Also to find out how you guys feel about the fact that it is the first female Doctor?!

They've been hinting at it long enough. Way back in the 70's/80's the concept was introduced of changing genders at regeneration. The first mention of gender changes in the reboot was in that glorious Idris episode The Doctor's Wife back with #11. Then with Missy turning up it was bound to happen sooner rather than later.
Jodie Whittaker is an excellent choice. She acted the socks off everyone in Broadchurch. Also loved her in Attack The Block (but that's just an awesome film blud n I ain't even lyin LOL)
So two thumbs up here
Edit: I'm loving all the broflake salty tears all over social media. It's too delicious.Last edited by Ali_Looya on 13:59:25 - 17/07/17 (7 years ago) -
Posted on 21:32:53 - 16/07/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI watch Doctor Who, I have been watching since I was very little Two or Three when they started showing it over here. They first started showing the fourth Doctor.
Instead of revealing beforehand I would rather they just wait until the regeneration. That is how I would like it, although someone pwould probably leak it and with the internet it would be over everywhere anyways.
I have only seen her in Broadchurch and I did not like that show that much. It kind of just drags on. Although I think it may supposed to do that. Though hopefully Chris chibnal taking over will not be like that. Though he did write 5 episodesof Doctor Who and seven of Torchwood. -

I'm willing to give her a chance. I really loved Missy so I hope the female Doctor is just as entertaining. I hope they don't fall into stereotypes. After Steve Moffat, I'm really looking forward to basically anyone.
Anyone realise how he never wrapped up his Clara saga? Why did Clara keep running into people who looked like Danny Pink? Did he survive his death? If so then how? Moffat gets a lot of praise but when you rematch his work, he's kind of a sloppy writer (cough cough, Sherlock).Yes, I'm mental.
No, it's okay.

Watched it when I was little with family and grew up with it, can't say I'm bothered there's a female doctor. It's not going to change anything and probably would mean a potential male companion although lesbian bob is pretty great.
She should be good in the role, who cares she's female, grow up. -

I guess I feel like 'cause of the gender normative "real world" we live in a female doctor IMO probably just won't carry the same air of reliablity and responsibility. I know I'm treading dead water, but I can only be honest, I don't want her to be too feminine and change the whole show. Matt Smith wasn't macho or masculine enough for me either; comes across as a savagely sarcastic insecure undermining beta barely in control of his fragile ego, when he doesn't look like a clueless gorm who doesn't have a handle on the situation. So obviously, you can have bold female leaders just as well as you can have male ones, but our society definitely doesn't lend itself to those people who don't perfectly fit in the celebrated boxes we put people in.
I don't want doctor who to be a male superhero, but christopher ecclestone and david tenannt were brave daring adventurers fighting enemies within and without. Peter Capaldi has flashes of it as the doctor, but he's also this mysterious old wizard type. Ofc different actors will explore different aspects of the doctor, and I'm excited to see how the new doctor will perform.
What I'm concerned about is the doctor-sidekick relationship situation with the gender mixup, and the writing of the new episodes. Moffat was well past his expiry date and should've been replaced already. TBH I loved the latest season way more than the previous recent ones, but something has to give. -

Very intrigued as to what a female doctor will bring to the show, however I am sceptical about the actor they chose. Have only seen her in Black Mirror, though. R+ for finding another Doctor Who fan

Posted on 11:06:36 - 22/07/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI started watching Broadchurch the other day where she(Jodie Whitaker) stars quite the role. Enjoyable to say the least! That series also showcase how few actors the UK really has cuz Tennant is in it, so is Filch (harry potter janitor) and Rory (the dull companion of the rory/amy dynamic from dr who). :D

Also, I'm kind of put off with the idea of a female doctor. Been watching it for about the past 10 years or so.
Could be interesting, who knows.
BBC gotta meet their lead female actors quota somehow, I guessFrom the river to the sea, Palestine will be free 🇵🇸

I mean for christ's sake, he had Capaldi say the line "I am Doctor Who!" an episode or two back.Last edited by -Area51- on 17:05:45 - 13/09/17 (7 years ago) -

Posted on 19:50:26 - 13/09/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkMoffat is good at scary story episodes that are here and there. He is not good as a show runner. Also he was there for a bit too long. Amy and Riversong stuff was fine. But after that part was over and Amy was still there, why have that whole break up between Rory and Amy? It made no sense. Then right afterwards they were right back together like nothing was ever wrong. Then Clara came and stayed way too long.
I hope the new companion is not from modern day Earth. There has been too much of that, also no more mothers. They all had mothers involved in a way of some sort.
I do not see why they said oh since now we have a female doctor we need to have a male companion.
Also the Doctor should have more than one companion. The last season worked better because there were two companions not just the one.
There needed to be more than one companion when Clara was there so they could tell her to shut up. -

Revamped Doctor Who could have longer episodes, a new Tardis and more adventures in history. I also read somewhere that it was now confirmed that they'll have 10 episodes/season, but the episodes are an hour long instead of 45 mins. -
