MRS. BUCKET: Charlie . . . there are a hundred billion
people in this world, and only five of them will find Golden Tickets. Even if you had a sackful of money you probably wouldn't find one. And after this contest is over, you'll be no different from the billions of others who didn't find one.

CHARLIE: But I am different. I want it more than any of them.

VERUCA: It's about time too! I want it!VERUCA: I WANT A BEAN FEAST

Conflicting morals in Willy Wonka? Why is it okay that Charlie wants it more than anyone else, therefore he wins? Why is that okay to teach? It's not who wants it who gets it.

    Discuss! :D

I think it was more along the lines of sometimes all you gotta do is believe but that is just my opinion. How about talking about how big of a jerk Charlies Grandpa Joe is. Here is proof. Grandpa Joe has been "bedridden" for 20 years, laying in the same bed as his Wife and other in laws. Doesn't even help clean around the house even a little bit let alone anything else and lets his overworked Daughter and Charlie to work for pennies a day while taking care of him and the others in bed. Charlie finds a golden ticket and only then does he get out of bed but he starts to sing and dance around the shack. He convinces Charlie to steal fizzy lifting drinks, almost gets him killed in the process and doesn't even feel bad about it afterwards. At the end of the movie Grandpa Joe says to Wonka how about the lifetime supply of chocolate and he tells him no cause they stole fizzy lifting drinks so they forfeit it. Grandpa Joe gets nasty says he will get back at Wonka and says to Charlie they will sell the everlasting gobstopper to Mr. Slugworth before Charlie gave it back to Wonka. Grandpa Joe is a pervert too in the beginning of the tour when they are stuck in the tiny room he grabs Mrs Teevee's butt cause she says someone grabbed my butt and looked at Grandpa Joe.

Wow, yeah you're right Grandpa Joe is a total buttwipe. I don't want to think of him that way because he's Charlie's best friend, but obviously from an objective standpoint, Grandpa Joe is a total jerkoff. Agreed.

well, if you want some serious thoughts...

I think Charlie was just saying things, caught up in dreams of getting a ticket. Plus, he didn't get the ticket when he said that; he got it after he bought a candy bar for his grandpa, thinking there were no tickets left.

And just getting the ticket wasn't enough to win, only to see the factory. He won in the end because he was honest and not a jerk wad.

    anyways...
I think the REAL question is... what's so bad about chewing gum?
