Items like jewelery, clothing etc can't be exchanged for points etc. So, are they just accumulating in the game and the dump. Is there any other way the circulation of an item decreases apart from selling them back to Bits n bobs?

Some people collect them in a highly intrepid manner!

Forum signatures make my eyes hurt so i have turned them off.

but what i see from this is that since these things just keep on accumulating, wouldn't their prices keep on falling? shouldn't there be a way to purge items from the game

If they remained on the market, yes they would drop in value.
If they're purchased or given purpose (dump, collections, ect) they will remain a constant price.

Lots of players go inactive. Most players are inactive.

Items held by inactive players are "sorta" removed from the game. They are removed from the economy unless the player returns. I would assume that the percentage of "inactive held items" is constantly climbing.

Also, there is a lot of stuff with very low prices. Supply/demand seems to work just fine. When prices get low enough, then bulk purchases for the purpose of throwing in the dump (for the 5000 trashed items merit) look more attractive and more people will pursue it.

I assume that the dump merit creates a floor for prices.

I don't really know this but suspect that the dump has a mechanism to dispose of items in excess of a certain amount. Or maybe the dump holds infinite items. It does seem that a high value item dumped today will likely be found today. Maybe the dump deletes excess low value items.

    You can sell them.
This - simplest way to dispose of them is to sell them to a store in town.
