I'll give it straight to you. This movie is simply retarded.
It's a slow as shit, unfunny parody of simultaneously the Matrix and Fight Club (a little bit). One could say it is a stoner comedy but people who made it were factually taking much harder drugs than just stoner stuff at the time, it's not even like "what were they smoking" - we know for a fact what they were using when this was made, it's not even for like a joke - it's just the sad reality of that period of their lives. BUT
this movie encompasses a strange era in television and cinema, the era of postmodern meta-content that was speaking directly to the viewer, movies like Freddy Got Fingered where the star just openly doesn't try and it's the whole point. People could be just complete retards on screen and get paid for it because big execs thought "hey that's what kids are into these days apparently".

Nobody remembers The Helix. Nobody talks about it, nobody had ever reviewed it on YouTube, nobody even wants it, it's out there for free https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoo7X944XGA but there's just something weirdly comforting about that stupidity. Maybe it's just nostalgia glasses. Maybe it's The Room effect. idk check it out for yourself, but don't be sober. Oh and there's also Vanilla Ice in that, past his prime.
