Sometimes I talk until I don't know what I'm talking about anymore
I'd like to thank Google translate for making this post possible

Posted on 20:15:16 - 30/07/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI know you're talking about the show, but I've got to open with this: people love the series because the books are brilliantly written. George RR Martin is an exceptional writer, perfectly blending the period-piece feel with seemingly modern undertones. It makes for excellent source material that was translated into an equally brilliant show (at least for the first several seasons).
When they were still working off of the source material, the pacing of the show was breathtakingly intense. I feel they've lost a fair bit of that in the most recent seasons (though if last week's episode was any indication, they're bringing it back), but every episode felt like a movie of its own. Every second of every episode was significant, and every plot-line and family story was deeply intertwined, even when the overlap was not overtly apparent. Until the last two seasons, nothing ever really felt like filler. The last season, unfortunately, felt almost entirely like filler.
The thing that got me the most, though, was the brutal, unyielding, unforgiving and unmerciful mortality of the characters. We saw this sprinkled throughout the first season, as minor (but lovable) characters were callously killed off to pave the way for the bigger stories. It didn't really show its true form, though, until Ned's violent demise, which struck most of us like an arrow through the heart. The bold and confident killing of "main" characters (and fan favorites, no less) set the stage for a show that was to be unlike the majority of modern media. There would be no pandering to the fans. A lot of shows try this (The Walking Dead), but always end up unrealistically saving main characters to spare us that numbing grief (but as fans of TWD know, they really stepped up their game on that one..... RIP Abraham).
The vibe I got was that Game of Thrones is a story with a beginning and an end. It has a lot of characters, but they are all just moving parts. The show isn't about the characters. It isn't about the families. It isn't about the individual struggles and strife. It is about the world as a whole. It is about the story as a whole. It is about everything happening at once.
It is a show about the forest, told through the stories of the trees. -

Posted on 00:37:30 - 01/08/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkIt is moronic if your only critique is stating that an entirely different show is better and then use the term 'weebs'.
Allow me to aid you.
What is it about the show that disagrees with you? Do you find that the overuse of foreshadowing is detrimental to plot events being a surprise? Do you find the slow burning character development to be too tiresome? Do you find the multitude of characters to be overwhelming and tough to follow? -
