I am a big Power Rangers Fan. I even have the autographs of a few rangers. But I am having doubts on this movie and did not see it yet. In the previews why does the MegaZord look so badly CGIed? it looks worse than the CGIed MegaZord in the first Power Rangers moviethat looked bad then but it is twenty years later, it should not look that bad. It just seems like they will mess up too many things. Watch they do not even mention the Morphing Grid.
Sorry for the rant, there is plenty more that I can go on about, but I doubt I will like it.
POWER RANGERS / Ghost in the Shell

Like when you see kids perform shakespeare or something, you don't expect elite grade theatrics.
With GitS I thought Hollywood gave it their best attempt, and I respect it for that.
Definitely not as bad as the Dragonball movie. A solid 6.5 out of 10 - the 1.5 extra is for getting a few key scenes almost right.
My friend didn't really understand it at all - which was a key aspect of the original movie IMO.
IMO both this and the original film aren't so much movies (as you normally would watch from start to finish and be introduced to characters on a journey resolving after 2h with all the loose ends tied up) rather than an exploration of and focus on the human psyche (even if it isn't contained in a human body lol).
Final verdict - only go see it if you love the franchise.
Seeing Power Rangers tonight, no spoilers pls.
I'm gonna sneak a KFC into the theatre lol just in case it's a waste of time. -

But the Morphing Grid was where their powers came from. Alpha was always talking about the morphing Grid. It was not just the original rangers it is mentioned in other sets of rangers as well. In Operation Overdrive, there was a problem with the Morphing grid, Lord Zedd and Rita had a child and he came back and was attacking the Morphing Grid, The current rangers lost their powers so they got rangers from different points in time, Then Adam got the help of Alpha, it must have been alpha V that went off with Zordo I guess, because I do not think it was Alpha VI. Anyways Alpha went into the morphing grid to fix it.
Jungle Fury also mentions the Morphing Grid. Because RJ says he had a friend, Cam Wantanabe that tapped into the Morphing grid and made the sunglasses morphers.
It is mentioned here and there in other sets of rangers. Though not all are connected to the morphing grid. Like RPM, Doc K had to design all the ranger suits and everything herself and made the suits self regenerating so there was not a need for a morphing grid.
See I told you I was a big fan, and no I am not wearing I fan upon my back like they had on the newest episode of Power Rangers Nina Steel. -

Posted on 16:31:47 - 10/04/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI think ghost in the shell could have been better (they lost some of the original subtlety), but the movie was visually stunning and overall a really good adaptation of the franchise, especially given the way most movie adaptations of (quite frankly) less than mainstream properties die as a horrible garbage fire. So if you enjoyed stand alone complex on adult swim (or the movie, or the manga) it is worth seeing.

I have half-memories of the rangers losing their powers, their morphers didn't work or something, and tommy was in a coma maybe?
I guess i'll have to watch it again! -

Posted on 17:20:02 - 10/04/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkMy biggest beef with the Power Rangers movie was that they forced acceptance down your throat....
It would have been easier to accept the diversity for it just being what it was. Instead, they HAVE to point out that (I may be slightly off with the quote) There is one power ranger of each color and one kid of each color....REALLY? Are we that daft to have to be told that this is a movie about positive diversity?
And if pointing out the races was bad, they also have to point out that there's a lesbian in a group....ala. Boy problems? yea....boy problems....girl problems?!?!?!
I understand that they are trying to show acceptance, but FFS stop putting labels on people, accept them for who they are and be done with it. Tired of this shit being shoved down my throat...
Oh and the language seemed a little forced and unnecessary. -

Here they're recast as the mighty morphin breakfast club though, so you'd kinda expect these kids to curse that much. It made me think "Did I curse around that much as a teenager with no peers around!??" and the answer was (lol) shamefully, yes!
Before I saw the film I had seen commotion online about the "gay" character, but I really think they presented it on screen in such a way that they can scrub it out in the sequels like "it was just a phase" or something. Which is understandable since it's a hot topic lol and profits gotta come first.

With the acceptance stuff I feel like only the autism part was forced but it really felt tastefully done IMO. Probably I thought it was forced, but actually they wanted to make it super obvious so that even autistic kids couldn't not-know that the blue ranger was autistic. But what I love more is they made an autistic blue (rather than red) ranger into the one kids - and autistic kids - can look up to as the awesome one. The "alpha" red ranger clearly had his time in MMPR and "beta" blue was always the one no kid wanted to play. Even at the end they forced that with Yellows little brothers contesting for Blue. Jason was IMO mostly portrayed by his failings tbh lol, thats what I remember him for in the film. And yet he still led the team to victory which is a nice full circle meta opposite to the meritocratic situation that defined his character I guess. He wasn't a weak emotional wet rag - though he clearly had emotions while still being the top dog- striving to grind past his failings, and always looking forward. I really feel it was great to see all those acceptance things so rarely seen on the big screen, outside of the regular tropes.
***spoilers end***
Elizabeth Banks outstanding casting and top performance as modern Rita was epic. Very creepy and scary and up to date.
Goldar was my biggest disappointment tbh; that snarling blue face with red eyes and shaggy black hair was too much to let it slide lol.
Scratch that. My BIGGEST disappointment was the complete absence of power metal accompanying the hero moments!! [:disappointed:]
I'd give it an 8/10 - the extra 1 because of re-watchability. Again only for fans of the franchise though, and even then probably only for 90's kids lol. -

Posted on 15:02:28 - 11/04/17 (7 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkYeah that was one of my other complaints that I am sure that they were going to mess up, no power rangers music. I wanted them to get Arron Waters or Ron Wasserman or whatever he is going by nowadays.and have him write all new songs for it. That is disappointing.Last edited by DrZed on 15:03:31 - 11/04/17 (7 years ago)
