What kind of monster does a childhood backstory on a character right after they kill them? Oda. That's who.

    Also Gintama is hilarious

    Hanamichi [2012356]

Seeing Garp sad made cry like a baby.
Try Violet Evergarden. Story in a nutshell:

Clannad: "I'm the saddest, most emotional tear-jerker ever!!!"

Violet Evergarden: ".... hold my typewriter"

Ajin: demi human is a pretty good series I definitely recommend it.

Another one on Netflix was about hitmen hataka something ramen it's also fairly good. I watched up to what netflix had. Currently on dragon ball super as well. It's s shame tomorrow is the last episode. Seems to me it's going to be a fast ending. Not much of an ending story like you know at least have an episode or two after the tournament ends wtf

I havent watched as much anime as others have but my finished favourite of all time would have to be death note. had me on edge all up until it his prodigy came into play :/ then i didnt really care but finished it anyways. Favourite anime movie would have to be Kimi no na wa. had a headache or something for the 2 days that followed and sore face muscles or something from all the crying i did after watching it. Only anime thing that made me cry once only to stop for a bit then cry some more even harder. Then cry even more after finishing. Like when that movie started going for the heart strings, it just picked the mess out of all of them. Oh and i really enjoyed steins;gate.

    Scootaloo [1590427]

Interesting story on the emotional response to anime. I can't say I've had a similar experience to crying for days, and god knows Studios don't dare venture into the territory of tragedy or sorrow for fear of ruining merchandising endeavours. There's been a few shows that hit me pretty hard though, never to the point of outright bawling but they left me thinking about things for a while.

The closest I've gotten to crying would probably be this one anime which I forget the name of, but it had this scene where a mother was struggling to feed her kids. She made them dinner and one of the kids asked her why she wasn't eating and she said "I get plenty full watching you two eat" or something. That one gets me teary eyed thinking about it. Others which got me sort of sad are ToraDora, The Pet Girl of Sakurasuo, and Kokoro Connect.

The one which hit me the hardest has to be Akame ga Kill though, not because the show was exceptional or anything, but they were just relentless in their effort to make it very, very clear that wars are costly, and you will lose people you've become very fond of in them. That was a hard thing to really understand the gravity of when I saw it, due to being mid-teens and completely oblivious to most things mournful.

It also hammered down on a couple of other really important topics, such as the subjective nature of justice and morality, regret, penance and atonement, austerity and stoicism, liberty and tyranny, foolhardy naivity and the problems it can cause. All around good show for the portrayal of these concepts.
Regarding anime that make you think about the cost of war and the madness behind it, mentioning Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a must. The first animation was good as well, but the remake with Brotherhood hit really close to home when someone shoots an innocent child in public just to start a rebellion. It tells about cruelty, revenge and despair in the face of a great loss.

Of course this show made me cry a lot.

Let's say it like this: if you have seen FMA, you'll cry seeing this picture.

While I'm here I suppose I'll give some short, recent thoughts on animu I've watched and been watching.

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens and Killing Bites both finished, I really enjoyed both. Record of Grancrest War entered it's second act, so far having fun.

Watched No Game No Life and that was easily the most fun I've had in a long time. Zany and weird but very enjoyable. Shame it's not getting a second season.

Dagashi Kashi is nice, just a good old slice of life promocational about food and fun.

    EDIT

Gegege no Kitaro is also starting out amusingly.
