That's a bit stupid in my opinion (no hate, more power to you if you like it). So you can donate to charity via torn and it doesn't get you anything in terms of game benefit. Wouldn't it be better to encourage players to buy donator packs so that we can hire more staff and get crimes 2.0 earlier / better servers faster?

    Just my 2 cents.

Intention or not it's exactly what you achieved through your misinformation...

If you don't want to use such a system then don't use it. If you want to donate money to Torn to get benefits then you're always better off doing regular donator packs. The purpose of the charity centre would never be a "pay to win" system, as it would be largely cosmetic with some minor perks, that would no doubt be not quite as good as buying donator packs, but unique enough where there's some people who would be interested.

This whole system is about Torn working alongside it's community to benefit the world as a whole, and provide an incentive for people to donate for charitable causes.

The whole argument of "but I could claim this myself!!!" is a bit ridiculous in my view as if that's the case then go ahead and do that directly to the charity then? That's great! Win win! You get what you want and the charity, which is what we want to benefit here, rather than Torn in any way, gets support!

But were you ever going to do that? Probably not... The whole point here is about giving some way where people would donate to charity and get something they might want in place of that, utilising the community as a whole to really make a larger difference for society.

We have a great community here in Torn, and want what we've done here to help make the world better.
    I like the idea.
Titles, different color names, and so on still have "some minor perks" mentioned there can be a kinda op like a book voucher (especially if you could get more than one) anyway savages made a mistake by telling this
Torn will provide a range of in-game rewards which increase in usefulness and prestige the more you donate

that kinda sounded like making torn p2w. I think if it would be described like Ched said

All rewards would be cosmetic, or provide a very slight / minor advantage which is very limited.
it would be much less resistance

a select group of charities chosen by us

SV's thread got locked quick so I guess we'll have to wait a week for more details on this?

I like Juggernaut's idea of the community periodically voting on a selection, from a given list ofc.

    Isn’t this basically fundraising?

Like… someone doing a parachute jump for charity… you could argue that instead of doing the jump they should just donate to charity.

As human beings we are innately selfish and unless there is ‘something in it for us’, whether that be watching someone do something dangerous/funny or meaningless pixels in a game, it encourages people to give money to worthwhile causes.

Ched has said he wanted to do this for a number of years, and we have seen Ched put his money where his mouth is on a number of occasions in support of charities close to the player base.

    Edit:

If you have no clue about what you are reading, either stay silent or go inform yourself. Op did neither and spent disinformation instead, so i'm Sugarvalves on this one also.

    As for the donations itself;

    1) Make sure there is something for animals. I don't like people, and i'm not alone.
    2) Make sure none of the rewards give you an actual advantage ingame, otherwise you are subverting a thing that should be charity. Go wild on cosmetics, titles, name colors and what not, but avoid involving duke and books for example.

    Raelyn [2636726]

But for the majority of players in the U.S. at least, that's not true. You didn't reply on the other thread, but only people who itemize their deductions can claim donations.

    To make it simple:

If I donate on Torn, I can get a fun reward.
If I donate directly, I get nothing tax-wise.

Again, this applies to most people (in the US), as over 85% use standardized deductions.

I can appreciate that you're trying to help people but your information is not correct -> ("still dislike the idea since people can get tax relief if they donate directly")
This is correct. Unless you donate a lot and itemize you're not gaining any benefits for donations. That's most people, myself included, not sure why it's being downvoted. Once I started making donations I very quickly realized that it had 0 impact on my taxes unless I donated so much that it certainly wouldn't be worth it anyway (from a personal financial standpoint). Tax deductions on donations are for rich people lol. Just donate to do good, or benefits in Tron.
