I have to say I wasn't expecting such an amazing movie. Above average maybe, it seemed over hyped.

But wow, that couldn't have been a better prequel in any sense. The only thing the movie lacked was realism. The detectives not piecing things together or how many things were left up for you to decide on how they ended in so many scenes.

On the other hand, leaving so many scenes open-ended was an amazing choice as well. They did it a lot, but it worked each time. The acting from every single person involved was beyond perfect. If you haven't seen it, I'd advise you to do it ASAP. Without a doubt the best villain of all time... and this movie made him human.

I'm blown away how so many critics were divided on this, either it was a masterpiece or trash. The director is the same person who made Road Trip... How do you go from that to this? What a legend.

i thought it was probably the best origin movie of any type. i will say though going from road trip to joker in nearly 20 years isnt really all that odd. james gunn went from writing troma movies to guardians of the galaxy, and tarantino helped write its pat and advanced to some cinematic marvels

He won't win the Oscar he deserves. The critics won't like this movie for what they should. They'll see it as glorifying a villain and trying to sympathise with him and they really won't like it. Plus the Gary Glitter song. How dare they.

Some other touchy feely shit will win that's about whatever is the on trend as being woke. Probably a film about how hard it is to be a transgender person in society.

Personally, I think he is the best Joker to date, including that of Heath Ledger. Dark Knight was great, but I can't wait to see Phoenix in a full on Joker role.

the last 20 mins are great. great optics.

i was shocked to see the alienation, and loneliness. the desperation depicted so honestly by hollywood. specifically for western men. thats definitely why the critics dont like it. it exposes their lies. it makes them uncomfortable. the movie wasn't for them.

and dont bring your girlfriend to see joker. thats pretty cringe bro. go with your kings, your boys. your gf wouldn't get it.

Both played the same character so people will undoubtedly compare the two. Phoenix played more of the comic book villain style joker. A bit campy, maniacal laughter, a twisted enjoyment in what he was doing, etc.

Ledger was more of an action movie bad guy with an agenda. Still psychotic, don't get me wrong. He just didn't seem as twisted as the comic book Joker. I said when I first saw the Dark Knight that he didn't seem like the type of 'super' villain to sexually assault Barbara Gordon just to get under the skin of Commissioner Gordon and to piss off Batman. Phoenix's does.

its nothing against females. theres just no consideration for men in this society. you give a man a hug, or run your fingers through his hair. hes likely to break out into tears because hes never been shown affection in his life. thats joker. thats not all men, but too many, and thats a dangerous society.

joker isnt just a movie. its a criticism of society, a society that abandons, and treats people like trash. like they dont exist.

Neither movie was an accurate portrayal of the comic books. Especially not Joker. He let someone go simply because he "was good to him". That isn't someone who would sexually assault someone to get to someone else. The only person who did an accurate depiction of Joker and stayed true to the character was Jack Nicholson... and honestly, he wasn't a good joker simply because he was just acting like himself. He plays the same role in every movie, and it was no different in Joker.

Just a personal opinion! Some people loved Jack as the joker... i didn't enjoy it that much.

Jack Nicholson was a terrible Joker in a terrible film. Don't forget, at that point he wasn't the Joker yet. That came after his brilliant monologue on the show. Trying to go for no spoilers, what he intended to do on the couch, he didn't do. That came after he was pushed by De Niro. That's when it all changed. I think the end was supposed to depict his rebirth.

Again, my opinion and my interpretation of the film. Another (probably unpopular) opinion - f**k Tim Burton.

I just hope they won't film sequel just because of such a great commercial success, which may make studios asking for it.

I like it as it is, nothing else needed to that story.

Unless they have really good ideas about where further to go, but to me Arthur's transformation looks almost finished.

Hmm, actually thinking about it I am no longer sure, lol. It might be going further from someone who was revenging only to those whom wronged him, to become someone even darker, full of rage, or someone simply enjoying to punish others with much less criteria.

I'd be up for a sequel if it wasn't a Batman film. Like you say, see the darkness of Joker in Gotham whilst being chased by the GCPD. Maybe introduce Harlene Quinzel and see her transformation. Anything but a superhero film and I'm in.

Hate to burst your bubble. But get ready for it because It's gonna happen. And it'll happen again and again and again. When Hollywood finds out they have a money maker on their hands. They'll drive that bitch in the ground faster than John Henry can drive a rail road spike.

Agreed, any connections to Batman story, Thomas and Bruce Wayne were feeling as a bit odd reminders on movie's comics/superhero origin. I like it separated as much as possible.
Connection with Harlene could really be interesting, now one real, not imagined, dark relationship. :)

They set this up perfectly for a sequel... and it's also a good finish as well.

I'm guessing they left it up like this to see how it would do in the box office. We know that answer now... I'm expecting another movie and I hope so. This has so much potential. If they tie it together with other superheroes and shit I'm nowhere near as interested though. I truly could give a shit about those types of movies.

The next one will most likely be him meeting harley quinn. I've wanted that movie forever.

He won't win the Oscar he deserves. The critics won't like this movie for what they should. They'll see it as glorifying a villain and trying to sympathise with him and they really won't like it. Plus the Gary Glitter song. How dare they.

My view on this is the same as yours. To add to it, i should mention, heath wasn't the "protagonist" of the movie per say. He was the opposite to a protagonist yet stole the show for himself and obviously had less screentime than what Joaquin to show. Which is why heath has a special place in my and a lot of other audiences heart.
