Is there a movie that was really popular (especially within your circle of friends/colleagues) BUT that you actually didn't think was very good at all, or just didn't "work" for you? Maybe give a reason - and were your friends accepting of your disinterest? :)

One of mine is Titanic - this one didn't work for me - a good love story but it could have been on ANY doomed transport or disaster :) And (spoiler alert) I really thought they both could have got on that wreckage at the end :)

I have to agree with Titanic.

I might be biased though because when it came out, I had to study for some important exam and everyone in my family was watching it...

Its funny that you mention titanic what a truly awful film that was i didnt like avatar either and i like sci fi i will watch any sci fi B movie on the sci fi channel and will enjoy it.

Strangely James Cameron has directed 2 of the best sci fi films ever ie aliens and the abyss. But they are more than cancelled out by titanic and avatar.

Forum signatures make my eyes hurt so i have turned them off.

I thought Avatar (blue peeps) was pretty good.

I don't like Dark Knight for some reason.

At the risk of being shot out of a cannon into the sun by those who love it, the movie Pulp Fiction didn't inspire me like almost everyone else in the world. Thoughts?

For me I never understood why the twilight series was so hyped, the first one was painfully dull to watch as I suspected it would be.

    As for the Titanic comment:

Yes, Pulp Fiction for me too. It's the movie whose title sprang to mind when I saw the subject of this thread.

I did not like titanic either. they did all of this attention to set building and everything but then instead of focusing on the actual event, they stick in a stupid love story. I did not want to watch it, but this teacher that I think had a crush on me made me watch it. There were some really bad cgi rats that just threw all believability out the window. I do not think it was deserving of 11 Oscars. Plus that Celine Dion song should have never won an Oscar. Some of those yes. Like set design, it better not have got it for editing because there were so many continuity flubs in there.

That stupid Little Miss Sunshine movie. A lot of people seem to like it. It was so stupid and predictable, and did not make much sense. It was like oh let us take a stupid Griswald Vacation type thing and try to make it edgy that sure seems like what the writers were aiming for. where edgy I have no idea what they are meaning by that. But it was stupid and it was oh we need to stick this in here so this can happen. Like oh lets just grab these eye test pamphlets out of nowhere so we can find something out that a kid at that age would probably have already known. at 16 17 however old the older kid was you think you could have realized if the kid was colourblind.

There are plenty of things most people like that I do not. Although most of teh time I try to avoid things I know I am not going to like.

Although there are some movies I liked that most people seemed not to like. Like the Speed Racer movie, and the First Silent Hill movie I thought that captured the whole feel of the games which is something they could have messed up completely, or just not got right.

Splat and DrZed, I'm with you on those! Also, the Harry Potter movies didn't capture me like they did most. Maybe because I think many of the concepts I had seen in movies previously, which other audiences may not have....h

And this one has seen some of my friends want to shun me...Fight Club. I didn't think it was terrible, just not as good as people appear to think (again, the ideas didn't seem particularly new).

the Harry Potter movies were done terrible they did not follow the books enough especially the last one let's throw in a car chase with a snake. That part did not happen in the book, and there were some really neat visual scenes that they could have done that were in the book in the last movie but they just did not do it right and a lot of stuff was put it wrong and it did not capture the feel of the world in the books.

It is nothing compared to the book, read that instead, but it is not a bad movie... []

    The Shawshank Redemption

As good as the movie is, because it is a great movie, I simply don't understand why it is so well regarded, the story does nothing for me. I can see and understand all the merits that people come forth with in favor of the movie but in the end is just a meh story with great everything else.
