I honestly wanted to like this movie... but it just doesn't work for me.
The first film had atmosphere, this smothering decaying-sweet atmosphere of the projects.
The second one... I dunno, I didn't feel how it tried to touch the themes of gentrification, I didn't get any feel of the place.
It's interesting that they decided to continue the plot of the first film in an unexpected way, but it is just kinda forgettable. Like Rosemary's Baby 2 (yes this was a real thing).

Candyman went from a relentless brutal killer, whom takes no exceptions, to a protector of the black community, essentially a superhero. What's the point in Helen saving Anthony from Candyman if he just ended up becoming the next Candyman?

And 5 seconds of Tony Todd is not enough

AND the original had soundtrack by Philip Glass, one of - if not the - most talented classic composers of the 20th century. We all remember the piano score, the chorus of the projects, The Sweet... The new one doesn't offer ANYTHING new besides some uglified pieces of the original score and noise collages that sound like a cat is being dragged through a cello. Maybe with the exception of the Cabrini Walk, it was an interesting ethno piece, but very out of place.

And the idea of multiple Candymen is just cheapening the original legend imo. It's interesting that they show how folklore changes and adds details but come the f on, it's like if Jason Vorhees was changing his backstory in every movie. And the story with razor blades in candy, that goes freggin nowhere.

The original films where classics particulary the first one.

A remake/redux was NEVER going to 'work' its going to be so hard to get anywhere near the original.

It was always doomed to be remembered as a poor imitation.

Im not going to bother seeking it out and watching it.

The original is one of the best horror/shocker films ever. A redux was never going to work.

2nd? you're off by about 2 more movies, you should see the next 2 installments after the original, purely bullshit especially the 3rd one with a baywatch actress as a main char... now we have 4 candyman movies, so far none of them peaked the atmosphere of the first one, they are just you know, to fill something that didn't need to be filled in the first place

I've honestly completely forgot about the existence of these, like all those Hellraiser sequels or Children of the Corn, or Puppetmaster... Of course, the late 80's early 90's obligatory "...-2 Electric Boogaloo", it was like the law. Just shows you how unmemorable these things are I guess.

All these movies are only remembered from their first, the sequels/prequels/remakes are so lame that noone will ever bother to remember them. Like the exorcist, i can't remember the other movies but i believe the last one was early 2000's, or like poltergeist, i know there were a few sequels aswell and a shitty remake with sam rockwell. Why the f**k would you remake a masterpiece? It's like top 10 best horror movies ever made.

Brutal, violent, shocking and made very well.

You know, what you just said made me think that maybe the cratacter of Candyman was appropriated for an unrelated script here. Maybe this was just a generic ghost movie script at first, which was then rewritten to fit Candyman in, cause the studio didn't think it was good enough on its own but could work as part of the franchise

oh my freggin lord I have already forgotten about Poltergeist (2015)!!! - and I saw the damn movie from beginning to end, twice!

Watched the original.

I think both are very good in their own right. I do like how the original explains urban legends/folklore - it can be applied to movies of similar origins.

Speaking of horror, chucky gets a tv series. I really like the first few of them, the newer ones are meh, maybe this time they won't put too much lgbtwqibiasdiwbidq shit stuff into it like they do nowadays (equalizer portrayed by a fat black female...)
I will give it a shot tho, at least the writer is the same on from the first movie, it's a good starting point truth be saying.

So far the new tv series dissapoints big time, main char is a gay, chucky looks way too nice, the freckles missing(they are too small) is a big f**k you given... so far 4/10
