    I both agree and disagree with the article's take on Tolkein's racial perspective. He was definitely outwardly anti-racist, as evidenced by straightforward anti-racist Aesops in his writing. He also had a strong tendency toward blatantly using real-life ethnic markers and North-South/West-East oppositions to designate large groups of characters as genetically/nationally evil. Probably it didn't register to him that he was contradicting himself.

    Anyway, my reaction when I heard about this series was, "why do we need every piece of backstory in famous media properties expanded into an entire story now?" Then I remembered that's exactly how Tolkein operated, and his influence might even be responsible for the trend.

    aye thats exactly how id expect an elf to behave

    i think having such long life spans is what gives them a feeling of superiority lol

    plus if they were perfect from the start there is no room for character development

    a great example is steve from stranger things, in the first couple of series he was a total douchcanoe but by the end had grown on you and was a fantastic leader and lovable etc etc
