Thread created on 21:57:52 - 06/04/17 (8 years ago)|Last replied 08:53:26 - 09/04/17 (8 years ago)I dont like Anime. It never was my thing. I have gotten into it for a year, maybe two, but thats it. I started to realize that it honestly just wasnt that good, and I only ever watch it from time to time. While I cant see why people like Anime, I dont actually hate Anime. You can watch whatever you want, dont let me stop you.
However, I do feel like Anime is well, overrated. Im going to make a list of why I dont like Anime, because honestly, Im in the hospital, and I have nothing better to do.
RIP, my karma.
Repetitive Art Style
This is a more personal thing, so I wanted to get this on the list before I get into the meat of this trainwreck of a post. The Artstyle itself isnt too bad, but when Im finishing an episode of an Anime and want to watch another, well, its noticeable. I know what youre thinking.
So what youre saying is, Attack on Titan looks like Fairy Tail? Wow, youre dumb! Youre saying, with a smug face, knowing you just destroyed my entire article.
No.
Thats dumb. In no way do I think Animes look exactly the same. While some certainly do, most dont. Really, some Animes just look better than others, and thats it. Thats the most unique thing the artstyle has going for it. In short, it doesnt matter if one zombie show is better than another zombie show, because in the end, its still a damn zombie show.
Sub-par animation
I dont mind sub-par animation. As long as the motions are fluid enough, its okay for me. Ive never animated before, but sometimes, I just feel like the animators get lazy. For example, sometimes, when a character is talking, the only part of their body moving is their lips. They dont breathe or move their arms or anything. They just move their mouth. To me, it just feels lifeless.
But whats really bad is when theres a fight scene. Fight scenes should be smoothly animated, and well choreographed. Unfortunately, no one told the animators this. Instead, the fight scenes have a framerate slower than Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. I get it, Animating is hard, but just because something is hard doesnt mean you shouldnt give it a little more effort.
Thats what she said.
One-Sided/Undeveloped Characters
Sometimes, I feel like characters in Anime just arent developed enough for me to care about them. Take Loke, in Fairy Tail for example. Spoilers ahead, you dank heckers.
We find out that Loke is actually a celestial spirit and he did a crime (which, he didnt do anything remotely close to doing anything wrong), and since he couldnt return to the celestial world since his key-holder died, he was running out of power, and couldnt go back to the celestial world to recharge. Loke doesnt actually die, but if the people making the anime wanted to make me feel bad for him, they failed at every level.
Spoilers end here.
Then there are the one-sided characters. Im going to use Fairy Tail for an example again. All of them fall into certain tropes, except Natsu, whos the best character in the show, which isnt saying much because everyone else is a walking trope. Lucy is there for male gaze, Grey is the dark and edgy character, and like Natsu, Erza is actually alright. Shes serious, strong, and just plain awesome. Theres no way they can mess her up, right?
Fanservice
They did mess it up. God dammit.
Erza has the ability to change her ability and clothing. Fanservice seen coming from a mile away. Some of her outfits are just revealing, Im pretty sure I saw a damn bikini in there. And dont get me started on SAO, please dont, holy crap.
I love things that are hot. But when you force in tentacle groping, it just becomes very, VERY awkward. When I first got into Anime, I started with SAO. And there was so much tentacle groping, it almost turned me away completely from Anime as a whole. Overall, fanservice can be intrusive to storytelling, and most of the time, simply unneeded, and most of all, really awkward.
Community
Finally, Im going to finish off with a big point. It doesnt have much to do with Anime, but its a big problem. The community. Most of it is alright, but the loud minority ruins it. It can serve for some good laughs, once I strolled on over to an anime forum, said Malcolm in the Middle was the best anime, and that Lois was the best waifu, and watched the storm.
However, it can sometimes ruin things. Like this thread, I predict, but lucky for me, no one ever browses this topic, so Im probably good.
Other times, these weebs are just plain annoying. Simply saying anything bad about anime is enough to make them fall out of their seats. Theyll do anything to protect their waifus, despite the fact theyre not real (I have 12 of them, but still). I know its a minority, but theyre a loud minority. Loud enough to make 2nd on my worst fandoms of all time, trumped only by Furries.
In conclusion, anime isnt that bad. I dont like it, but if you like it, dont let this list stop you from watching it. This list is just me explaining why I think anime gets too much credit for what it is. This has been GamerJed, and RIP my karma! -

Posted on 03:23:05 - 07/04/17 (8 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI'll give reasons why anime is awesome, just my opinion.
1. All animation looks the same/ varying degree of quaility
It makes it easy for me to slide right from obe anime to the next
2. Sub par animation
All characters when they are talking only move mouths, no other body parts, like brwathing or hand jestures. Means when I'm reading sub titles theres little to distract me action wise.
3. One sided/under developed characters
No interpretation needed when judging a character, you know whats coming when you see dem dark moody emo characters, or bright eyed innocents. You know there's a battle brewing, inter group conflict or extra group conflicts.
4. Fan service
Because why not...shits great, no imagination needed, the animators lay it all on the table
5. The community
Ppl who like anime that I have met aren't "normal" they have their personality quirks and "defects" hell half can't hide their anti social selves, or their love for certain characters. And cosplay, weather guy or girl cosplay is pretty awesome. I would never have balls to walk around as Trunks or Cloud taking pics with folk but I may take a pic with them
6.conclusion
Idc what your opinion is really...I love me some anime and wont force ya to read my lil parody post

Posted on 05:13:08 - 07/04/17 (8 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI've never really cared for anime either, but there are some good ones out there. IMO, most are garbage though, and I've unfortunately been exposed to a lot of them (my brother loves anime). I tend to enjoy sadistic, blood-sport-y anime.
Anime I've actually enjoyed:
- Death Note
- Deadman Wonderland
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Elfen Lied
- eh... there may have been othersLast edited by MadHatter on 05:13:49 - 07/04/17 (8 years ago) -

Posted on 06:42:11 - 07/04/17 (8 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI actually don't like anime much myself tbh. for me though the reason is the story in most just suck real bad imo. I have friends who love it, I just cant agree with that opinion.
the first one I watched was the original Ninja Scroll and I thought it was well written. sure it was over the top but from my experience that's the point of anime. however I thought the characters were done well and the story had a nice flow to it. since then though most anime has just disappointed me. I thought they would get better and they didn't. even the ninja scroll series that followed was bad imo.
now I haven't watched any anime that has been released recently and perhaps ive missed some good ones along the way. I simply don't have the motivation to sift through the shit in hopes to find those.Vin Jay - The Youngest Prophet

Posted on 10:44:20 - 08/04/17 (8 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkOne massively overrated show (AoT), one decent anime (Trigun) IMO and a lot of generic stuff.
The truth is that most anime is generic garbage, kinda like pop music, there's a formula and it works, it's not gonna change as long as it continues to be profitable.
However, there is some great anime but you will have to dig deep and trust other's opinions about it if you want to find one that you might like and not waste time.
Given your anime list... all your points fit perfectly according to what you have watched. I respect your rant but it's just that. -

Most Anime is made for mass consumption for a profit hence it tends to be generic without real depth, just a lot of spectacle for entertainment purposes.
However, you generalize anime as something it is not, which is simply wrong, no other traditional animation in the world holds a candle to the best that anime has to offer, just take some movies from one studio, Ghibli, Princess Mononoke, Whisper of the Heart, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya to name a few and people that have seen them will probably say something like "ok, this guy ain't that crazy, some of those are good", which is something you will never know as per your generalization.
To be honest I don't know why I bothered myself to reply to you, I conceded that most anime (specially tv shows) is bad and yet you reply to me like seeking validation that ALL anime is bad, I am not interested in changing your mind, I am gonna finish by telling you that never 100% of something is black OR white.
Is Anime great?? yes it is; is most Anime generic garbage?? yes it is -
