Well... masterpieces in theatrical form. Creative.
And masterpieces is objective. It's like calling someone beautiful. It's an opinion.

I was just wondering though, what movie is better?
Kingsman: The Secret Service, a love letter to spy genres with a whole lot of humor, style and butt sex or Mad Max: Fury Road, an artistic depiction of a post-apocalyptic Fast and Furious movie?- Kingsman or Mad Max?

easy win for kingsman imo because mad max was utterly pathetic , any of the older mad max films is way better than this last one -

A masterpiece for me is something that really hits you, like Lord of War or Beyond Borders. Although I may be biassed about any movie starring Angelina Jolie.
Still, both Mad Max and Kingsman are fun to watch.Last edited by 1958872 on 12:14:09 - 12/11/15 (9 years ago) -

Masterpieces? Certainly not. Entertaining and worth the time investment? Certainly.Last edited by MadHatter on 17:57:01 - 12/11/15 (9 years ago) -

imo it depends on the criteria used and how high you set the bar ... if you set the bar really low then nearly anything can be a masterpiece
using mad max as an example ... while the action scenes are very good, the plot is so tiny it could fit on a napkin and the acting is, at the best of times, average -

Posted on 17:46:56 - 16/11/15 (9 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkWhile I agree that it is ultimately subjective, coming down to personal opinion, I feel like "masterpiece" carries certain colloquial connotations. There are many classic films that are widely, almost universally, considered "masterpieces", and to call something a masterpiece is to put it amongst, thus comparing it against, those films. In that context, I don't believe many people would consider either Kingsman or Mad Max to be a "masterpiece".
But, again, it is subjective, and your opinion is as valid as mine or anyone else's. The is no true objective evaluation of art, and everyone has their own unique, varied taste. What one finds to be aesthetically pleasing, emotionally investing or thought provoking comes down to them and their own life experiences, which no-one could ever fully comprehend.Last edited by MadHatter on 17:47:52 - 16/11/15 (9 years ago) -

I'm still hanged up with that church scene."Their is nothing noble to being superior to your fellow man; True nobility is being superior to your former self."

That scene where Eggsy and Gazelle jumped and tried slicing each other. That was the only scene that I hated in the movie. The background and slow motion feels off."Their is nothing noble to being superior to your fellow man; True nobility is being superior to your former self."

Posted on 15:07:11 - 18/11/15 (9 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linklol, sorry. English isn't my first language. Haha.
My criteria when it comes to movies are mostly about visual. Although it would be nice to quote a character every once and a while. Fast-paced movies are my jam and the only movies I like that's kind of a slow burner are Blast from the Past, Brother's Bloom and V for Vendetta, and the latter isn't even that slow paced.
It's personal taste I guess."Their is nothing noble to being superior to your fellow man; True nobility is being superior to your former self."

But the problem is if the only thing a film has is cgi, it isn't worth it for me, I know kingsman didn't have the greatest cgi, I mean, heads popping off, really? xD But the acting was a billion times better imho.. -

Mad Max's only cgi is the sandstorm and the place where it's all sticky but other than that, they're really in a desert with real stunt mans going around and around like headless chicken.
When it comes to acting, I agree. Max there was as interesting as a brick wall. I find myself more attach to the Kingsman characters, like Harry for example... ok, forget Eggsy, Harry Hart is the bomb of that movie. :)
Who's your favorite Kingsman characters? I like Gazelle and the first Galahad. You?"Their is nothing noble to being superior to your fellow man; True nobility is being superior to your former self."

anyway yeah Harry Hart is by far the best actor in that film, and to be honest, samuel l. jackson also did a fantastic job, very different to his usual roles xD Eggsy was also good, but it was a little less good then the others. -

Posted on 01:33:24 - 22/11/15 (9 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkFun Facts:
Colin Flirth aka Harry Hart I believe is never one for action movies so this movie really popped his action movie cherry. :)
Samuel Jackson use to have a lisp when he was young.
Eggsy (Taron I-can-never-remember-his-last-name-to-be-honest) is new to acting big production movies so yeah, expect him and his character to be average. Kudos to his accent though. If you heard him talk in interviews he sounds more of a mix of American and British.
Anyway, I heard they're going to have a sequel.
The director wants Colin Flirth to be in it again. I don't know how will they do that but he jokingly said once that Harry might have an evil twin. Here's hoping it really is but I think they'll just go with the "It's an action movie. You should have checked the body before thinking it's really dead. Double tap, man" direction.
lol I could just imagine Eggsy's face once Harry suddenly comes back to dead (hopefully, Mr. Flirth agrees to do Kingsman 2).
It's either water works or he'll punch Hart a new one.
What do you think?"Their is nothing noble to being superior to your fellow man; True nobility is being superior to your former self."

SO for me that's an easy win for kingsman.hmmm bit Cliché, maybe a prequel more about the dad of eggsy? But anyhow there's real potential in that film if Colin Flirth is in there (couldn't remember his name exactly).
Damn the first thing I did seeing that film was if there'd be a sequel haha XD although sometimes good films don't need sequels though, because there's always the risk of ruining the series with it isn't there :c (for example braveheart's sequels, with the 3d one not being to bad actually) -

For example: Spiderman Trilogy (the first one), the Jurassic Park movies, etc.
I have a large faith in the director though. Kickass 2 was good as the first film so hopefully he does the same with Kingsman."Their is nothing noble to being superior to your fellow man; True nobility is being superior to your former self."
