Looks like one of those games where the pitcher got in trouble and they didn’t pull him quickly enough :/

I saw there were one or more HR with people on base and then just regular hits driving in runs.

TOR is capable of the same craziness.

However,  being in that “mode” or “groove” takes a weird mix of calm and excitement that is really hard to maintain when you get put into a deficit.

Too excited and you lose yer focus and strike out even more.  Too calm and even nice swings just don’t have the power and turn into easy outs.

...and that was just playing in recreational and school leagues.  Imagine if your 6, 7, or even 8 figure contract hangs in the balance of you having a certain OBP, ERA, etc...

Plus, I’m also beginning to think that the teams that are no longer in the running for playoff spots may not be as 100% motivated as the teams that are still in the running.

It’s hard to make any $ by taking risks when yer stable/easier picks go to crap :|

Man, today was way too busy to mess with all the pick crap.  I kinda did want to research and see if there was anything to some teams being hungrier...  I got nothing... ARI and COL are in MUST WIN situations and flopped.  NYY... is sorta comfy, but they're inconsistent NYY so, whatever.

Here's some picks without looking at a dang thing.  I don't expect anyone would want to follow them, but MLB is proving that they're all pretty much coin flips anyway! xD Lots of chalk... I'll at least highlight those in green...

    Away Wildcard/Div Home Wildcard/DivHome Pitcher
    White Sox WC -26.5 Yankees WC 4.5 DIV -6.5 Shields (5-15) Lynn (8-9) CHW 6, NYY 2
Blue Jays WC -18.5 Orioles WC -41 Pannone (1-0) Rogers (0-0) TOR 0, BAL 7
    Nationals WC -7 Phillies WC -2.5 Scherzer (16-6) Nola (15-3) WAS 5, PHI 3
Marlins WC -20 Red Sox DIV 6.5 Urena (4-12) Johnson (4-3) zzz
Brewers WC 0.0 Reds WC -16.5 Guerra (6-8) DeSclafani (6-4) zzz
Twins WC -17 Indians DIV 13 Gibson (7-10) Carrasco (15-7) zzz
Rays WC -8.5 Braves DIV 3.5 Stanek (2-3) Teheran (9-7) zzz

    D-backs DIV 1.0 Giants WC -7.5 Buchholz (7-2) Bumgarner (5-5) ARI 0, SF 2

ROFL... if you had told me even as recently as yesterday that SFG would be favorite over ARI... OR... that KCR would be favorite over ANYONE... I'd have said you must be crazy!

White Sox - Ok, fine, I'll quit spite betting against NYY :|
Blue Jays - Apparently Orioles > Blue Jays???
Phillies - Two games now they've come VERY close vs WSH.  Maybe the Nats finally got motivated to push for WC?
Red Sox - Good to see them back in form... bad to see the low multis :/
Brewers - Reds = MLB cockroach.  Sports caster: "Reds are one of those teams you don't wanna face in a must win game"
    Indians - yay
    Braves - yay
    Dodgers - yay
Mets (delayed, tied @ 1-1) Cubs win with a walk-off HR. Sigh.
    Athletics - HECK YEAH!
    Royals - ROFL... Go Royals!
    Cardinals - woot
Rockies - They TRIED to screw this one up.
Mariners - Padres = another cockroach team that is never an easy win.
D-backs - Man... I'm happy for the Giants, but it's tough to find anything to steer off of with these coin flip games :|

Ok, time for some geek talk... found a pretty nifty site here that gives stats that aren't listed on mlb.com or espn.com:

    https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB-standings.shtml

Finding a lot of neat tidbits to help with picks such as who's on a hot streak (which I already check, but I was doing it manually via game history logs, and I wasn't looking at EVERYONE's streaks...

Here are the teams ranked by last 30 games... These are the teams sportscasters refer to as having a lot of enegry or a lot of momentum.  Winning quite often leads to more winning, etc...

Another stat I find interesting is "Luck" they look at a teams runs for and runs against and calculate what their record should be off of those raw numbers.  The "Luck" stat takes their actual wins minus what the calculations say they SHOULD have won:

Not surprised AT ALL to see Seattle up there!  They've punched some pretty good teams in the mouth but with their average runs for/against numbers... they should be a sub .500 team.  I am a little surprised to see COL up there.  Interesting stuff.

Last thing (for this thread anyway) that I find interesting is their SRS stat that combines run_diff (runs scored - runs allowed) and combines it with Strength Of Schedule (SOS) which how much better or worse (in runs per game) than average the teams they've played are.

Not too surprised to see many of the same hot/streaking teams.  I was a little surprised to see BOS is locked in a 4 way tie for the 2nd lowest SOS (FYI... CLE has the lowest SOS), whereas COL is in a 3 way tie for the 2nd highest SOS (MIA AND SDP are tied for toughest SOS).

I know, this is probably wayyyy do deep for most betters, but I'm looking for any freaking thing that can help with these crazy tight matchups and calls... and mayyybe lead to more juicyness like SEA vs HOU :D

Oh yeah... for todays early picks (as always * = risk)

Away Home Away Probable Home Probable Comments
Mets Cubs ?? ?? Oh, lol, this one is the delay from last nights thunderstorms in Chi-Town... I picked METS for this yesterday.
** Athletics Astros Cahill (5-3) Keuchel (10-10) big surprise... juicy multi, OAK is 20-10, HOU is .500 in their last 30... IE very beatable.   Yes, this game is risky.  Both teams are capable of solid offense both are starting good pitchers. GO MONEYBALL!!
Tigers Royals Fulmer (3-9) Duffy (7-11) Crap vs crap... KCR seems to less shite at the moment.  DET snagged wins vs CHW, CHC, and MIN... whereas KCR took TWO wins from super hot CLE.
Mets Cubs Vargas (4-8) Mills (0-0) So... wonder if the 80% will apply to non scheduled double headers? xD  Multis are currently 2.74 vs 1.52... it is tempting to chase NYM, but it looks like they just dont have what it takes to stop the Cubs (especially with a 6.96 ERA pitcher! xD)

and the latest installment of "Gunz Pretends To Be MLB Nostradamus"

Away Home Away Probable Home Probable Notes
    * Mariners Padres Ramirez (1-2) Lucchesi (6-7) Gotta stick with the better (or at least the LUCKIER) team here.  Yesterdays loss at least bumped up the Mariners odds today. xD  I have to call this one risky cause the Mariners have been playing .500 ball lately
Marlins Red Sox (not really worth betting @ 1.23) Richards (3-7) Price (14-6) Sigh... I don't wanna bet BOS @ 1.3 (crap! 1.23 now!).  Plus... MIA won series w/WSH 2-1, split w/NYY 1-1, & won vs ATL 2-1.  They played BOS HARD yesterday losing 7-8.  However... they're starting a "meh" pitcher today so I doubt they'll pull off the miracle in Beantown today either.  If you like taking risks... this is yer shot at a 3.6 multi on a team that's beaten other top tier teams recently.
White Sox Yankees Lopez (4-9) Sabathia (7-4) Just you watch, I quit spite betting NYY and they'll go tits up today :| NYY seems to be back in form after whatever the hell happened in Miami xD
    * Blue Jays Orioles Borucki (3-3) Cobb (4-15) I don't even know!  TOR was playing "better than average" ball with moments of "wow" (Snagging games from SEA, and BOS) and SWEPT BAL last series (5-3, 8-2, and 6-0). So, WTF?  Win five in a row, drop one to PHI, and all of a sudden you can't take a team you OWNED last series ?!?! Sticking with the Jays but I consider it risky. :|
    * Nationals Phillies Gonzalez (7-11) Arrieta (9-9)

PHI luck: 4 WSH luck: -7 (meaning PHI has won 4 more than they should have and WSH has lost 7 they should have won. PHI's streak #s: 2-8 7-13 12-18, WSH: 5-5 9-11 15-15.  I'm REALLY on the fence with this one.  Historically, the series between these two have been WPW, PPW, PWPP, and WWP.  PHI is chasing ATL, but WSH is not far behind PHI so... I can't believe I'm picking WSH period, let alone as a dog xD  Y'all may wanna skip this one though.  Nothing safe about it.

Brewers Reds Peralta (6-4) Harvey (6-7) Expert is value picking CIN, computer and public like MIL. Their series this year: MCC,  MMM, MMCC, MCM, and C_ _.  Luck (4 vs -1) and SRS (.2 vs -.4) favor MIL. Streaks... MIL: 5-5 9-11 15-15 and CIN 4-6 8-12 12-18.  I'm going MIL because every damned number I can find favors MIL! :|
Twins Indians Stewart (0-1) Plutko (4-4) CLE... blah blah blah... lots of numbers (everything favors CLE except LCK (0 vs -4)... at least it's a 1.5 multi :P
Rays Braves Castillo (3-2) Newcomb (11-6) expert, computer, and consensus say ATL. SRS = ATL (.7 vs .2) LCK = TBR (0 vs -2), streaks favor TBR recently, but ATL over past 30.  ATL is 4.5 games ahead of PHI in it's division and TBR is 20.5 games behind in it's div and 9.5 games out of a wildcard spot.  I do love me some Newcomb too.
Dodgers Rangers Wood (7-6) Minor (10-6) Most stuff favors LAD, comp, cons, and expert (read his blurb here it's a lil funny).  Luck... LAD stinks less (-2 vs -8). Long streaks = similar, short term LAD 6-4 (4 game W streak), TEX 4-6. Series this year: LL, L_ Also, LAD is 1 game behind in NL west and 1.5 behind a WC spot. TEX = shit outta luck (20+).
Pirates Cardinals Williams (10-9) Mikolas (13-3) every stat has STL > PIT. comp, cons, + exp = STL.  Their series this year: PPP, PSS, SPSS, PSS, and S_ _. Not looking so great for the scallywags... ARRR!!!
D-backs Giants Godley (13-7) Rodriguez (6-1) This freaking matchup I swear!  SRS favors ARI, LCK favors SFG (no shit it does! lol!) their streaks are dead even. Series this year: ASA, ASA, SAS, SSS, SAAS, SS_. Comp = ARI (just like last 2 games), cons = SF/U7.5, expert expects ARI to continue its offensive woes.  Considering they're facing a 2.3 ERA 6-1 pitcher tonight... it's looking a bit bleak for the legless lizards :P

Still working this grid... just posting to save progress and before the Mariners/Padres game closes out.

In case you couldn't tell... the chaos that is MLB pretty much ruined my stash of play money and completely soured my interest in keeping this going.  I relate it to my prior job forecasting weather for the US Air Force... sure there were days where you could utilize all your tools and still be off on your forecast.  This recent trend in MLB is more akin to me forecasting clear sunny skies, with a high of 90F (32C) and instead the blizzard of the century (The PERFECT Storm, lol) rolls through.

I didn't even bet yesterday.  I was also stuck in email hell, so it was easy to not even LOOK at anything MLB related.  For anyone curious, here are yesterdays games/scores: favorite is light green highlight, winning team in bold green

Thursday August 30, 2018All Times Eastern.

    Away

Home Result Winning Pitcher Losing Pitcher
Brewers Reds MIL 2, CIN 1 Soria (1-3) Brice (2-3)
Twins Indians MIN 3, CLE 5 Clevinger (10-7) Odorizzi (5-9)
Tigers Yankees NYY 7, DET 8 Wilson (2-4) Betances (4-4)
Pirates Cardinals STL 5, PIT 0 Gant (6-5) Musgrove (5-8)
Cubs Braves CHC 5, ATL 4 Kintzler (2-3) Foltynewicz (10-9)
Red Sox White Sox CWS 4, BOS 9 Brasier (1-0) Vieira (1-1)
Angels Astros LAA 5, HOU 2 Heaney (8-8) Verlander (13-9)
Mariners Athletics SEA 7, OAK 1 LeBlanc (8-3) Montas (5-4)
    D-backs Dodgers LAD 1, ARI 3 Ray (4-2) Hill (6-5)
Rockies Padres SD 3, COL 2 Stock (1-1) Shaw (4-6)

Yes, that's correct... only TWO favs actually won

So, in honor of this current "wtf" trend in MLB, today's picks I didn't read a damned thing.  I picked all underdogs and lets see how that pans out.  Favorite and gunz "pick"

    Away Home
    Tigers Yankees
    Cubs Phillies
    Brewers Nationals
    Rays Indians
    Blue Jays Marlins
    Pirates Braves
    Twins Rangers
    Red Sox White Sox
    Angels Astros
    Orioles Royals
    Reds Cardinals
    Mariners Athletics
    D-backs Dodgers
    Rockies Padres
    Mets Giants

Let's "Brewster's Millions" this shit! (for those that haven't seen the movie... trailer, clip 1 and clip 2 and clip 3)

Thanks guys... I kinda lost interest in the chaos of MLB, and life's been WAY busy.  NFL is looking a bit crazy so far... Fish doing well... Pats doing not so well... crazy stuff

Make an NBA system for this season, alternative handicaps have good handicaps in them.

Those under 23 games more often than not have atleast 3 goals in them.
