    Good Evening all.

Has anyone watched Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore yet?

What did you think of it if you have?

I'm not really wanting to watch it if Johnny Depp isn't playing Grindelwald in it.

Nope, don't like they did a new series called Fantastic Beasts despite being focused on other characters and/or different times.

I don't mind the new direction they've taken in the wizarding world.

It gives a bit of past knowledge of the wizarding and muggle world back in the days before Voldemort and Harry Potter.

Did you know Grindelwald was mentioned in Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 1? It shows him as a prisoner of Azkaban as Voldemort tries to find the location of the Elder Wand.

I also heard somewhere that Dumbledore may have actually loved Grindelwald romantically.

I'd ideally like to see the future past Voldemort turned into a series as well, ideally with Harry Potter's son as the main character.

Pretty sure Grindelwald was mentioned well before TDH, but it's been a while since I've read the series.

Wasn't eager to watch it, mostly due to J.K. Rowling's recent comments. But I went cause the Wizarding World is literally my entire childhood.

It's funny to me that it somehow hits a nerve at both sides of the socio-political aisle. Wokes for the Rowling's TERF comments, and Anti-Wokes for the undeserved me-too-ing of Johnny Depp.

I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed 'Crimes of Grindelwald', so my standards are pretty low when it comes to Harry Potter related content. As long as it builds out the world more, it's a win in my book.

Despite this, the movie still felt like a letdown to me. I'll try to explain without spoilers.

    Feels Like a Filler Episode
Half the movie feels pointless. There is literally a sense that most of this movie's runtime is a side-quest, made for padding. Basically, the group established early on splits up to do a bunch of inconsequential things, for the sake of confusing Grindelwald, who can peer into the future. It's a clever plan, but basically means half the things that happen in the movie, don't mean anything by the third act. And its third act isn't a huge climax, it's like a Scooby-Doo ending where, this week's evil plan of the dastardly villain must be foiled.

    The Magic is Gone
There is something so awesome about how these movies usually have such amazing creativity in how magic is used. Here most of the spells are bland and basic, most of it is just a lightshow of green and red shooting back and forth. Not much new is established, except of the new magical creature which the plot forcibly centers around, because it's still a Fantastic Beasts movie.

Mads Mikkelsen is a Completely Different Grindelwald
This might be a good or bad change, depending on your villain preferences. Johnny Depp's version was completely himself. Strange and extra, just the way you love all his characters. Mads is also completely himself, a stoic, menacingly intimidating presence, similar to his Hannibal, Dr. Strange villain, and his Death Stranding character. If you like a scarier more serious villain, he's the better of the two. Though I will say, I felt more emotion from Depp's performance. There was a certain pain in his eyes, which felt so humanizing to the character, which is something completely missing in Mads' more intimidating presence.

So yeah, that's my honest thoughts. I kinda regret seeing it. I went against what most of my queer friends told me to do, and didn't even get all that good of a movie for it in return. I hope the franchise recovers though, maybe somehow escapes Rowling's shadow. As for Depp, I understand why he doesn't want anything to do with the franchise anymore. Hope the court case goes well.

And hey, there's a great looking game coming, so fingers crossed. ??

Moving The Wizarding World to America? No. It stays here in the UK. I grew up with it for years only to see it move on elsewhere, in adulthood. Welp.

My boyfriend showed me the trailer like 2-3 hours ago and I saw it was in NY and that put me further off from watching this filler bs.

First one is New York, second Paris, and the third mostly in Germany.

According to a few people, Mads Mikkelsen makes a better Grindelwald and whilst that may be true and I do enjoy watching movies with Mads Mikkelsen in them, I can't stand when people change actors halfway through a series.

I’m currently rereading the HP books for like the 6th time (I last read them about 10 years ago though) and I don’t see what peoples issue is with the FB franchise. They’ll never be as good as the HP films and I’m not overly invested in the FB world but it’s still a little slice of magic regardless, with a few nostalgic moments.

There are so many possible spin offs and avenues to go down in the HP universe… I really do hope that JK will sign off on some more stuff, as the possibilities are endless.

That’s if the woke peeps don’t cancel her completely first.

It will be just another Spectical for the Muggles like the rest of them were.

And why do they have so many wizards in muggle clothes that gets me mad. It is made more from an outside view and not an inside view of the world. Well the other movies got a bad start with Christapher Columbus. So the movies kind of went blah from the start. Where they did not capture the world at all.

Also in the time it was in there would be a bunch of Muggles smpoking but they probably did that for ratings. ( in the first Fantastic Beasts one)
