I suggest a BBC (Scotland) comedy series called Still Game. It's about a bunch of old guys living on a run-down estate in Scotland named Craiglang. You can view it on Youtube but here's a compilation of some of the best bits:

Almost forgot: now that Scotland is undeniably British, that means we can include Limmy's Show in there.

belong in the "must watch" category ;)
    Allo Allo was hilarious.

I love Peep Show. I always sympathized with Mark. Someone already mentioned it, but I really enjoyed the Inbetweeners. I only have seen a few episodes but it was pretty funny.

Anyone know if these are on Netflix? I gotta queue them up.

Snuff Box. It may have only lasted six episodes, but it was golden.

The 3 seasons of The Inbetweeners are on Netflix along with both movies.

Fawlty Towers, that would have to be one of the best comedy series ever made.

I really liked Come Fly with Me, although apparently it wasn't a great success.

I used to watch This Life it was quite good. A certain somebody from the Walking Dead was in it.

I love Mrs Brown's Boys (Irish but funny as hell), and most of the other great British tv shows have already been mentioned. I'd recommend watching some British panel shows if you haven't already; things like Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Would I Lie to You, Big Fat Quiz of the Year, QI and Have I Got News For You are all amazingly funny

Anything by Chris Morris. Start with Jam. (The radio spin-off 'Blue Jam' is even better).

i agree with Fawlty Towers, shame theres only 12 episodes.

Blackadder is good, Rowan Atkinson in a very non mr.bean role. also has hugh laurie and stephen fry.

Red Dwarf i remember being good

also i dont quite understand why i liked these shows, but keeping up appearances and yes, minister. but neither of those fit what your looking for i think.

So good together! It's amazing. I love the sketch where Queen Victoria comes to the US and says the linden trees smell like cum. I. Died.
Just rewatched that scene after a few years of first seeing it and it's still amazing.

    Definitely Green Wing!

The notorious Sue White & the Men's urinal scene, didn't even make it into the show. (2:58)

But I shot a man in Torn, just to watch him die.
