I have a lot of free time and I've always been interested in coding. I heard anyone can learn so I downloaded Python/PyCharm but I'm lost on where to start, So far I've been following along with some YouTube videos while taking notes. If you're wondering what my plan is for coding I'm not 100% sure just yet but I feel like Python is a good place to start.

    Thanks

Best way to learn coding is to try and make something. Python is a great language to start. My favorite editor for Python is Visual Studio Code.

Try this out, it'll give you a good feel for the language from beginner to intermediate. Some of the stuff is locked behind a pro paywall but they offer a free trial and they're pretty reasonable for pricing otherwise. :)

As Video mentioned, best way to learn is to actually create something. Find something that interests you?
For example, since you play torn, make a text rpg in console. Doesn't need to be huge. Or a tic tac toe. Or maybe something completely different, like password generator is simple enough too!

Start slow. Learn to crawl. Get basics down first and do that by building something you want.

I'm trying to make a kill counter for a game right now. (Apex Legends)

You'd have your starting kills, your kills from last game, your kills for that day and then your total overall kills. I'm struggling to figure out how I get the kills from last game to add to the kills for the day and then to your total kills without typing everything in.
I can run it and type like:
    Starting kills: 100
    Kills last game: 5
    Kills for the day: 5
    Total kills = 105
I'd like to be able to then just change (Kills last game) and for that to add on to (Kills for the day + Total kills)

I'd like to make it for something like OBS to use on a stream but I'm very new to coding, I have the very basic code already written out I just need to continue learning so I can make it do exactly what I intended.

If none of that made sense I'm sorry I'm not very good at explaining what's in my head which is why I normally don't ask for help or just do things alone lol.

I would advise you to be really careful.
You could end up being detected by the anti cheat and get banned.
Normally you can pretty much only get such data from the games engine while its running, read it from the active memory.
Meaning you most likely have to hook in one way or another.
This however, it also what a cheat normally does.
Anti-cheat wouldn't know the difference and see you as a cheater and ban you.

I would advise you get far more coding experience and knowledge about how these sorts of things work before attempting something like this.

Oh no I don't mean like that, that's way too advanced for me I mean more like you can see what kills you start on so you'd just type it in and you can see how many kills you get in a game so you'd also type that in then that would give you your kills for the day and your total overall kills.

Ah basically just like a tiny excel page in program form

you would likely be saving to and reading from a log then that your program would have to make somewhere, otherwise tracking things gonna be hard

You could also look into C# and try to make a basic application to handle this. Visual Studio offers a really nice visual so you could make a small program to run locally, type in your data, save it, just keep going from there. Although it may be hard to learn right off the bat, it could be worth your time if you find out you like C#. Otherwise, doing it with Python is just fine too and Python is great language. Very powerful and also friendly for starters.

Check out Fox Learn on YouTube for C# / SQL tutorials and you may find this is a better route for your purposes. Of course if not that's fine too, nothing wrong with Python just thought I'd offer a different suggestion.

I do plan on learning as many languages as possible because I'm really enjoying it right now but for now I don't want to get overwhelmed so I'll just stick with Python for now.
I also think I could figure out how to get my code into OBS text.

Congrats on learning Python, its a versatile language. My advice would be to take a course on coursera, which you can get free. Youtube courses would help, but after some time, you might forget stuff. Courses helps you to be in track. But if your really determined then you can learn via youtube

automatetheboringstuff.com is where I first figured it out. It tells you to use certain editors and stuff, but you can mostly ignore that and use whatever editor you would prefer.

It really helped me get a base understanding of what I was actually doing.

If you have Discord, writing a Discord bot is a good first/secondproject (after you learned the basics through something like Codecademy of course), it's how I learned Python actually! Lmk if you want more info about Discord bots in Python.

The good thing about a Discord bot is that you can see it working quite quickly, since you can implement features one after another. So, when you start, maybe you can just have it do math or repeat what you type. Then, once you learn more about how to do HTTP requests and how APIs work, try having it interact with the Torn API to show you how much energy you have for example. After that, you could try to implement notifications or have it return item market/bazaar prices. At the end, you might even be able to sell your bot in Torn.
