows white privilege, not that you can blame Musk for it, but wealthy people are not always wealthy because they are better than others.

White from South Africa, while owning an emerald mine says something (although musk denies this), I just don't believe in the hype around rich people, but maybe you are right and my comment was a bit too harsh, on the other hand, many reports from his factories have come that he is kind of a racist dickhead towards black people, but yeah, without hard evidence that's hard to say.

    Capgros has that whitephobia thingy.

The only cure is education and common sense.

I'm afraid the prognosis for Cap n Hand isn't good.

the original thinker who came up with the concept is Robert Goddard. in 1909. over 100 years ago. Elon even mentions it himself

and Elon is yet to come even remotely close to building it. not even a single prototype has been built yet.

Elon musk is simply advocating it. he isn't the only one who came up with the idea. he isn't the one who is building it. he isn't even the one who is paying for it.
